Hey,

I was looking around on eBay, and it seems the price of these things has risen quite a bit over the last few months. I'm sure that someone manufacturers them for a price that is less than the $6.00 that people charge at the low end. Does anyone know where I can get these cheaply? I'm interested in 20-30 of them.

Thanks!

Talk to Omnedon . He's got a source, I think.

But be sure to check the thread about them. It seems that a lot of them are faulty and don't help much. :o

Talk to Sylentwulf (sp?) too, he has a source. I am too lazy to look through his posts to find the name of the company. I think it's MCM or something like that... I'll check.

* edit

I was right! Hell maybe my memory isn't that bad after all. :D

They probably give a bulk discount.

Based on my experience, it took 2 before I got 1 that worked.

I bought one new from a seller and it didn't work and it took a barrage of e-mails to get them to accept it back and I still had to pay $2.50 for them to send me another one. Thank heavens it seems to work!

In the above thread, omnedon says he has found a 1 in 4 fail rate with new connectors.

If you're buying them to sell, it might not be worth the hassle!

Personally I buy them in bulk from MCM Electronics and I refurbish units. I have found an occasional connector that seems to be defaulty probalby 1 in 10 or 1 in 15. I Can tell you all some things I do to ensure a better and more reliable connection.

* When I remove the old connector from the board, I clean the area on the board that the connector connects too. You would be surprised that part is as dirty as some old game carts. It usually needs a real good cleaning on the top and bottom. Be sure to blow out all the dust from inside the machine first.

* I can't stress this one enough is to clean your games. These games are all 15 + years old. 15 years of dirt, dust and grime are all over the connectors.

Thats it short and sweet. I have refurbished many a systems that way.

I do at least 5 NES systems every week.

I will buy no new connectors for my use, and will only order them as per a customer request. The fail rate testing them with just random carts was about 1 in 20 for me. The fail rate testing with my NTF2 diagnostic cart was 1 in 4. :eek 2: (I've been told to just not test with the NTF2 LOL - how picky do you want your repair guy to be? LOL )

It DOUBLES the time it takes me to do each NES to refurb the pin, as opposed to replacing it. However, at the price per pin, with duty and ship, I have to do 2 NES's to break even, with all the failed pins I was getting. Breaking even was not the plan...

YMMV.
Good Luck!
