I really love japanese games.
Mostly SFC(just snipered "Cho Aniki" at ebay :embarrassed: ) and gamecube ones.
I wonder if the japanese collectors are also hunting for U.S/euro only stuff/games? Are there even any or are they satisfied with their (in many ways much better) videogames-stuff?
Are they the same way jealous of us/euro only games like we(most of us) are of japanese only games, box art,L.E.s etc etc....?
I can't believe that since they are not missing much. :D

er, you'd be surprised at the collecting mania some folks in japan have, especially those with the cash and ability to travel overseas. i worked in a game shop for 3 yrs., and we had our share of japanese collectors come in and drop a fortune on atari, colecovision, vectrex, game & watches, nes stuff, and some genesis/snes games.
also, japanese gamers here will sometimes pick up a u.s. ps2 or other console in order to be able to play u.s. games before they come to japan! i remember selling a new ps2 and a couple of us developed games (jak & daxter, drakan, twisted metal black and a few others) to a couple looking for some "imports" to take back with them...
the funny thing about ebay is a lot of game shops in japan are making a mint off loads of us gamers on stuff that sells for pennies there (well, a few yen, lol). i'm sure some of our forum member who live in japan can back this up big time... :D

There seem to be a few Japanese collectors of Sega Master System stuff. Of course, they only got 85 games in Japan, which makes the US's 114 look great, and Europe/Brazil's 350+ look awesome to them.

I would imagine there are probably. For example there are several games for Nes that were decent that never got released in Japan. Snake's Revenge, Lone Ranger, Startropics 1 & 2, GI Joe, Legendary Wings, and Strider. (Strider actually was planned for release in Japan, so I imagine that is a popular import for Famicom collectors in Japan.)
There were also a lot of SMS games that never saw the light of day in Japan. I don't think Golden Axe Warrior was ever released there, nor was Power Strike 2. I'm not entirely sure about that though, maybe Raccoon Lad or someone could answer.

I sold a PAL Megadrive copy of the Second Samurai to a Japanese collector a while back. Ebayed it, and it went for a lot more than I was expecting. Did a double take when I saw where I was sending it!
Worked out very well, because I also exchanged my mint copy of Steel Empire for the Japanese Megadrive with him for a mint copy of Twinkle Star Sprites for the Saturn. I was very pleased because although Steel Empire is very rare in Japan it is not at all in demand over here (largely because we got a PAL release which is very, very common). Makes up for the time a few years ago when I got hold of a bunch of Jap Megadrive shooters. Sold a few on ebay for a bit of money and then accepted an offer of $20 for Steel Empire because I didn't know what it was and assumed it was worth next to nothing! Some lucky US punk made good on that deal ... still, I would have done the same in his situation, so I don't mind too much :D

For certain, Wonderboy III never came out for the Mark III, but was released as Monster World 2 for the Game Gear in Japan. The differences between the Game Gear and Master System versions are subtle but very much there, in addition to the whole cropped resolution deal. At least they got neat color illustrations in the manual and a claymation style box art of all the animal forms.

Thanks for the info. Interesting that Wonderboy III wasn't released for the Mark III. That game is one of the best for the Master System.

Powerstrike II wasn't released in japan. Though what's interesting is Aleste 2 seems to be a different game as far as I can tell, so that makes Power Strike II a unique game in the Aleste series.
