i read a similar article on ign a few months back that SONY had reserved the web space for www.PStwo.com

I'm pretty sure that it's coming, it needs to be 'cuter' than the ps1 though to warrant a purchase from me. (and easy to mod!)

What page in EGM is that on? I must have missed this.

That sounds really good. Does anyone know if a release data has been announced?

It's in the rumors section, is that Quartermann? I am not sure.

Hopefully they will have a little LCD available for it just like the PSOne. Movies on the go woo hoo!

As someone who lives in a cramped apartment, I would certainly welcome a smaller version of the PS2. That's probably what I like best about the PSOne and the GameCube.

I just read Quartermann from the newest issue... it ain't in there. Can you give an issue and page number?

So that sounds a bit fishy, but we'll see what happens.

I was a little slow, so I had to click on the thread to see what p.s.t.w.o. stood for. Duh to me.
I've never understood why a company would want to redesign & re-release a console so long after it's debut. Do they actually make that much money off it to make it worth the effort? Are there any others that have done it besides Sega and Sony?

I think there was another company that did this with 2 of their systems, maybe you've heard of them...Nintendo. :P j/k

Atari released the 2600jr
Nintendo released the NES toploader

mostly the 2nd releases are made on the cheap side and make more money per unit than the originals.
Could you imagin how offten a PSTWO would break LOL

Oh yeah, how could I forget about Atari and Nintendo *lol* I've gotta stop posting at 2am, the lead in this pencil is pretty dull by then.

Think about how much computer technology changes over 4 or 5 years. A pstwo could be made much smaller and more reliable than the original. It's a company's chance to correct any fatal hardware flaws that were overlooked in the original.

I would definintly buy this, hate the current size of the ps2 as I really need to conserve space, can't wait to see some pics

As for the system possibly breaking down more, I dont think so. If anything, it will hopefully fix some of the problems the PS2 has been having with disc read errors and stuff. Look at the PS one. The origional playstation was a piece of crap when it came to endurance due to the origional lens design and technology. The PS one fixed most of the problems, and was 1/3 of the size! Can you imagine a new PS two being possibly $99? That would really put the squeeze on both Nintendo and the Xbox!

You know, frankly, I will buy whichever version is cheaper. Then buy the other later on down the road.

I haven't gotten a PSOne yet. When they hit $30, I will.

I haven't gotten a PS2 yet at all. But when one of them hits $30, look out!

Look at it this way. Maybe the PSTwo won't die as fast as the PS2. LOL

I Dont think that the PSTwo will hit until they get close to pushing the PS3... because they used the PS2 techonlogy and system archeticure to shrink the PS into the PSOne...same will probably take for the PS2 (though they have dropped the system down from 2 boards to 1 board with both chips running together)
That and Sony is gonna be stupid enough to push the PSX and the PSP(this looks interesting but im not sure yet) which is taking up that development time which would go to focusing to make the PSTwo a reality any sooner....

Anyone know a site that has pics of all the revisions of the PS1's and PS2's. I'm intrigued to see just how they've changed them from their first versions to their current ones.

I've seen the first PS1 inside. I have it. I'm curious to see what the last boxy model looked like before the One.

Looks to me like somebody got ahold of a domain name in hopes that Sony would need it...that happens ALL the time. I don't condone it, but even today some people can make fortunes off domain name registrations. Just don't register something that's already a company's trademark, or you'll stand a good chance of losing it if you're being greedy.

Bah, screw that. Anyhow, yeah, I think that some guy's still got the domain name reg, that's all.

I got an idea.

I'll go back in time to the birth of the interweb and register www.apple.com, www.microsoft.com, www.nintendo.com, www.playstation.com, www.sega.com, www.pepsi.com.. Let's see how much they offer me to use them. ;)

Ummm.....judging from the standards of the NES. I would have to say that, even if cheaper, they're more reliable. The original playstation is a good piece of equipment, but they managed to squeeze it into the ps1. I currently have a ps1 and I can't say there's anything wrong with it other than the fact that the original was built better as far as plastics go. my ps1 lid isn't a sure thing....it shuts when you don't want it to, so....if the pstwo is more reliable then i'm all for it. It would be one of the smarter moves sony has ever done(IMO).

and i don't think it could be much smaller...and I really don't see why anybody would want that as a portable dvd player. The ps2 plays dvds so horrible. I put one in my car simply for the name and for movie playability for my built in screen and I took it out because I couldn't stand the remote or regular controller functions. Portable dvd players are so cheap and versatile that I would go that way. Although i've sold mine since my laptop does the same thing. I guess it's all in what you're really after though......

EDIT: I hope they keep the boxy design! You can stack things that are boxy. I can barely but anything on top of my xbox because the top is nearly domed and it drives me crazy. The gamecube is definitly stackable......but has to be put on top. So hopefully they keep it boxy or make it small enough to the point that it doesn't really matter. :D

Let's all think for a moment.

When and if the PSTwo comes out, what do you think Sony will drop from it?

I say DVD Player functionality. Most likely HD support. Maybe no internet?

PIAZZA SEMPIONE SRL
A quick Google search reveals that Piazza Sempione is an Italian fashion company. I don't know what the "Srl" means, but it would be reasonable to assume that PS is short for Piazza Sempione and PSTwo is for some sort of sister company, Piazza Sempione Srl. Hence, nothing to do with Sony.

Atari came out with the 2600 Jr
NES was made into the toploader
SNES came out with a more portable version
Genesis had 2 diff releases of a smaller version
Psx had a smaller release to Psone
Gameboy was made into Gameboy pocket

i heard that pstwo was coming out a long time ago.. and i also heard a while back that they were doing the same with the xbox.

when they make the pstwo they will probably just take out the expansion port which takes up alot of space.. and also they will probably have to do away with the internet adapter expandability.. also they will possibly make it toploaded which would probably cutdown on something.. not sure what.. maybe space.. or they would take out the disc drive that has to slide out to insert a cd and put in the one where u just slide the cd in.

if sony took the ps2... removed the expansion bay.. and put in like a toploading disc thing.. or the drive where the cd slides straight in.. ps2 would be pretty small..

but they obviously wouldnt take away the dvd capabilities.. like somebody suggested.. the dvd capability wasnt added b/c sony wanted ppl to be able to play dvd's, so they worked hard and got it to play dvds... its there b/c sony uses DVD discs for their games so it has to be able to read DVD discs.. so it would be pretty stupid for them to make pstwo not play dvds..

also i mentioned that microsoft is also supposed to make a portable version of the xbox.. look in the May 2003 issue of the Official Xbox Magazine.. on page 10.. pictures of speculated design..

Ever heard of the DVD Consortium? For every unit Sony sells that play DVD Movies, they pay $20. This is also a main reason Nintendo didn't use DVD's and allow DVD Playback. Money.

To make the PSTwo cheap, it would make sense to drop the DVD playback. And they will.

A DVD player doesn't necessarily HAVE to play DVD movies.
