Jeeez... (repeat) How do you open a Nomad?

I know I've posted it before, but it was quite a while ago and I don't feel like looking for the post.

I've got a busted start button on the thing, but what it feels like is the pard below the rubber caseing has fallen out - and there is something rattling around inside.

Now, I got a bunch of security bits from Silentwolf (sorry man, forgot how you spell your handle) and I just cannot get the bit deep enough into the screwhole to open the unit. 5 of the screws were standard phillips screws, but #6 is a security screw.

Any suggestions? the bit fits into the hole but nothing I have will get it deep enough to get the security bit out...

Well, buy a longer screwdriver I guess... or there are extensions you can get, but the price is probably about the same anyways.

If absolutely nothing else works, you could try drilling the screw out. I did this with a NES that had some (very) stripped screws that I was having a hard time with. I only paid $2 for that NES though, and I'd have to be really out of ideas to try it with a Nomad.

I couldnt get a GameBoy open once. The screen broke, and I wanted to see what the inside looked like. I think i was like 11 at the time. So I smashed it open with a hammer. :o LOL
No clue about the Nomad though.

You can try the ole heating up a bic pen trick.

Take a plastic pen and gut it. Then heat the end up with a lighter and shove it down on the screw real hard.

Then wait for it to cool and twist out the screw.

You'll have to do it for each screw but it will work.

Weird. I was just thinking the same thing. I was wondering what mine looked like inside. Yeah, sure, I could Google for pics, but it's more fun in person. ;)

Except I don't have any Bits of any kind. So if that fifth screw really needs to come out, I'll skip it. Don't wanna ruin it actually.

LOL. When my very first Game Boy died of major usage, I got curious and took mine apart too. I had no trouble, though. And no, I didn't smash it. In fact, for years after I kept the parts. Just because the curious kid in me wanted to try and make something of it. Especially that screen. Silly kid.

Needless to say, I soon got a new GB (Red) to replace it. (A few months before the Pocket was released. Go figure.) And that one is still working. Mainly because.. I.. I can't seem to find it.. it WAS in the attic.. I SAW it! But now I can't! Argh!!!

Wait til you have to deal with seperating the two cover pieces..
with the screen and power ribbons giving up no slack.
I had to take two nomads that were screwed up and make one.
its a bitch .. trust me on this.

Thought occurs...are these Torx screws by some chance? I think Sears sells the screwdrivers for those.

If you have the same kit that I do (the 2 rows of bits with the gamebits in the handle of the driver), then it should fit but it is very very very close. Just give it a little muscle and it'll sink down far enough to contact the screw. You might widen the top of the hole just a bit.

Or, file/sand the bit so it goes in a little further.

I don't think the pen trick will work unless you can find a really thin pen.
