Same here... Anything I can get for free sounds great. Game looks great too. Not gonna mod ps2 or xbox (yet) to play it though. Dreamcast version for me!
EDIT: looks like as I was typing this they added another mirror from dreamcast-scene. I am downloading it right now, so cannot comment on the game yet.

So this game is actually complete, playable, and enjoyable for reasonable periods of time? And it uses an entirely original engine?
Will wonders never cease?

Dreamcast for me, my PS2 don't have a modchip, i don't own an Xbox and a Beat em up on the PC ... gimme a break ;)
I see also 2 player support, me and my console gaming mate are gonna love this one :-P
Played it for 5 minutes, i'm impressed. This game is nice to play and good looking. They have to make more of this stuff (wishfull thinking ... Sega, Acclaim, Capcom .... please :D)

Yea, I played it for a long while after I got it burned. It actually got me interested in the other homebrews and emulators for the system, and I have burned 4 discs since that one. http://homebrew.dcemulation.com has some great ones... including smashDC, which is friggin awesome.

It's fun! The sprites seem a bit big (therefore fewer fit on the screen, or the palyfield is small) but that's a VERY minor quibble.
Considering the properties used, I'd get this while you can.....

Finally got it burned, this game rocks!!!
Is the compressed file zip or rar?
josekortez

It's a zip folder from dreamcast-scene.com. The message said it was either invalid or contained a virus. I ran a virus scan, and there were none, so I deleted the first one, and I'm downloading a second one as I write.

Can anyone help ?

I snagged the Dreamcast version off the newsgroups, and it's surprisingly good! My only complaints are that the game is kind of slow paced (your characters walk slowly), and like a lot of these kinds of games, the fact that you have a rather limited number of moves, and fight the same enemies over and over again means the game can get kind of boring after a while. Still, I had a lot of fun with it though.

Can anyone give me a step by step guide on how to burn it for Dreamcast? I've never done anything like this before. The BOR forum didn't help (someone else asked and another user posted instructions, but it didn't work for me). I tried with DiscJuggler, but it didn't work for whatever reason. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong.
Thanks.

I had to use Alcohol 120%.
I never got DiscJuggler to burn the image correctly.

Use Alcohol 120% instead of Disk Juggler... a lot of people have problems with DJ, but almost everyone here (including myself) was able to burn BOR successfully with Alcohol.
Alcohol has it's own "Image Burning Wizard"... it's pretty self explanatory.

I got Alcohol 120%, used its image burning wizard, made sure to switch it to RAW/DAO mode, and then burned bordc.cdi. What am I doing wrong?

Anyone know if NERO or CD Creator 5 can handle this burn for the Dreamcast? If so, what are the optimal settings? BTW, this looks awesome. X_x

Nero worked for it. You just need to convert the .cdi to a .nrg first. I didn't mess with the settings I just clicked on the .nrg, it opened nero and I hit burn. 5 minutes later dreamcast gaming goodness.

Maybe his Dreamcast can't read CD-Rs.
According to dcemulation.com ALL Dreamcasts can read cd-r's if they use the proper self-boot images.
And this game uses the proper self-boot image.

I've already gone through four disc and none of them work, so before I try this again, I have some random questions:
- Is there any way to reformat/erase CD-R discs?
- Are certain brands of CD-R discs incompatable with Dreamcast?
- Would CD-RW discs work in the Dreamcast?
- I read somewhere that Nero 5 can burn DC discs, but Nero 6 (the one currently on the Nero website) CANNOT. Is this true or not true?
Thanks! :)

- Is there any way to reformat/erase CD-R discs?
No.
- Are certain brands of CD-R discs incompatable with Dreamcast?
Maybe... but I've been using the cheapest ones I can find (y'know, pack of 100, no spindle, silver on both sides), and they work perfectly fine for me, so my guess would be no.
- Would CD-RW discs work in the Dreamcast?
No. Supposedly, you can adjust the laser power to make it read CD-RW's, but that seems like an awful lot of work just for Beats of Rage... and supposedly, you have to undo the adjustments to be able to read normal CD's and GD's.
- I read somewhere that Nero 5 can burn DC discs, but Nero 6 (the one currently on the Nero website) CANNOT. Is this true or not true?
I never use Nero myself, but as was already mentioned, you can convert cdi images into nrg images, and then burn with Nero. Don't know if that would work for you or not.
According to dcemulation.com ALL Dreamcasts can read cd-r's if they use the proper self-boot images.
All Dreamcast's are capable of reading CD-R's... but a very small number of the later ones require a different setup to get them to boot. Almost all emulator images and such burn bootable Dreamcasts disk using a 3-second audio track at the beginning (Since it's a lot easier, and works with ~95% of the systems out there)... the later Dreamcasts don't work with this, and require some other method using two data tracks.
It IS possible that Retro Pro has one of these Dreamcasts. In that case, the only way you'd be able to get it working would be to grab the raw files, and burn the disk "manually" (ie, no Nero, Alcohol, Disk Juggler or any of that... you'd be doing a lot of mkisofs and cdrecord voodoo). I don't know the process of making a "data-data" disc off-hand, but if you search around on the internet, you should be able to find the information.
If you know anyone who has a Dreamcast locally, you might want to see if you can get any of the discs you've burned to work on their systems... if so, then it's your Dreamcast. If the disc doesn't work there, then something is wrong with the way you burned it. Perhaps you have a goofy burner that's doing things wrong? Have you ever managed to burn a bootable Dreamcast disc before? What speed are you burning at?
I think there's a Windows version of Beats of Rage on their website... it would be a lot easier to just play that instead. It's probably not worth all this hassle to get it on your Dreamcast.

Zero,
Thanks for your help. My DC can definitely read CD-R discs though. I have a few others with NES, Genesis, etc. emulators/roms on them (I didn't burn them myself).
If anyone knows the answer to my Nero question, let me know. Thanks.

I forgot to respond to this part:

This is a new computer and I have never burned anything before. I am a complete newbie when it comes to burning. In Alcohol 120%, I've tried the "highest speed" option (that's what it's called - or something like that) and the 16x write option (the speed my burner can write). Neither work. Could it be the size of the disc perhaps? Mine are 700mb. That should be more than enough, shouldn't it?

I have Nero 6 and I couldn't get it to burn a working disc .
I converted the image with cdi2nero and it still made coasters , so this could be true.

Played the DC version over the weekend. Very nice! Got as far as the vertical platform stage.
Also tried out a bunch of the other homebrews making an SBI image. The breakout clone was pretty cool (let's you save level designs via VMU), but most other were fun to play once...
