so, after living without a ps1 for some time, i just got a new one, and i tried hooking up my dexdrive again for shits and grins... thing is, i can't get the damn thing to work!
i was wondering, i thought i rmember the little green light coming on the moment you plug it in... in which case, this thing is screwed, because it's not coming on. can anyone confirm this?
thanks

The light usually comes on when the card is being accessed, doesn't it? As I recall, it's software controllable over the cable.

well, i have the thing plugged in to power and the computer via serial port. when i load up the software, it says it can't find the hardware. can't figure out why.
i did install the software while the thing was all plugged in, would that make a difference? i should probably go dig out my documentation.

I can never get mine working either.

well, i uninstalled the software, unplugged everything, replugged everything in, rebooted, reinstalled software, and BOOM. it works.
to answer my original question, and to confirm what davidbrit said, the light does in fact only come on when the card itself is being accessed.

Suggestion: Get PSXGameEdit (http://www.moberg-dybdal.dk/psxge/). It's got tons of Dex Drive features.

oh man, this looks a helluva lot better than the shitty dex drive sofware. thanks for the link

Yeah, it's got SO many features. Hex editor, multiple image formats for single saves or entire cards, icon editor, some save patching functions, region conversion, etc. Let's just say it's WAY more than enough for me to back up some DDR edits. :-)
