most reissues, like the sega all-stars, or ps1 greatest hits, are different not only on the booklet/packaging, but also on the game disk itself. i was wondering if there is any way to tell if a one of those particular games that were reissued as "hot, new" is original or "hot, new" without any of the packaging.

thanks

...and i suppose i should add without having access to a dreamcast console to test the game out... heh

there are product-nr's on the discs, if the game really differs then the code will also differ....

Didn't the first batch of DC games have bugs or problems? Isn't that the reason for Hot and New! stickers? I remember hearing something about that...

yeah, from what i understand... someone please correct me if i'm wrong... some of them had some sound issues, where the highs and lows sounded shitty. they were reissued with the problems fixed and 'hot, new' emblazoned on the cover to differentiate the two versions.

The only games with the "HOT NEW" stickers were the fixed versions of the launch day MIDWAY releases (MK Gold, Hydro Thunder, R2R Boxing, etc.).

Without the CD case, I think you'd only be able to tell if you had the buggy version by playing it and waiting for the bugs to show up.

The only DC game I know of having it is Mortal Kombat Gold, and in it's case the original vatch of discs had a bug on em in which if you saved your data it would lock up the game.
This was KINDa fixed in the "Hot!New!" version, in that if you saved data it did create a file on your VMU, and it didn't lock up the game, but it didn't actually save any settings or accomplishments tho... but then I never found a MK game that really NEEDED data to be saved anyway...

Hyrdro Thunder definatly shipped with bugs, and was re-released with a Hot! New! sticker (actually I think its printed on the front cover) to distinguish it from the original one. I've had both... the buggy one has some sound issues, for sure.

Just slightly off-topic - does anyone know if these 'bugs' occurred on the PAL versions of these games as well? Or was the problem already fixed by the time the PAL games were released?
