An immediate slap to anyone who jokes about Superman for the NES being their favorite. Fair warning. :smash: LOL

Okay, my favorite would probably be Batman for the Genesis. It manages to be an excellent action title without straying too far from its source material. It had almost everything that the movie did, including that crazy mofo with the swords! It's not strictly an action-platformer either: You get to pilot the Batmobile, and later, the Batwing in two thrilling shmup sequences! It's also a fairly difficult game, but compared to the NES Batman, (which is also a great game) it shouldn't be an exercise in utter frustration. It's a good thing this game came to America... I've heard that Sunsoft wasn't going to bring this game to the states, what with Nintendo's strict licensing policies, but they managed to port it to the U.S.! :D

So, favorite superhero game; what is it? You can say that it's Superman for the NES, but ONLY if it's honestly your favorite superhero game. (see above) :above me:

The Batman games on the Snes and Genesis are good as well as the Superman game on the Genesis. I like the Rise of Sin Tzu Batman game on ps2 the best though.

Superhero League of Hoboken, for the PC.

True, it isn't all that much more than a collection of amusing writing wrapped up in a reasonably neat adventure/RPG hybrid, but since it's all such funny stuff it works quite splendidly. I picked up the CD enhanced version a while ago; I really should try it one of these days...

Spiderman for PS2, Xbox or Gamecube. I love that game.

SunMan for the NES. The suspense on nobody knowing who he is, makes it so awsome. Its a decent game also.

Can I pick three?

Batman for NES. Man, I love that game. Hard as hell too.

Spiderman for PSX or DC. The first one. Amazing game.

Freedom Force for PC. Talk about a sweet game. All original heroes, and you can even create your own.

I guess all the superhero fighting games from capcom would be up there somewhere too.

A few faves:

Spider-Man for the Genesis. One of the first I got for the system "back in the day." I love how you have to shoot photos as well as fight crime - just like Parker has to do in the comics! Fun, fun game - but harder-n-hell.

Spider-MAn on the PSX. Simply amazing when I first played it. I *felt* like I was web-slinging and crawling on the walls and ceiling. And - for a BIG plus - the game opens with the "Spider-MAn, Spider-MAn, does whatever a spider can....." TV theme song. That alone makes it cool beyond belief. (JUst wish Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro had used the same theme. *sigh*)

I have a special place in my heart for The Tick (Genny or SNES) LOved the comic book, then loved the cartoon series (as well as the live-action show later). Just being able to play as The Tick was a treat, though the game itself was a bit sucky.

Spider-Man for PS2 - based on the movie. VEry beautiful game. GOt it about 2 weeks before the movie came out. Though it was a bit spoiler-ish to play it before seeing the film, I got a HUGE kick out of it.

And "also rans" include: Boogerman and Hoboken League (loved it too!)

Freedom Force for the PC (weren't they coming out with a Gamecube version, too?) is the definitive superhero game. I can't wait for that sequel to come out.

The best superhero game I've ever played was a free download of Freedom Force for PC about a year ago. I really need to pick that up...were there any sequels?

I superhero gaming using the GTAIII/VC engine would own you and your mother.

Oh, Dude... I can't believe I'm the first person to say it:

Punisher for the NES

That game is awesome! Very fun!

Batman for Nes and Genesis
Batman Return of the Joker (Nes, the Genesis version blows)
Sunman

Freedom Force for PC. Nothing else I've played actually let you do anything a super hero could. Pick up a bus throw it at bank robbers, uproot a street lamp and use it like a bat, etc.
And to answer jaydubnb's question, they are making a Freedom Force vs. The Third Reich game. RPGDot.com has some info on it.

Batman 1 on the Nes is good

Superman, NOT nes, but the arcade holds a special place in my heart. There has yet to be a good home superman game.

Any spiderman game from playstation on is good.

And of course the greatest superhero of all time .... (drum roll) .... WALL STREET KID!!!!! Hell YEAH!

Batman for the NES. It also happens to be my favorite Batman game by a mile. It captured the whole gothic mood better than anything else. It also helps when most superhero games are Final Fight rip-offs.

What about that DC superhero fighter on the Genesis and Super NES? A fighting game where Aquaman can beat up Superman? Hoo boy.

I haven't played that many, but Viewtful Joe was pretty good.

Comic Zone for the Genesis. The concept of a comic book as a video game is well executed and fun to play!

I'd say that Freedom Force has that same comic book feel but in a different way, also very well done!

Marvel War of the Gems for SNES.

A typical final fight deal but with characters with their own respective powers and "power gems" that did stuff. Very well put together, great control, etc etc.

Spiderman for PSX.

Simply great. I can't word it any other way.

Batman for the NES
Freedom FOrce for PC
Spider-Man for the 2600

I guess Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage technically counts (based on a manga). I'd also throw Hulk out there, as it's pretty fun despite being a mindless "beat-the-shit-out-of-everything" game.

OH....and why the HELL hasn't X-Men 2: Clone Wars (Genesis) been said yet? Huh? I mean..WHAT THE EFF PEOPLE?

ArnoldRimmer83

Forgot about Konami's X Men beat em up. Also Sega's Spiderman arcade game was pretty decent.

OH....and why the HELL hasn't X-Men 2: Clone Wars (Genesis) been said yet? Huh? I mean..WHAT THE EFF PEOPLE?

Maybe because it was awful? :P Just a guess.

Seriously though, I hated that game, and this is coming from a hardcore X-Men fan. Not only is the play control stale, but both that game and its predecessor were home to some of the worst music ever heard on the genesis. Great graphics, terrible game.

An immediate slap to anyone who jokes about Superman for the NES being their favorite. Fair warning. :smash: LOL

Fine I love Fantastic Four(PS1) and the Crow City of Angels(PS1)...cause sometimes I need to take a break from slitting my wrist.

Seriously here's my list
Spiderman PS1
Viewtiful Joe GC
Spiderman (Genesis) taking pictures do rock
Spiderman the animated series

Superman for nes(which I do like actually) is probably the pinacle of superman games...and that's kinda sad. So let it be known it's nigh-impossible to make a good superman game...but then again that's common knowledge.

Superman - Atari - 2600
Superman - Taito - arcade
Batman - Sunsoft - NES
Batman - Sunsoft - Genesis
The Adventures Of Batman & Robin - Konami - SNES
X-Men - Konami - arcade
Spider-Man - Sega - Genesis
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Konami - arcade

If you count the turtles as superhero's I would definately have to say:
Turtles in Time for the SNES. Months on playing that game with my brother and finally beating it.

If that doesn't count I would have to say Batman for the NES. Great game.

My most dissapointed one was SuperMan 64 for the N64. I reserved that game like 4 months before it was released and it turned out to be shit!

Spider-Man for PSX is my number one. This was the first game that made me willing to consider transcending my hardline old-school gaming stance by breaking down and buying a Playstation, which I eventually did, and the first two games bought and beaten for that system were Spider-Man 1 and 2 (Spidey and I go way back, y'see).

Superman for the 2600 was fun, albeit confusing.

And I've got to give props to both X-Men and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the arcade. These early 90's multi-player side scrollers were never my cup of tea, but my kids play the hell out of them on my MAME cab so that's okay by me 8-)

Well, all of my favs have definitly been mentioned at least once, however no1 has mentioned punisher (arcade version) <--- outstanding title (and pretty damn good on the genesis)

I second punisher on the Nes, one of my favs

I would also like to bring much attention to Comix Zone for the Genesis, for those of you who haven't even tried this one definitly give it a shot, the graphics will blow you away and the real comic book strip feel is just amazing

...Freedom force for pc sounds awesome, I'll have to give that one a shot

As I recall, the PC version of Comix Zone (not the one from the Sega Smash pack, but an entirely new port) is supposed to be better than the Genesis one. Hard to find, though.

Anyone ever try Defenders of Dynatron City for the NES? By Lucasarts, I think.

Garry Silljo
02-04-2004, 09:45 AM
Yes, Defenders of Dynatron city was a terrible game. poor graphics, poor gameplay. Certain characters like the dog and hammerhead man are totally useless. I tried to make myself win it, but it was just too painful.

Obviously I haven't played them all but the ones that have impressed me...

Spider-Man (The Movie) on GameCube and its successor Spider-Man Two or whatever it's called
Spider-Man (the one for PS1, Dreamcast and others)
Batman Returns on SNES (Yes, it's fairly repetitious but it's done so well you don't notice it so much, excellent graphics and incredibly moody music)
The Adventures of Batman & Robin on SNES (with the look of the animated series)

Superman is actually my favorite super-hero but I don't know if I can recommend any of his video game adventures...well, maybe his Atari 2600 game...

I wonder if the upcoming Batman Begins and Fantastic Four games will be any good?

NES Superman brings back such memories. I borrowed it from a friend three times and each time I could get up to a certain point (the same point) and then have no idea what to do or where to go. Anyway...

My favorites are
Batman - NES
Spiderman - Gameboy (first Spiderman game I played with a large, nice-looking Spiderman sprite)
Adventures of Batman and Robin - SNES
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Arcade
X-Men - Arcade
Spiderman - PSX

I also have a soft spot in my heart for the NES Spider-man: Return of the Sinister Six, despite the fact that the game could be absolutely unfair on Mysterio's level.

I also recently bought Freedom Force but have yet to play it.

I also like beginning sentences with "I also"

I love the X-men arcade game for its six person capability (I don't think there is another arcade game like it). Also, it's a thrill to play as Wolverine. I'd love to see a sequel 2D game.
