I have a few Japanese Geo games with carton/cardboard boxes. Are they really harder to find or is this just a way for sellers on Ebay to list stuff?

some games came in cardboard boxes and some games came in a plastic clam-shell like box, usually referred to as a SHock-Box. No idea about rarity though or cardboards compared to shock boxes.

However, www.neo-geo.com is a super devoted neo community, they can answer all your questions there. But be advised they have quite the "133t" attitude.

While many of the cartoon boxes games are rare, many collectors don't like them since they're not durable and are cheap looking. I'm one of them who dislike those even if they're supposedly worth a lot of $$.

Most Japanese NGPC games come in cardboard boxes like the US releases. I've got a couple of clam shells (which is how all 39 UK rleleases were done) but that's about it.

I'll say. I can't even view the forums, because (i think) of some bizarre IE cookie policy. I dropped my browsers pants as low as I'm willing to, and still it won't let me in. I e-mailed the Site admin a week ago about the problem (politely and with respect), and got no response.

133t and closed, as far as I can tell. I'm not sure I even want 'in' to their forums anymore.

Keep in mind that frequent posters there spend more time (or shall I say waste their lives) on the forum than actually playing and enjoying the games. Despite being a NG collector myself, I hardly read any posts there now, most threads are waste of time topics, even the best and seemingly good discussions/topics can easily turn into flame wars, it gets so bad that Shawn (site owner) even received death threat from certain members before, as well as threats against certain members and mods. My close friend, who's also Neo-Geo fanatics, only goes to Selling forum to trade and sell items, nothing more. There used to be a mailing list that's far worse than NG.com where 90% of the postings are flames and trolls, many people come to the scene with the idea of collecting and selling for profits or collecting for the purpose of his ego status (showing off that he can afford such games).

If you want a good tips on the game play, check Game Faqs (even that's better) or Asian/Latin American emulation sites.

The UK clamshell ones appear to be the most desirable for collectors. Probably because you can get a matching BIG NeoGeo AES clamshell of basically the same games.

I only have one(Cool Boarders Pocket).
