Hi all,

I never thougt I'd do this, but I'm actually considering selling my Atari 2600 prototype collection. As many of you know, I've bought a new house. It's an old house from 1935 which needs lots of work. All wiring and plumbing and stuff needs to be renewed. I want to preserve the style of the house and that costs a lot of extra money. Then I started thinking "what's worth to me more: a great new/old house or my Atari prototype collection?", and at this moment I'm leaning towards the house.

So, here it is, a probably once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire an incredible Atari 2600 prototype collection. Right now, I am NOT going to sell individual items. I know this will make it less likely that I will find a buyer, but I don't want to go through the hassle of individual sales and being stuck in the end with the less desireable protos. But then again, I bet you guys are resourceful enough to team up and buy this with a couple of collectors.

In case you're wondering, I am keeping my regular Atari collection. My new house will have a gameroom where all my boxed games will be on display. I'm also keeping my prototype boxes and hardware prototypes, o don't bother asking me to sell my PGP-1 ;)

Now, on to the list of goodies. This has taken me a decade to collect. It contains real gems that have never been on sale before, like the 2in1 experimental Atari carts (yes, you've seen them on the rumor list, and they exist!). All in all, the collection contains 57 prototypes, 54 of them are NTSC, 3 are in PAL format.

And then, the price. It's always difficult to establish the right price for collections like these. Many items have never been on sale before. Other items on the list may appear to be common, but most items in this collection are the 'good' and rarer lab loaner versions, and not the cheap Best Electronics knock-offs. If you are seriously interested in purchasing this lot, please contact me and we'll talk about the price.

That's it, I'm looking forward to hearing from you!

Cheers,
Marco

Totally unbelievable this. Such a great collection. There are more droolers over at atariage posting, but I know some of the folks here must have noticed...

I'd love to contribute to a mass purchase (a group could purchase the lot and divy it up), but I'd really want to recover that Rabbit Transit cart that I found and traded to John Earney who sold it to Marco. Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie! Ah, well. We'll see.

Nice collection. I gotta tell ya, you'll probably make more $ if you divvy it up. On top of that, you are limiting your market to a very, very, very small group of people that would even think of getting the whole kit and kaboodle (Way too much dinero). Plenty of forum goers here would gladly buy individuals or groups off of you, myself included....but all of it..damn.

I know it's a long, long shot, but for now I would really like to try to sell this as a lot. Taking individual offers or even auctioning them (eBay is out for protos, so I would need to do this the old fashioned way) is a bit too much for me at the moment. If it doesn't sell in one go, I may just keep the collection after all. I've had many inquiries so far, both groups and individual people, and some of them appear to be really serious about it, so we'll see what happens!

Cheers,
Marco
