I just purchased a brand new factory sealed Super Metroid for $25. I did not realize there were at least 3 box variations of this game, and feel I might have gotten ripped off. The 3 I've see so far are:

1. Upper right hand corner has "Only For" in green writing
2. Upper right hand corner has gold triangle and reads "Only For" in black
3. Had the "Players Choice Million Seller" Nintendo seal on it

I purchased the one with the gold corner....was this a later release and did I in fact get ripped off?

Thanks in advance!

I have a feeling the green (your first listed) "Only For" version is the first. That's a guess, since Nintendo seems to release the plain versions first (i.e. the early release of Metroid II for the GameBoy, with the steel gray GameBoy logo, versus the later release with the gold lettering and large SoQuality on the front). All a guess, but it just makes sense to me.

If you check out Classicgaming.com's Metroid Database (classicgaming.com/mdb) a guy who found a lot of glitches in Super Metroid claims Nintendo told him an early (very early?) release of the game has a certain glitch (use the speedball glitch to shoot through some blocks in the upper right hand corner of the room where you fight Crocomire, this would be over the lava pit) that lets you get into a "Secret World" type room. I would think that was caught fairly early, though, and that the print run's packaging wasn't altered for the new ROM revision's release.

By the way, ANY version of Super Metroid found new and sealed is worth a heck of a lot more than $25. Back when I was starting out on eBay in 2001 a copy of the original sold for $90. New, sealed.

I agree with Ed. A sealed Super Metroid is worth well over $100.

Here's one that had a BIN and the seller let it go to cheap but it gives you an idea what it's worth.

Hey, looks like mine. Even down the shrinkwrap still around my copy :)

I do like the Japanese version so much better, though. Even more so when comparing guides (at least the covers).

Here in Europe we had versions with the strategy guide in big boxes (A4 format, real cool!) and without the guide in the normal SNES boxes. I'm wondering of they where outside Europe to?
Germany had a black box (http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2784511385&category=11248), rest of europe it was the normal (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3073879693&category=3603#ebayphotohosting) "metroid red" one.
