HELLO EVERYONE. I just had a question about the Sega Genesis version 3.
My first is if all 3 versions of the genesis use different RF Switches, which I think they do. Also, does the version 3 play all the games as the other genesis systems?

Also, did is there an OFFICIAL SEGA Genesis brand RF Switch out there? I looked all over the place and couldn't find an official one. If I can help it, I don't want an off brand rf, I have never found ONE accessory that was off brand that worked well, NEVER. SO I never even bother wasting my money on NON-OFFICIAL things. So was just wondering if sega made one and where I could find one? Any help will be greatly appreciated!! THANKS ALOT!!

The Genesis 3 does not include a Z80 processor which a small amount of games use to work. And some games have messed up sound because of that.

As for connectability, I thought the 3 was the same plug as the 2?

In which case, there IS an official Sega RF adapter because I have it. (Came with my Genesis 2. So if I'm right and the 3 does use the same plug...) It says Sega. Has the logo and the model number: MK-1632.

Of course, it all depends on if the Genny 3 has the same output as the 2.

Anyone wanna confirm?

Edit: Apparently, according to this page, http://www.sjgreatdeals.com/inn610213.html , the 2 and 3 use the same port. So mine would work on a 3.

If you want it, I'll send it to you for the cost of shipping. Last I checked, it worked fine.

When you say a samll amount of games, does that mean like 10-20 or so, and would you happen to know what games that does it on? I hope not Sonic, Turtles, Batman, etc, any of the real good games.
THANKS for the help!

No. No. Don't worry. Those all work. Only ones that REQUIRE the Z80 will be the really bad ones. Little help anyone with a list of incompatable games?

You're better off getting a Genesis 2 if you're that paranoid about it.

Virtua Racer I believe is incompatible with the Genesis 3.

Also, if you plan on using the Power Base Convertor, 32X, and Sega CD do NOT get a Genesis 3. None of those will work with it.

The official Sega 2/3 RF switch is pretty flaky. 1st or 3rd Party (Pelican makes a pretty good one) doesn't make much of a difference in this case, IMO.

Also, no stereo on this thing, and while you can get composite A/V from it, it's pretty darn low quality with a LOT of color bleed. At least that's what my two Genny 3s say, anyways. Maybe it has something to do with my immersing them in water to see if they'd float (witchery if they do)...in any case, I'd say that the Genesis 3's only positives are that it can play the same selection of games as a Nomad (quite large, can do a lot of European games) and has a relatively small footprint (though you wouldn't know this from looking at the box).

The Nomad plays more. Mine plays Virtua Racing. So if a Genny 3 can't because of the Z80, then the Nomad does have a Z80.

That's quite useful to know :)

Well its not that I am that paranoid about it, its just I want to be able to play the good games right. It sound the the genesis 3 has a lot of flaws for some damn reason. And the thing is I just bought a genesis 3 at a garage sale, BRAND NEW, for $30. Maybe I need to just sell that and get a genesis 2, but I don't know I probably will just give the 3 a chance.
THANKS FOR THE HELP!! :D

Yeah, do give the Genesis 3 a try, if just to decide if you're okay with its flaws or not. I have a pretty good TV and use stereo headphones, so I really dislike it, but that's a personal choice.

I also hear that the original Genesis is slightly better than the Genesis 2, as well. I wouldn't know from experience, though.

If you want to play the most games, a very first Genesis 1 would be your best bet. But you can't tell which it is until you turn it on. If it shows a Copyright screen first, it's the wrong one.

Anyway, the Genesis 3 was not made by Sega. Who made it again? It was a third party which is also why it's watered down. To save money.

I would go for a 2 or 1. I have both. The 2 has the 32X and CD hooked to it. So I can play everything. The 1 is plain. It's Mono though. But I can solve that by routing the audio through the Headphone Jack. But it's not a big deal for me. I don't care if my Genesis is Mono or Stereo. If I WANT stereo, I still have my Genesis 2/32X/CD to use.

I say keep the Genesis 3 as nice you can. If it's complete, it'll at least be collectable. And try to find an older 1 or 2 somewhere.

Well there you go, you answered by question COMPLETELY!!!
I don't really care about the headphone jacks in the gene1, so will go will genesis #2. I just want to play on a regular TV, with the ORIGINAL picture and the original sound that it's suppossed to have! That's all, play all the good games right!

I did not know that the genesis 3 was not made by sega? I have never heard of a system going out with a thrid party system. What bullshit. As I have stated before, I HATE anything other than First party things, have had bad expier. with them!! THANKS ALOT!!

Whoa, whoa. Don't go all crazy. LOL

Yes. The Genesis 3 was made by a third party company as a last hurrah.

It was made by Majesco in 1998 as the system died out. But hey, the first was made by Tonka. Not all systems are made by the company that releases them.

There were tons of other Genesis systems also made by third parties that do not Suck. The JVC X'Eye/Wondermega is a Genesis and Sega CD in one with Mutimedia capabilities. That is highly sought after.

Aside from that, there are others like the Genesis in a Boom Box. The Genesis in a computer. The Genesis in a Vacuum Cleaner.. okay.. I made that last one up.

Hell, if you hadn't paid more than I'm willing to for that Genny 3, I'd offer to buy it from ya.

But I'm with ya. Some third party items suck. Some don't, though.

I went into an EBGames a few weeks ago and overheard the clerk remark, "Yeah. We've got a deal with MadCatz. They make great products." At that moment, I got flashbacks of all the shitty MC controllers and periphrials I bought that fell apart. I wanted to laugh out loud, but they had a nice selection of old games I wanted, so I was stuck listening to his lies.

But companies like Pelican, I have their System Selectors. 3 of them. They work GREAT and are built so strong.

Other than that, I like to stick to items made by the company who releases the system.

FYI: the SMS was made by Tonka not the Genesis. I just went and changed that, something I've been meaning to do for awhile.

Mad Catz has turned around lately, and have been making more solid products.

Thanks a lot. I went to your SMS page thinking it was also made by a third party and saw none. Guess I had a feeling.

In my eyes, Madcatz will always be that shitty fall-apart-gamecube-controller-and-system-selector-company. Simply put, I can never again trust them with any of my money.

Sad too, because Nintendo can't even make a Cube controller that lasts either.

Maybe it's just an Xbox thing then. I know their stuff for that is pretty stand up. Have you tried a Wavebird for your cube yet? I've dropped mine on hard wood and cement floors more than I can count and it keeps on ticking.

Well, except for those rare occasions when dust gets internally lodged in the on/off button and you have to buy a screw driver to take it apart. x_x

Well, except for those rare occasions when dust gets internally lodged in the on/off button and you have to buy a screw driver to take it apart. x_xMy two original Xbox controllers (An old BIG one, my favorite one, and our S one) still work great. They can't be killed.

But my original GCN controller gave up. The control stick is offset. By like one digital amount. Enough to make the most sensitive games flip out. I had to buy a second, but I couldn't bring myself to buy a WB yet. So I got a replacement black one. And I'm so paranoid that it'll break too and I'll have wasted another $25.

Hell, the original SNES controllers didn't last for me either. I got a Capcom Street Fighter controller in 1993 for Christmas and I love the fucking thing. I've used it over 10 years and it still works! I haven't touched a standard SNES controller since.

And our N64 controllers died from the "Mario Party Disease". Damn you Hudson Soft. Damn you and your rotation games.

So I got a replacement N64 controller by Interact called the MakoPad64 which was much better shaped (The cross and the stick on the same side and the Z easy to reach. If N had used THAT design in the first place, people wouldn't have anything to complain about.) But that one eventually died. The control stick again. Got a replacement from GS, but that is also dying.

WHAT IS IT WITH NINTENDO AND CONTROL STICKS??? It doesn't matter who makes their controllers, the stick will go bad.

THAT'S GREAT! There is such thing as a Mario Party Disease! I also think those games for the N64 to that to the joystick. I guess because it was Nintendo's first auctual controller that used joysticks they didn't desogn them well. I just bought 2 brand new controllers from nintendo for $60, ouch!! The controller always has me thinking about the games I play, should I play this because it will break my controller.

I used to buy a few things mad catz for the N64, but haven't bothered with anything since. EXCEPT for the (Logitech or Agetech, don't know, whatever) GUN for the Dreamcast! Since sega didn't release an american version of guns (Don't know why, they made ALL the good games pretty much gun related that were released by the dreamcast) and that thing works perfect!
