I decided out of the blue it would be fun to run 2 posts that would essentially be "what if this happened?" type deals just for fun. Just reply and say what you would do in the situation. I am doing it in 2 posts as to not clutter one full post with 2 different subjects, it would get too confusing.

Scenario #1:
What would you do if there was a fire and you lost every single game in your collection? Don't change the subject, just say what you would do.

Here's what I would do:
Regardless of whether my stuff was insured or not, some of the stuff I have is not replacable, either that or it will be near impossible to replace. I am a grown man and don't show much emotion, but I think that would be the one thing that would send me to me knees in tears. I guarentee I would never collect games again from the insurance money. I wouldn't even try to start it up again. I would probably just do something crazy with the money after I finally got over my big loss.

if it was insured then i would take the money and start to rebuild the collection. i also have a bunch of irreplaceable stuff but i'd just have to do without those. if it wasn't insured i probably wouldn't start from scratch again... or maybe i would but only on my nes collection.

I would cry hystericlly for a bout 5 days straight. When all the woman like tears are past, I would get dressed and finally go to school. After school i would immediatly go out and get the a job, working every free moment I have. My whole summer would be comsumed of saving up and then spending to get half of my collection. Although my favorite piece would of already been burnt, and is not replacable, the Digital press Collectors Guide that Joe gave me on behalf of Digital Press. I wont forget that Joe, and I think that would be my biggest loss. That is my pride and joy.

PS- This is why I always keep a fire extinguisher in my video game room.

I would be upset, maybe even weep. But would eventually start collecting again. Not with the same intesity, but I love games and wouldnt be able to entertain myself long without them. I would buy more of the REALLY good stuff and ignore the common crap unlike now, but would never quit altogether.

Also I would buy ice cream. That will fix things.

There would no longer be a reason for me to hold back... My dark side would be unleashed, and the world would know my fury!

Cry a lot. Break things. Then hope my insurnace company believed me on the value of stuff and start to replace it.

This story seems to be a little more popular, but none the less, it is cool to see the heart that goes into you guys. losing everything, you would just go right back into it, even if insurance screwed you.

I would be happy that I was alive, and probably more concerned about getting clothing and a new place to live.
The downside about insurance is that it'd be pretty much impossible to get back what you paid in, unless you have some kind of special policy to cover your collection.

Since I really don't have a big collection of games on any system I would start rebuilding my collection. There are two things I cannot replace though and one is my Adventure of Rookie and the other is my Digital Press Guide 7 that Joe and John Hardie signed at the last nava meeting.

I would be estatic that nobody got hurt, then go on with my life. Video games wold be the least of my concerns. House, clothes, dishes etc would come first then I'd eventually buy the newer sysyetms I tend to play, but probably wouldn't really colect any more, but then again I'm on the fence about that now anyway. But seriously, if there was a fire the last thing I'm doing is crying over any "toys."

I'd cry like a bitch, then beg you guys for your commons you don't need.

Seriously, if any of you guys had it happen to you , I'd donate, provided you weren't leaching 10 post whore. UNless, of course, you decided to give up collecting then.

PS- This is why I always keep a fire extinguisher in my video game room.

Excellent idea... I plan to get a non-water sprinkler system in my gameroom someday (you know...those chemical powder things).

I wouldn't want to lose everything, but in a way it would be fun to have to start over. Relive the joy of finding a rarity 3 Atari cart, rather than saying, "Oh I have 5 of those already."

I would dance with joy and then go shoot a tree. Well, except the shooting trees part, and the dancing with joy. I'd be quite pissed, actually, but I'd go get more.

Anyhow, I rifled through my papers and I came across some instructions on dealing with the loss of your most prized commercially reproduced items, and here's a small selection of what I read:

DEALING WITH LOSS IN A CAPITALIST SOCIETY

It's dangerous to go alone! Mark off the items on this checklist.

□ Dispose of cigars/cigarettes/lighters properly and don't leave unstruck matches lying on sandpaper or on shoes, etc.

□ Clean up all dust and change the filters. Tune up the jet scooter as the Rorons are quite bad about keeping things in order.

□ Make sure you don't leave any bunsen burners running.

□ Use the Dynamite on the doors to Nido and the Biosystems lab only. This prevents thieves from blasting in your door and stealing all the things.

□ Do not let Dr. Robotnik hit your game cartridge with a 10 ton hammer and do not put it on chairs where 15 pound elf women may accidentally sit on it, both leading to the consequence of a damaged game cartridge.

Having accomplished all the items on this checklist, proceed to slay monsters until you have enough money to buy all the best armor, guns, and lots of antiparalysis for your MAG, kill more monsters, lose one of your closest friends, kill the Chief Bad Guy and steal his PC-Engine game collection, and tell President Ronnie to buy you more games.

Looks like fun to me :D

My biggest concern if all my stuff was destroyed would be the possibility of finding replacements and sadness at having been a bad steward of my games. Already I've got some stuff I don't think I'll see again at the prices I have found them.

Well, I would see how much could get from my insurance company and then use that money to refinance my home. Then I'd probably buy a Gamecube or something and start over.
