I think you mean genres there - but that's OK, I got what you were talking about.
2-D arcade classic-style stuff will always be my favorite, bar none. The simpler, the better. Anyone can pick it up, learn it on the spot, and play it. To me, that's how it should be. The Bushnell Axiom - "easy to learn, hard to master" - seems to have vanished in the past 10-14 years.

My favorite's are:
Adventure
Action
Racing (Off-Road games, and Mario karts only)
Least Favorites are:
RPG's (I hate the ones where you push a button and the computer does the action for you!!)
Sports (First, I don't like how these games end up on the margin bin a few months after release. Second, Snowboarding games and Blitz's don't count, I actually love those!)
