The "infamous" strategy game by Sega. Interestingly, the seller has listed it as "Advanced German Blitz Tactics," which the main title SURELY isn't. What does the title (and the subtitle below) translate to? "World War?"

Help would be appreciated :)

I also see a version was released in 2000 for the Dreamcast called something along the lines of "Advanced Daisenryaku : Sturm über Europa : Der deutsche Blitzkrieg."

Daisenryaku I think mean like great war capture or something. I would need to see the Kanji to know for sure. Also a fair amount of titles just don't translate well. Capture can also kind of mean like a guide for a game you would find at gamefaqs or something. Have no idea on the other part.

Great war is as close as I could come via the web.

Here is what vgmuseum shows:

Senryaku = strategy
Dai = big

Doitsu Dengeki Sakusen:
Doitsu = Germany
Dengeki = Blitzkreig (literally Lightning War, which is what Blitzkrieg means in German)
Sakusen = Also means strategy, tactic, etc.

Sakusen is one of those Japanese words that's used a lot, so the translation doesn't really work quite well.

So, looks like the seller kinda mixed the title and subtitle together.

oddly enough, the title is sort of accurate. the game is played from the german perspective, and as a great strategy game and a historical work, is recommended. he game also supported the mega drive modem, which never was released in the u.s. (we did get the x-band, but i couldn't see little johnny wanting to play nazis vs. allies with the kid down the block- mortal kombat has to do, i guess)

too bad the game never came out here. the game goes from 1939-1945, and is probably "infamous" for the digitized clip and speech of hitler that opens the game. like all of system soft's games, it's deep and very involving. there are a load of daisenryaku titles like super daisenryaku (md), great strategy expert (1 & 2, sfam), daisenryaku g (game gear), daisenryaku strong style (saturn) advanced daisenryaku (released here on the saturn as iron storm, and i believe japan got a second game in that series as well), and the dc game, which has an amazing cg opening! of course, there's little to no english in the menus on any of these, but they're nice examples of video games used for purposes other than mindless entertainment.

if you're looking for a really kickin' strategy game that you can play, try sgt. saunder's combat (ascii, for the super famicom). it's based LOOSELY on the tv show with vic morrow (well, the cast of the show shows up as playable characters), and the menus are all in english!
