You can already play most NES games on your GBA using a flash cart, including Contra.

I'd imagine Chrono Trigger and SMRPG would be popular choices.

I picked the NES. I did that because I still have all my snes greats, in brand new condition pretty much, but there is alot of games for the Nintendo NES I don't have, or don't work, or can't find. My picks are:
Castlevania Series
Blaster Master
Metal Gear 1-2
Contra Series

Off the subject kind of, I wish more games would be ported to the gamecube.(Like the Sonic Mega Collection, and the Mega Man collection coming out) I think they are alot better quality on the gamecube. I can't wait for when my favorite N64 games are ported. I would just buy them know, but still too expensive.

So many classics, even pre-NES, lend themselves to GBA goodness...here's my wishlist.

Taipan
Fantasy
Guzzler
all the Mr. Do games
Archon
Exed Exes
Vulgus
Jungle Hunt
Pirate Ship Higemaru
Lode Runner
...and I gotta think that an Intellivision collection would be do-able for the GBA if they stuck to simple titles - Shark Shark, Snafu, Star Strike, Night Stalker, Frog Bog, etc. etc.

My thoughts exactly. The whole reason I've stayed away from the GBA for the most part, is that there are too many ports of 16-bit games which I can grab for a tenth of the price on SNES/Mega Drive.

I'm sick of all the ports too... I want NEW Mario and Zelda game dammit. I'm not buying something I already have just because it's now portable.

I'd go for Shining Force on the GBA or PSP. That would be great.

They have a remake of the first Shining Force on the GBA.

Anyways, for me, I'd like both 8 and 16-bit games.

NES
Contra
Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse
Ninja Gaiden 2
Ninja Gaiden 3
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3: Manhattan Project
Star Tropics
Star Tropics 2: Zoda's Revenge
Tetris

SNES
ActRaiser
Earthbound
Robotrek
Final Fantasy IV
Seiken Densetsu 3
Castlevania: Dracula X

That's all I can think of for now.

I'd love to see Soul Blazer make a return. I'd also love to play Pilotwings, Sim City, Super Mario World, Star Fox. There's a ton of games that I'd love to play on the road, but I have to agree about some new games. I mean without new games, where will our future ports come from??

None.

One of the reasons i cannot respect the GBA is the fact its inundated with ports.

Who would evwer want their favorite classics to be portable. Perish the thought. I will need to fetch the hair shirt just for thinking about it!

I though I heard something absholutelly bahking mad....

Nevermind. Tis' the wind. (All those original games on other systems too!! Nothing ever gets sequels/ports on anything but that damn GBA. And between you and me, all those great GBA only games like Advance Wars, Circle of the Moon, etc. are part of a daemonic conspiracy).

Thunder Force 3 + 4 in one cart would be really nice if they got ported well.

Of course that won't happen, like hell if the industry cares what I think. They (EA and Sony?) probably spy on me to help them decide what not to make. Not just torment and a violation of privacy, good business in this market.

Well Sega tried to do that with the Game Gear, and it wasn't as bad as one might think.

There's a bit of impressions in the GG section of GaijinPunch's website:
http://www.classicgaming.com/japangaming

Otherwise I'd never have known. Really nice source of info.

I say they should give it another go myself. It doesn't need to use polys to have that style of play IMO.

It wouldn't really be a port per se, but I still think it's a good idea.

Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Grafitti

Damn nice game. If they ever make a collection (please) they had better not leave that one out.

I think we (people who know the game exists) would be rather miffed.

A compilation would be much easier than lugging around a Nomad and Turbo Express.

I want my portable Splatterhouses without needing to lug around such things. (Well, I wouldn't mind one or the other in most circumstances, I can't play more than one at once, but the GBA would be awfully convenient.)

Exactly. It wouldn't be a Splatterhouse collection without it.

It'd be nice if Square-Enix would translate Dragon Quest V & Dragon Quest VI, and put them on the GBA (or DS).

Lets see.... I would like these to be ported to the GBA or DS (the bottom screen could be beneficial):

Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy V
Final Fantasy VI
Chrono Trigger
Secret of Mana - imagine if they added 2 player+ capabilities
Tales of Phantasia
Lufia
Lufia 2
Seiken Densetsu 3
Super Metroid
Original Contras in a Collection

Thats all I can think of right now. A little RPG heavy.

I though I heard something absholutelly bahking mad....

Who would ever want to spend $30 for a game they already got sitting at home and that could be had for...wait for it, LESS THAN HALF THAT PRICE!

I don't really know who is more of a madman, the person who refuses to purchase the same 10yr old game, or someone who thinks that just because its "portable" suddenly means its worth paying full price again.

I never said it didnt have orginal games...but when i used to go to work and count more ports of 10 yr old games than orginal titles, well...

You'll have to excuse me if i'd rather spend $30 on a *NEW* game that challenges my skills instead of firing up another release of "Super Mario World" and playing the same levels all over again.

I'm really only interested in ports of games that I can't play in other forms. That means:

1. Ports of arcade games that aren't MAMEd or have poor MAME support.

2. Ports of obscure/rare/expensive import-only games. I wonder how the GBA would handle a Dracula X: Rondo of Blood port?

I'd also like to see all the Microvision games ported to GBA, just for the sake of irony. LOL

Sorry, it seemed your comment was aimed more towards the GBA than the endless junky ports is all. I don't see why that makes it a bad portable, which is what that "I don't respect it" seemed to imply. Am I mistaken?

The earlier part of this thread is largely a bunch of:

"What's the point?"

That isn't an answer it's another question. OK to feel that way, but:

1. How many new(ish) games does a system frickin' need to be viable? GBA has plenty. I don't see much innovation elsewhere either these days.... Other than DS.... Nintendo still has it, regardless of what anyone says.
2. Lots of systems have loads of needless ports. Why put down the GBA? There is really nothing that you would really like to see ported.
3. Did I say I would pay full price?
4. It depends on how often you depend on portables for gaming.
5. Many of the ports have no point as you say. Some do.
Super Mario World isn't one I would say is worth the money.
Also, what is up with that "I don't respect it" part.
6. The part about seeing more ports on the shelves would tick me off too. But thats because of how poorly stores stock games. The proportions seem much worse looking at store shelves.

If I depended on normal stores to buy games I would likely have given up the hobby by now.

The chances of finding something I want are rather slim these days in most shops.

I know I do it myself, but why make barbs without adding anything? There must be something you would like to see ported. This is a wish list of sorts after all.

5. We're all mad here. I'm madder than most by some standards perhaps.
6. I just have a weird urge to use biting sarcasm whenever possible.

I think we would all prefer that.

I don't think there would be any difficulty with porting DracX.

The music would just have to be reformatted *very* carefully. The cut scenes are nothing the GBA hasn't seen, that's for sure. The ones in that Love Hina GBA thingy are nice.

Now that you mention it, I am beginning to see what is annoying about the ports.

It's not that they are ports, but rather what they are ports of. Of all the ports made, very few are worth a damn.

There is a lot of potential if companies would be less lazy and port things that need porting. Most of the Famicom whatsis series is just collector bait (no offense to those who collect them, they are kind of cool still IMO).

Not to mention the Super Mario Advances. Will that ever end? Now with Mongo's review of SMB Advance 5... Thousand!

All I want are a few titles. Almost all SNES (2 SNES, 1 Genesis, 1 NES) games I loved and either owned or never was able to buy.

Lufia 1
Lufia 2
Dragon Warrior 4
Phantasy Star 4

Dragon Warrior 4 and Phantasy Star 4 would be very apreciated, but honestly, those first two games alone would be enough to make me happy. I know there is a Lufia title available for the GBA, but I dont want a new game, just a re-release of the old SNES games. They could even fix the bugs in the secret dungeon and I would honestly consider that to be an update worth getting it for. If Capcom can re-release Breath of Fire 1 and 2 for it, I think they can release those 2 as well. Honestly, all 4 seeing a domestic release would be heaven.

I don't respect the GBA because i don't respect Nintendo. I don't respect Nintendo because they do not respect me. Instead of giving me a new 2D Mario adventure with thier prized system, they instead port games i already own and have played numerous times.

So, i'm not going to buy thier products if they aren't giving me something i want to buy.

End of story.

As for any game i want ported to the GBA.
