hey peeps,
was just checking out the ebay insanity section, and something strange (at least to me) caught my eye. I noticed this auction:

The "sealed" nintendo system. I posted earlier this weekend about finding a brand new NES system in the box at a local flea market (by the way that is not mine, I decided to keep mine unless someone wants to trade!). I noticed in the picture in the auction of the box, Mattel's symbol and name are on the lower left corner, mine doesnt have that. Whats the deal? Was there a nintendo/mattel connection I never knew of?!?! Thanks in advance!! Theres a pic below with mine in it....

I believe Mattel distributed the NES outside of the US. That one might have come from Canada.

All "legally sold" (not smuggled) NES's in Canada were distributed by Mattel Electronics. It's logo is on AC adapters, boxes and docs. One could call it a label variation. Apparently they did a good job, as the NES sold better per Capita in canada than it did in the US.

That did no favours for me finding games for my SMS in 1987. :?

I second that.. :)

All NES systems in Canada are marked with Mattel stickers on the bottom, along with a 416 area code contact phone number. (416 is Toronto area code, which is where I'm from)

Not only system, but all accessories made by Nintendo (Advantage, NES MAX, Four Score...) and also all games made by Nintendo (SMB, Excitebike...) are all stamped with the Mattel logo and the box are all bilingual.

Yeah, it's pretty much international. I have an Italian cart with a Mattel logo, for instance.

Mattel also did the distribution in the UK and Italy.
They didn't do a good jog over there.
