Phone rang today. A guy who got my card from EBgames needed his Xbox fixed. He’s getting DRE, with all discs. I tell him on the phone the price for a successful cleaning, and failing that, the price to have a brand new Xbox DVD drive installed. During our conversation, I mention that I’m into old stuff more than new stuff. He mentions he has a NEO GEO.
I say “Oh Yeah. I’ve heard of those. I’ve worked on a couple, but don’t own one.” I ask if he wants to sell it.

He says “Sure, How about I see if I can find it and the games that go with it in the attic, and then maybe we can do a trade”

I say, “Ok. I’ll call you back in a few hours.”.

Meanwhile, I’m getting giddy.

Turns out my new best friend needs a new DVD drive installed. I call him up and tell him the bad news. ($~80CDN plus tax)

He says, “How about I trade you my boxed NEO, with 4 games, mem card and 2 stick controllers, straight across for the DVD drive in my Xbox?”

I say, “Well, I’ll tell you what- you mentioned on the phone you were looking for a N64 right?”

“Yeah…” he says.

“Well, How about a I throw in a N64, with 1 refurbed controller and wires, but no games. It’s not often someone offers me something I need, and I have spare N64’s, so how about that?”

He says, “ You’ll do that!?”

“Why not. I have many N64’s, and I appreciate the offer of something neat I don’t have, for my personal collection”

“Done deal!” Says he.

:D :D :D

He brought it all over, and here it is. It’s all mine now. 8)

NEO GEO AES with box and packing foam (no docs)
AC adapter and RF switch, and AV cable (all original)
2 NEO Arcade Sticks

All complete Games:

Baseball Stars
Nam 1975
Blues Journey
Thrash Rally

Nothing special here games wise I believe. Nexwave says I need an adapter, so I have a hope of affording games for it.

I am a total NEO NOOBIE. That said, this unit’s getting the whole nine yards, AV mod, Debug bios, you name it. I can’t help myself, I just HAVE to brag and share. I am sooo pleased. My find of the year, I’ll be willing to bet.

It IS NOT for sale. :P NEO Non noobs, please point me to your fave resources .

I'm a Neo Geo virgin myself, and that's not a bad find there, man. Good going! Good grief!

Great God in Heaven, Steve! Nice find! Wish stuff would fall into my lap like that from time to time.

Gotta give you props for throwing in the N64 just to even things out a bit. Enjoy your new NG.

Thats supa fly! Good deal for sure!
I havent seen a NEO-GEO for years....good to hear another one is pulled from the depths of dust and being loved again.

On a side note, how difficult is it to change out a DVD drive on the Xbox? I just picked up one with a bad drive..and no HDD. I want to tackle it myself but I looked online and see everything from people straight swapping a dvd drive to others soldering and shit....

Thanks for any good words guys.

well, the main site to hit would be www.neo-geo.com

and let me tell you, that's a hell of a score, you lucky bastich.

I'm a MVS collector mainly, but I wouldn't mind an AES to compliment it :)

Excellent find. I wish I could actually find any NEO GEO stuff anywhere besides ebay. Oh well, play it to death for me. :)

Welcome to the party, pal! Good find, man. Like AG siad, neo-geo.com is the place to go. Lost of info and you can sniff out some good gaming deals there. And remember, that not all AES are triple digits....some of the classics can be scored for under $30 :)

You lucky bastard you :) That's a steal. And you get good marks on your permanent record for throwing in that N64 when he didn't even ask. Good cheer all around!

Classic games for cheap

Cyber Lip
Fatal Fury Special
League Bowling
Samurai Shodown 1-2

But many more cheap classics on MVS.

I wish Andro Dunos was a cheap classic on AES. Borrowing Robotron's copy is fun and all, but I'd rather own it, but I don't want to pay 100+ for it.

Congrats just get a phantom adapter and then you can play mvs games on your aes. (The MVS games usually are cheaper than the aes games).

sorry about the double post but you can get a phantom for about $250 from www.neostore.com or on ebay for a little cheaper.

Magician Lord is top notch.

I got a neo geo a little less than a year ago, ran into an old friend who wanted unload it. got the Neo, in box, 2 stick controllers and 6 games. I need a memory card though and I should mod the sucker up with the super mod and all that. But I dont play the system often enough to warrant the purchase of any of that... but I'm still interested in it.

Good find!

Magician Lord is top notch.

Really? O_o I'll have to try it out. I ran into a review a while back that slammed it every which way...though I can imagine the reviewer didn't have the proper perspective.

Back on topic...wow, nice system. I wished my own Neo Geo Gold System looked that good and didn't cost me that much money. I can't really bring myself to regret that purchase, but damn...I really could've made out better than I did.

Great Find! COngrats!

Reminds me of the time I got a Neo, the hookups, 2 controllers, a memory card and 2 games for $40. Unfortunately, I had NO $...I was broke. My buddy gave me the $40 to pick it up for him, so I did....god, I wish I coulda kept it...

Sigh...

I didn't like Magician Lord that much, but Cyber Lip and Nam 1975 are great Contra clones that go for cheap on the AES side.

Oh, and Omnedon, it's always sweeter when you can exchange services for goods, isn't it? :D

After doing some reading about the Svid and audio mods, it seems I'm double lucky.

My serial number is 020591 . :)

Apparently the lower serialed ones have superior RGB out. :D

I'm definitely going with the debug BIOS too. I just haven't decided if I'm gonna piggyback, or put in a socket.

I'm not modding it today or anything. I just carefully consider stuff like this before I do anything.

I'd sign up at Neo-geo.com, but my IP is banned. O_O I've never posted there, so I have no idea what's up. I e-mailed Shawn already, so hopefully he will tell me the secret handshake, or whatever it is I need. LOL

you're banned???

Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

I suggest you socket the debug bios, I'm not a fan of the piggy backing method.

Never played Nam 1975, but Cyber Lip pretty much only has good graphics. It's so darn plain and formulaic it's not funny. Also...four way aiming strikes again! (Well, for the first time, really.) The graphics, though...a lot better than most of the competition at the time. Too bad Capcom seems to have given up on arcade shooters sometime after Bionic Commando. :(

About neo-geo.com...I suppose there are good forums, but where there are forums there are people saying "OMG wtfbbq look at teh FAQ-U!" I prefer sites like nfg.2y.net...once again...that actually have stuff written out and easily accessible...that's just me, but being able to google something really beats going to a forum, pissing off a number of people by posting a repeatedly asked question, and then having to wait for an answer. Yep.

Also, nfg's site is VERY detailed on the issue. Look:

http://nfg.2y.net/games/neorgb/
and
http://nfg.2y.net/games/neorgb2/

This is a MUST READ for anybody who's interested in buying a Neo Geo. 100% fanboy free, too.
