View Full Version : A trivia game for Genesis/MD fans

Whenever you fire up a Genesis game you get a shining Sega logo screen, or one or two minor variations of it, like the one that drew itself in, or one that looked slightly different then the regular logo - as I'm sure you all know. Every so often you'd get a game that had the screen, but there was something totally unique about it. Those were the really interesting ones.

Take a look at this picture. All eight Sega logo screens used here are unique in one way or another, and sometimes just by seeing them you can identify which game it is, even if you hadn't seen the label or box.

Can you identify which game each screen came from?

I always loved how that was a constant amongst the Genesis titles... kinda like the opening couch/chalkboard gags on the Simpsons.

#4 is TJ+E?

#7 has to some 3D game like Virtua Racing, Virtual Fighter 2, or Sonic 3D Blast.

#3, wild guess, some shooter like Truxton or Thunderforce 2 or 3?

#1 is Virtua Racing (I think)

#4 is indeed TJ&E (though Panic in Funkatron is pretty similar)

#5 is Ristar.

Not sure about #7, it's not any of the 3 that portnoyd mentioned.
I know I recognise #3 aswell, but it escapes me at the moment...

Darn, I'm awful at this. I know what #2 is. I think the bubbly one is maybe a Sega CD version of Ecco...perhaps? Only played the PC version.

Very nice quiz, dude.

Thanks Ed. :)

TJ&E and Ristar have been positively identified. As far as the rest, so far you're all batting zero. Oh yeah, none of these came from Sega CD or 32X games either.

Here's a clue for the "bubbly" one - it's not related to an underwater game at all.

Gah, you've forced me to do it!

#2 is Alien Soldier. Figures a nut like you'd pick an obscure title like that [I wish I owned it :( ]!

#1 Might Be Batman & Robin. I remember the logo being quite huge and stuff.

I've seen #3 before.

#6 looks pretty generic, but not quite. :P

Is #7 a Vectorman game? Just a wild guess.

You are correct sir! *bows* Glad I was able to snag a copy. :D

#1 Might Be Batman & Robin. I remember the logo being quite huge and stuff.

Correct again!

I've seen #3 before.

#6 looks pretty generic, but not quite. :P

Exactly... here's a hint: the game it's from was obscenely expensive when it first came out.

Is #7 a Vectorman game? Just a wild guess.

BZZZT! Wrong! It's probably from the least game that you'd expect...

I'm assuming you mean #3. Still...How the heck should I know how much it went for new? ._.

I see something that almost looks like a soccer ball in the middle. Well, let's see. I wouldn't expect that in a Phantasy Star game...it's not there...check...there's lots of games with bird creatures and such...yeah...not a Sonic game, I think (knowledge isn't 100%)...not Comix Zone or a Mortal Kombat game or Kid Chameleon...

...well darn, I'm fresh out of choices. :puppydogeyesplzenlightenusomightyone:

Sorry, should have been more specific -I mean #6, not #3. #3 is obscure, but it was normal price when it came out.

Okay, I'll drop you a clue. #7 comes from a game based on an arcade game made by Sega. This arcade game came out in the early '90s, and even though it was an original title, it's very closely related to an earlier Sega arcade game. Any more info and I'll be giving it away.

I'm surprised no one's taken a stab at #8 yet.

#6 is Strider I think.

Would've posted this right on the heels of what Arnold posted, but Digit Press Forums was getting slow for a while:

Nope. You're right in thinking that Strider had some shading...but the lighter patches show up (once it's through animating) at the lower left of the letters. Same as Altered Beast, as I thought, but not the flat no-shading logo I thought before I checked this out with Gens.

I thought #6 was Phantasy Star IV, and I just checked with Gens...yup, I'm right.

#6 and #7 have been positively identified! They are Phantasy Star IV and G-LOC, respectively.

All that's left - #3 and #8. Since the toughest one, G-LOC, has already been nailed, I expect you to come up with these two in short order.

The only one I know is #5 Ristar.

The others I can't quite place my finger on.

Could #3 be from Shinobi 3? I remember some crazy stuff with the logo going on after that one's beaten. Hmm...

Dire 51
02-05-2004, 10:36 PM
No, not Shinobi 3 - but the logo does animate. That's how it ends up that way.

Is Number 8 World of Illusion or Castle of Illusion.

And what has been already identified, i'm too lazy to check

Dire 51
02-06-2004, 09:09 PM
No, that's not it either. Keep trying!

What has been identified:

1. The Adventures Of Batman & Robin
2. Alien Soldier
3. Trouble Shooter
4. ToeJam & Earl
5. Ristar
6. Phantasy Star IV: The End Of The Millenium
7. G-LOC Air Battle
8. The Ren & Stimpy Show Presents: Stimpy's Invention

BINGO!

Now, can someone ID #3? Hint: it's an sort of obscure title that was released in the U.S., but the sequel never got a U.S. release and is highly sought after.

I think I just gave it away with that...

CRV

Trouble Shooter?

Dire 51
02-07-2004, 03:34 PM
You got it!

All eight games have now been positively ID'ed! Thanks for playing!
