Had a few hours to myself after parent/teacher conferences tonight, so I decided to go for a drive and hit a GameStop-less-travelled in search of longbox Playstation titles. I did manage to find a complete Jupiter Strike for $1.99 (18 to go!), and as I was coming up to the counter, I saw the employee toss what looked like a Chrono Trigger box under the counter.
I of course asked, "Hey was that Chrono Trigger?" He said yes, and I asked to see it. He pulls a box full of SNES carts out from under the counter and retrieves CT for me. Unfortunately, the box is beat and there's no book, so at $30 I pass. But I ask about the other games in the box, and he explains that those are the ones worth 10 bucks or more, kept behind the counter to prevent theft.
I ask to see the rest, and he puts the box up on the counter. There's a boxed Super Metroid in there with 2 layers of loose carts underneath. Several Final Fantasy and MegaMan carts in the top layer, but nothing I need. I break into the bottom layer, and right away a text-heavy end label grabs my attention:
"Resale/Rental of the Game Pak is Prohibited!"
I recognized the cart as I pulled it out, and I though I had a DKC demo cart...until I saw what was waiting for me in the upper right corner of the label:

I calmly flipped it over, handed it to the employee price tag side up, and said, "I'll take that too." So with the discount, I got a Donkey Kong Country Competition Cartridge for about 11 bucks. The first DKC was the reason I got my SNES, so I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do with this one. Man-O-Man...2004 is shaping up to be a kick-ass year for finds!

Yeah, same here. I know occasionally I get overly excited. there was the time at the Thrift Store I found about 50 boxed Atari and Master System games in the glass case marked 1.50 each...and while I was first others start looking at them. I ran over the the person working there and was like...hey, can I go behind the counter, I want those games!!!!!...she looked at me odd, I chilled out, and I explained I wanted to buy them all (luckily only about 5 I already had).
Anyways, DAMN good find on that competition cart. Ive yet to get anything extra rare like that, one day though, one day!

I love how Goodwill Hunter made the title of his post "...my first competition cart!", as if he's expecting to find more. Man, I wish I was that optimistic! :P Great find.

Haha. About two weeks ago somebody walked out of a bunch of money. At least it found its way into good hands, that's all I can say :D
Makes you wonder, don't it? About...how much stuff gets thrown away and other stupid stuff. :}

First, great find.
Second, I've never played this. Is this the game they put in as a bonus mode in the GBA version?

I played through it a few times tonight...I'm not familar with the GBA version, but I can describe how this cart plays. There's no title screen, you just start at the first level with a point counter and a 5 minute countdown timer. The levels seem to match the originals, including the secrets from the original game; hidden rooms, red balloons and barrel cannons. Not sure how the scoring works, but I was getting just under 2000 points in 5 minutes, trying to pick up everything and smash the baddies. I also did a sprint and got through 6 different levels before time ran out. You've got 50 lives to play with, so you don't have to worry about dying. Once you're out of time, the screen freezes and you have to hit restart on the SNES to play again.

I did some googling, and found a couple of instances where the quantity produced was said to be 2500.

MAN THAT IS SWEEEEEEET!!!!!
I dont know if I would be able to control myself like you did though. I have found stuff thats not really even a great find (for example Silent Bomber for PS1 for 15 dollars) and I go ballistic with excitement. If I ever find anything close to that good, I would probably jump around and scream with glee until I was escorted out, after purchasing the game of course! :)
