From what I have heard the screen isn't that good get a Game Theory Admiral instead off of ebay.

I have a brand new one you can have for $105 shipped to anywhere in the US with the famicon to NES converter.

That said, they suck. The concept is good, but I've never seen one that has a clear screen. It'll turn you off in a hurry.

PM me if you still want to buy one.

I almost bought one back around 2001-2002 thinking it was an official Nintendo product. Nope, it ain't. If you must get a portable Famicom, get a Game Theory Admiral.

You'll need a convertor cart to play NES games on either system.

I'm also not sure where to buy one. Somebody recently showed an auction for a Game Theory Admiral for something like $70... :] I'd say it's worth $50 at most; I wouldn't pay more than $30 for one. Now an official Nintendo system...that'd be something else altogether.

You can plug the GTA into a TV, as long as it's the right video standard (PAL and NTSC versions exist).

This isn't specifically related to the Game Axe, but why don't you get a Game Boy Advance flash cart and then you can play NES games on your GBA?

As I understand it:

Pros: Better screen
Cons: Smaller screen

...you tell me, SNES games look pretty good on the GBA once converted.

Aren't the proportions squashed a bit on NES games when playing on the GBA, though? That's a no-no.

They appear to be compressed slightly vertically. A minority of games won't work properly (at least with the current emulation) but most games I've tried work flawlessly. I'm extremely happy with mine so far. I just with the Atari emu was ready for prime time.

Fat Simon is a no-no for me, nevermind Fatter Than Usual Mario...I thought I saw a screenshot that looked off...I'd stick to GBA games myself.

Nintendo really, REALLY needs to release a real portable Famicom and/or SNES. I wouldn't care if the portable Famicom wasn't ever to become a portable NES 'cuz the NES carts are too big...but as I've got two Famicom carts sitting around (Contra and Akumajo Densetsyuuuu) I would be happy to own one. That or a Sharp X1 Twin, really.

The Game Axe is ok.definitely worth owning. The screen is old school, though...I believe most of them are recycled, 12-year old passive matrix LCDs left over from their first run about that long ago...they started remaking the Game axe a couple of years back. The Game theory Admiral has a better screen and is smaller, kind weird how you insert the carts tho. I bought em both, cuz they both rock.

Hi Black Rose Immortal, welcome to the forum. When you get a chance please introduce yourself in this thread:

http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11

I don't own a game axe myself but I would like to get one. I just like the idea of being able to play the actual games instead of roms. But I heard good things about the GBA flash carts, and it might be more practical to go that route.

As I understand it, they were *first* made in 1995 and maybe had a second run. Could somebody clear this up? :P

Yep, and I've loved every bit of it. Probably the best is being able to play nes games anywhere there's an outlet, and not stuck in front of the same TV, same chair, etc. I've never noticed any problems during playing with the screen or sound.

Someone mentioned being able to hook it up to display on your TV. You can also plug in a second controller for 2 players. :)

Already been mentioned but here goes.

Game Axe --- Horrible Screen and the Nes games crash a lot because of the setup . Cart sticks out to far and wiggles causing crashes.

Game Theory Admiral -- Better screen but way to small. Only can play NES games with a special converter that is currently not for sale. Other converters WILL NOT WORK.....

GamePark Gp32 FLU ----Huge awesome screen, Nes emulation is awesome plus you get 20 or more other emulators, Snes emulation is now much nearer to perfection. CON's----Price is about $270 with a 128m SM card.

GBA SP with 256 Flash ---- Best bet. Can hold about 50 NES games and emulation is spot on ..Screen is nice and sound is nice.

I have them all and have played with them all for hundreds of hours. And I have to say that the GBA w/Flash card or the GamePark GP32 are probably the best bets .....Avoid the GameAxe and Game Theory Admiral.

Wow, Jon, lots of info here. However, a 256mb flash can hold a lot more games than 50. I estimate you could fit at least 100 on a 256mb. I could test that this weekend, but I have approximately 60 and it takes up 1/3 of my 256mb card as it is.

I love my flash cart.

You're right .... I had some other stuff on my card and forgot about it. I think around 150 would be right. Sorry for the misinformation. :embarrassed:

They sell for around $100 for the 256 Flash Card.

They use a special cart that looks like a GBA Cart and fits in the GBA Cart Slot.

I got mine from http://www.mwelectronics.com/ . They ship fast and are highly recommended.

There are 2 different major competing brands , the EZ-Flash Advance 256Mb and the Flash2Advance 256Mb . But I and most others here agree that the EZ-Flash Advance 256Mb is the better and easier to use one (plus it has a built in clock for the games that need it).

I'd rather have one that used SmartMedia and didn't come WITH one. I already have the cards, and would rather not have to use another kind of card. And save money.
