I have a lot of stuff to share from our trip to the bay area last weekend, but this one just can't wait.
Some of you may know Mike, he's one of the brainiac gamers at Digital Eclipse, the folks that have brought so many great retro titles to modern systems. I got to spend some time at Mike's place last weekend (thanks again, Mike!) where I was astounded to find that he's been hiding his Room of Doom from us. QUITE LITERALLY.
You see, Mike's Room is below his house, accessible via a trapdoor and ladder! If you can make the treacherous climb you find yourself smack dab in the middle of a truly classic collection, chock full of old, new, and weird gamestuff. In an adjoining room (sadly not shown in my pictures), about a dozen classic arcade machines.
Click the stairway to descend! This unique set-up is worth checking out.

Thats definately one of the more unique entries to a room of doom I've seen, it almost has a clubhouse kinda feel. Man what a ton of stuff crammed in there! What is holding all those controllers up? He hould try one of those electronic rotating necktie racks for them ! :D

Cool room...thats crazy about it being under a trap door. Thats a lot of stuff in such a small area. Is it bigger than the pics make it seem? BTW, thats one hell of a tangled wire mess he's got there. :eek 2:

WOW. Talk about euphoria and claustrophobia all wrapped up into one!
What's up with that last picture of all the controllers in wire hell?
VERY impressive!!!

Heh, I kept glancing at the topic title and thinking, "Mike Ditka's Room of Doom." While that certainly would be a room of doom and pain, the picture of the staircase leading down erased any doubts from my mind. Great use of pyschology there, Joe! :D
I like how this fellow has his controllers arranged...I can't see it, but it looks like the controller hangs from a bar or peghole that you can slide stuff into. Very clever!
Also, the dude in the back of picture 10...can I keep him? :D j/k
Or at least his DP shirt :)

That dude is John Haride and what was he looking at? That is the best room of doom I have seen because of all the stuff that is crammed into such a small space.

Hey, you know these folks! :D Who's the guy with the black Invaders hat, then?
Oh yeah, just noticed that the controllers are visible in that picture, too...wonder how they stay up there? Must be tied somewhere.

Wow! Thanks Joe! I like how you used the ladder for the link! It's great to be part of the "Room of Doom" family, and I had a GREAT time hanging out with Joe, John, Ian, Larry and Chris. It was a blast. Basically beers and rifling through my stacks o'crap. You see, I've amassed this thing over the years as people have given me protos, trinkets, etc. Being in the games biz in the Bay Area means you get some cool stuff, usually because someone says "I gotta get rid of this crap I have in my garage."
As for how it gets down the ladder, I have an alternate route into the room that will remain a secret. :) There was no way I was going to get that Star Wars sit down in there otherwise!
Thanks for the nice comments! You're all welcome for a visit if you come to the Bay Area!

Mike, that's one hell of a room. I can't ever show this to my wife - she wants to do the trap door thing with my game room someday if we ever expand our house. Actually, I think she just wants to dig a hole and put me in it, and these pictures would make that idea even more appealing! LOL
Mmmmmm...vintage games and action figures all in the same space. Now THAT'S a game room after my own heart! Vive la adolescence! :D

Very nice room! One question can you find any thing? I looks very unorganized. Still I would love to have all that stuff.

Heh, cool seeing Stella At 20 in there...
BTW, what is the Space Fighter cart (next to the Virtual Boy in this pic (http://www.videogamearchive.com/gameroom/mikemika04.jpg)) for? Or is it a handheld? I can't quite place it...

RE: Cleaning - Well, there's not enough room for dirt! (Dirt Devil does it)
RE: Organization - It gets better all of the time, and I can find most things 90% of the time. They are in general "zones."
RE: Star Fighter - It's a Japanese Jaguar Game - Er, not at all. You were right, it's a handheld. :P

lol!
it's almost like what would be in an alternate universe where gamers were persecuted and jailed.. forcing the hidden game room! ^^;

Even where it's in the Ultimate gameroom gallery is hidden! It's two past the first page when going in reverse, instead of one page back where anything this new should be. x_x
If I hadn't recently gotten DSL and decided to go back through the gallery, I would've never known about this. I guess I should take a look at the forum more often...
Edit: As soon as I posted this more stuff was added to the gallery, and now it's 3 pages back.

See, the ultimate game room galleries transcend time and space. There is no "forward" or "back". Only "here" and "there". The only thing I did is make it easier to see them ALL by clicking left or right from the page you're currently looking at.
For Mike Mika's stuff specifically all you have to do is click the link at the top of this thread!

Problem is I wasn't checking the forums very often (everybody gets disenchanted once in a while), and did not know about his collection until I went through the 'Ultimate Gamerooms'. I found his collection went 'wow', hit the forums, search, "Mike Mika" and up pops this thread.
