Am I still drunk from last night? This can't be true?
Well, there goes my hope of ever seeing another Marvel vs. Capcom 2-d fighter.
So, now who do we have on the EA side? The Sims? Oh joy.. All I have to say is that they better not start to bastardize some of their old classics in this new series.

My goodness...Marvel already was weak enough with Marvel vs. Capcom...but I'm expecting EA (perhaps wrongly...) to come up with a good game to support this. Wait and see. I never really liked Marvel vs. Capcom, so this is just another change for me. Just as long as it doesn't take any market share away from Sega + Sammy + Playmore...
Now, what sort of characters would EA be able to leverage (imagine EA loading a bunch of characters on one end of a lever to lift some large block, heh heh) for such a game, anyhow?

I like the Crapcom vs games especially XvSF. I thought MvC was pretty good too, and MvC2 was kinda fun just to pull off 3 billion hit combos.
I bet John Madden will be a powerhouse grappler in this game. LOL
Give the god damn license back to Crapcom, at least they know what they are doing with a fighter.
And I wanted to see Marvel vs DC...

Booooooooooooooooooooooooo!
What a shame. It probably won't be in 2D, with EA in control. Screw it.

I think this opens up a huge new world of fighting games.
Capcom vs. CyberTiger Woods ("Four on Fore action")
Capcom vs. John Madden
Capcom vs. The Sims
Capcom vs. M.U.L.E. (Kicks A.S.S.)
Capcom vs. Bard's Tale
Capcom vs. Archon
Capcom vs. Chessmaster (10 minute limit per attack)
Capcom vs. Marble Madness (Watch your balls!)
Capcom vs. Pinball Construction Set (ok that's just silly)
... and the ultimate showdown:
Capcom vs. Battle Chess!

Capcom vs. M.U.L.E. (Kicks A.S.S.)!
I hope they at least make the Mountain Wampus as an unlockable!
My Dream Team: Harry Potter, Lord British and the fat guy from Road Rash.
Seriously, where they hell are they seiously going to get their characters from? SSX? Sled Storm? I doubt they are going to be able to use any of their licenses from other companies, like James Bond, etc.
I guarantee it won't be 2-d. It will be a 3-d fighting game on par with Street Fighter EX 3... if they're lucky. Don't forget about the years of experience EA has in making fighting games... does Mail Order Monsters count?
This has to be a cash grab for Marvel. There's no explaining it otherwise.

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL
... why am I laughing so much? It keeps me from crying. :(
They CAN'T be serious! I'll confess and say that EA isn't among my top ten video game producers... hell, they aren't even in my top 25! A major fighting game producer versus a company that has gained their primary fame through sports games... I won't deny that SSX was good, but I seriously have a difficult time picturing Mac beating Guile to death with a snowboard! x_x
I think a Capcom vs. Namco crossover wouldn't be a bad idea... Kazuya vs. Akuma, THE dream match. Awwww, yeah. 8-)

Well the article says that EA is going to make new fighting games with all new characters. I'm assuming that they won't use any old characters at all (maybe a few as unlockables). I like the Marvel vs Capcom games so I'm kinda dissapointed. But who knows, it might be good, right?

could it be:
Marvel VS Def Jam Vendetta?
It's an EA fighting game.....a pretty good one too
and NO; it's no wrestling game for me
but won't be 2D though which makes me sad

I havent read any game details, seen any preview pics, but this is a fucking joke. Two companies I loved in my youth are bumping uglies in a disgusting orgy of corporate pimpery. Marvel vs Capcom? Cool because Capcom already did Marvel fighters and it was the natural eveolution. Marvel vs DC? Wouldve made sence and fans would eat it up. But who the fuck wanted -- or imagined- this? Represents everything wrong with modern gaming. I may be jumping the gun, but f-it.

I just hope they decide to bring back Polterguy. He was the only EA character I ever liked. Other than that the idea is just horrible, although if Madden appeared I couldnt help but choose him for the humor value. He not only fight with his hands and maybe throw footballs, but also pack a serious arsenal of Ace power tools!
I'm thinking TOO much about this.
.... shoot me.

I cannot help but say it again.
Dangit, if they're going to make a fighting game, why not make something New and Original?

They could make
Marvel Vs Ultima Online
With matches like:
Hulk vs BiZcUtF4n
Spiderman Vs f0rg3P1mp
Daredevil vs l33tp4ntZ
Maybe they could have John madden give blow by blow commentary on the fights.
John Madden says "OUCH! That will leave a mark! well thats why you should not yell out the name of your attack before you use it."

I guarantee that EA's "original" characters will be completely lame. In EA's style, they will be the standard fighting game fare (y'know, the karate guy who is just looking for strong opponents, the karate guy's rival, the wrestler/grappler, the army guy, a funky black guy, the token female character, etc), but they'll be suped up to appeal to kids... this means you'll have shitty "extreme" characters with attitudes. Great. The only positive thing I can see coming out of EA is that their characters won't have such a Japanese slant as Capcom and SNK's characters, and we shouldn't have to worry about engrish dialog.
Why on earth they even think they can come up with characters that can rival Marvel's is beyond me. I can't possible imagine how "Marvel vs. EA" would be at all better than a fighting game with JUST Marvel characters. The EA characters will just dilute this game.
Since this is EA we're talking about, why don't they just license the DC comics as well and make Marvel Vs. DC already? Everyone has been waiting for this for years, and it would sell like hotcakes (I'm not sure what the profit margin is on hotcakes, but I'm guessing it's pretty good).
However, I'd love to have Tie Domi beat the crap out of Tiger Woods.

I actually liked Marvel vs. Capcom and XMen vs Street Fighter, but then again I really like Street Fighter and I like Marvel OK. But - since I pretty much despise EA and have zero faith that they can produce a quality product in a field that they've never done anything with (fighting games), and since Marvel isn't that big of a draw...and since what was great about Marvel vs. Capcom was largely Capcom's art and fighting styles - I predict (and am gleefully hoping for) a total bomb.
EA has Havoc, and that's about all they have going for them.

Capcom still has the license to the marvel characters. They're just done with the marvel vs capcom series. I do know, however, that they've been trying to get the licenses to the DC characters for a Marvel vs DC vs Capcom game, but I don't know how thats goin.

Yeah, I was just about to pipe up. Capcom did renew its licese with Marvel. It wasn't and exclusive deal though. Like the license with Acclaim and Marvel states that Acclaim can make games using like 30 Marvel characters at the same time Capcom has liscense to EVERY Marvel charater ever made.
So while Acclaim can use Beast and Spidey and what have you, Capcom is releasing a new game with Beta Ray Bill, the Shadow King, and Radical Rex.
This isn't the end of Capcom and Marvel. But I do have to agree, this freaking sucks.

I love pretty much all capcom games, and MVC's, but don't know what EA is going to do. I myself think their a great company with great games (i don't buy their games though, I just play them, I do own SSX3 though!!!) but how in the hell are they going to come up with good characters? Who knows though, maybe they will.

I still think it would be cool if Capcom would release a fighting game with Scrooge McDuck from the old Ducktales game as a playable character. Surely it is the next logical step after Kingdom Hearts.

they've been trying to get the licenses to the DC characters for a Marvel vs DC vs Capcom game, but I don't know how thats goin.
I hope if they finally get to do it, that it stays 2D... someone I have a feeling that a 3D Marvel vs DC would completely suck for some reason.

IMO, most 3D fighters suck.
I like good old 2D, hand-drawn sprites, with Capcom or SNK style gameplay.
I was also really hoping to see MvC3, 'cuz there are a lot more Marvel characters I would have liked to see added. Maybe we will still see it, but I have no interest in this Marvel vs. EA. I don't have any interest in a Marvel vs. DC, either.
While we're on the topic, anyone remember hearing rumors a while back about a possible Capcom vs. AIC game? AIC, if you don't know, is the anime studio responsible for such shows as Tenchi Muyo and El-Hazard, etc.
