Hi all,
Well, I've been away from the forums for quite a while but now I've got broadband here in my little house in Kyoto. I'm looking for a way to pick up some extra cash here and there, and I'm thinking that I'm in the perfect position to be a middleman for those looking to buy Japanese games, systems, whatever. There's a huge selection in Osaka (a quick train ride away), but I don't want to start buying stuff and speculating on whether it'll sell on eBay or not.
I'd also rather deal with the higher class of people here on the DP forums. :)
So, here's a general idea of what kind of stuff I can get my hands on and what it'd end up costing you - enough so that I am making a profit but probably cheaper than they'd go for on eBay. If you could find any on eBay, that is.
Dedicated "Pong" systems - the Nintendo Color TV Game 6 and 15 (around $100 each, depending on condition/completeness), Epoch's TV Vader (Space Invaders) or TV Baseball.
Early console systems - Sega Mark III (just like the one owned by Supercade author Van Burnham) or SG-1000 II (between $100 and $150 each depending on condition/completeness), Epoch's Cassette Vision or CV Jr (the first Japanese programmable), Bandai Intellivision ($200+), and many more.
Famicom - pretty much any game loose or boxed depending on availability. Disk Systems that have been checked and worked when the store traded them in - $100 without box, more with. AC adapter seperate, around $10 with purchase of system would be fine. Disk games - around $30 for Zelda or Mario 2, others lower or higher. Robot, games, Family Trainer (Power Pad), generally $150 for each piece of hardware with box and more for complete games.
Neo-classic systems - PC Engine, Mega Drive, Neo Geo hardware and software are generally easy to find. Super Grafx system about $150 with box, PC Engine Duo, Duo-R, or Duo-RX between $250 and $400 complete.
Game music CDs - a few rare ones. Ask me about availability.
And that's about it. Of course, all I've listed here isn't the full extent of what's available, so just give me an email - chrisk2018@aol.com - if there's anything specific you're looking for. Generally, I'd want PayPal as soon as we worked out price so I'd have the money to go buy you what you want.
And if you think the prices are high, well, that's a function of most used-game sales here in Japan being through specialty 'retro games' stores in the city. Can't really do any better without scouring flea markets and coming up empty most of the time anyway.
