I picked both of these up for $20 each, and might leave them sealed LOL

My 'originals' I purchased for $30 used each, and they have some scratches on them, but I figure if they ever skip I will open up the reissues, if not, one day I might sell them and I should at least get my money back, being that they are sealed. That being said...

did they change anything? For better or worse? Loading times improved? I noticed the FFA back cover doesn't list the "bonus" music disc, so I wonder if that was removed (though it still says "Collectors Edition" or whatever on the front cover..).

If they are EXACTLY the same or even better, and someone wants to buy the originals, I have them. The scratches are minor, but I am anal retentive about most things and one small surface scratch makes me want to buy the game over x_x So pretty much, any used game freaks me out x_x

This was possibly addressed before, so provide a link if that's the case (I haven't "kept up" with the board recently).

Correct.

I don't think anything was changed though, I'm pretty sure they're carbon copies of the original releases, except with a health dose of ugly added to the cover.

An interesting note...

There are actually 3 versions of each game:

Final Fantasy Anthology with Squaresoft Logo, non GH
Final Fantasy Anthology with Square Enix Logo, non GH
Final Fantasy Anthology GH version with Square Enix Logo

Final Fantasy Chronicles with Square Enix Logo, non GH
Final Fantasy Chronicles with Square Enix Logo, non GH
Final Fantasy Chronicles GH version with Square Enix Logo

I was lucky enough to find 4 copies of the original, still sealed today :) !

I recently got myself a copy of FFA (Greatest Hits ed) and it doesn't include the bonus music CD.

Now, finding the other Square Enix GH titles will be a lot harder around these parts. I made several calls and no one has them (Xenogears, Vanguard Story...). Looks like I may go directly through Square Enix's website, but shipping to Canada would be prohibitive (shipping via courier rather than the USPS).

Are they really worth it, or not? Also, I think that it's almost more economical for me to buy both titles off Square Enix's site than only one title.

I heard the load times are generally awful.

I got lucky finding Xenogears about a year ago myself. I still need a new copy of FFC since the copy a friend gave me has all cracks in the front.

Hell, I couldn't even find them anywhere in NJ. I was dying to play Xenogears so I ordered it from this site: http://www.videogamedeals.com/. I know that they have a flat rate shipping of 3.99 but I'm not sure if thats to the US only. Anyway, I got my game pretty quickly and have been loving every minute of it. :D Of course the minute I recieve it in the mail, 2 copies showed up used at my local Gamestop. :hmm:

That would be cheaper than using Square Enix's service.

I wonder why videogame companies use such expensive shipping options to Canada when they could offer slower but cheaper alternatives?

I don't care if my games take a week to get to me instead of 2 days, not if it makes a whole lot difference in the total price paid for said games.

Just for the record, there ISN'T any slower/cheaper mothed for small items to canada. It's air mail or nothing really. And if they ship UPS only, then the price is gonna be really high no matter what.

REALLY drives me nuts when canada assumes it's the same country as U.S....

Turn on ps2 fast load and load times barely noticable.

I have the original SquareSoft Anthology. But now I feel I must complete the set and get the other two versions.... shit. :embarrassed:

The load times for FF6 and CT are a LITTLE bad but it's really NOT that bad -- a couple seconds. FF5 and FF4 are just about perfect with that. And I'm glad I bought them as soon as they came out. :)

Yeah, trying to ship across the border pretty much sucks.

Xenogears and Vagrant Story are both now GH too, so don't pay more than 20 bucks for them! They're widely available online for under that price.

I bought Vagrant Story (original, not GH) new at Toys R Us in the fall, for $20 or $30, I don't remember. It was in a dual-cd case, unlike the reissue. I don't care about demo discs that much, but I'm not one to complain, since I did get it new. I paid $40 for Xenogears used, it's almost in mint condition, just a very small (centimter) long circular scratch near the end of the first disc, which I didn't know was even there or I wouldn't have paid $40 for it (noticed it spinning it around under the light at home). Other than that, both discs would be perfect. This is just "too" close to mint that I don't want to buy the reissue LOL

@sylentwulf: I don't assume that shipping to Canada is exactly the same than shipping to the US. But when a gaming company uses only a courier service (such as UPS or FedEx) without even having the option for USPS/Canada Post shipping, that irks me. There's a difference between paying $10 for shipping with USPS and paying $26 for using FedEx. As I said above, I don't mind waiting for a few more days. I suppose they opt for the courier service for the speed and for the tracking number, but nevertheless I want some alternatives! I'm not talking about companies that ship via courier only, whether to Canada or the US, but rather about those who use the USPS within the United States but won't use it to ship to Canada.

For example, MacSoft is a lot more reasonable in their shipping charges to Canada than Square Enix and Aspyr are. I know because I recently bought the Mac version of Baldur's Gate II from them and they shipped it via USPS. And it didn't take so long that it got tedious either.
