This came up in discussion with a friend of mine when we saw a girl wearing a Donkey Kong baseball cap tonight. In Donkey Kong, goes the King Kong route and kidnaps Mario's girl. In DK Jr, Mario gets ultimate payback by caging DK and DK, Jr comes to the rescue. Is this where it ended between Mario/DK, or did their "saga" unfold across a few more games?

Heh. Good question.

Wasn't there supposed to be a third DK game where DK is the main character and has to free his son from Mario?

Let's just say Mario got his own adventures and DK retired while Jr. got his own adventures too.

Or something.

I figured Donkey Kong hired all those Koopas to get Mario.

Mario and Donkey Kong became friends and started having go-kart races. :)

Jeez, I thought you guys would all know DK got put away for kiddie porn. That princess may have been hot, but she was only 16 bro, and that's illegal. He kidnapped her... what else would happen?

Now Mario saves her and is now her hero, so they hook up, and not shit happens to Mario, hes like 35 and she's 16. Hell he even becomes the star of the show. How messed up is that?

No. I still think she's a bit younger than 16.

Mario/Ron Jeremy looks pretty eeeeevil in that pic. LOL LOL LOL

I think their feud ended at the end of DK for the Gameboy. See that photo in the ending? They all look pretty friendly there. I guess some evil influence cocked up DK's brain, but that last bump on the head snapped him out of it, and he gained 103 I.Q. points. I dunno for sure, but I bet there are many more interesting theories.

Their rivalry is reignited in the upcoming "Mario and Donkey Kong" for the GBA.

Thanks for the linakge. But lol @ the storyline!

The story line has Donkey Kong stealing Mario's latest creation -- Mario dolls -- when the angry ape learns of the plumber's new toy factory. After all their time together, Mario apparently never considered making a Donkey Kong doll, thus renewing the heated rivalry between the two. Now Mario must run and jump throughout the toy factory to recover as many of the dolls as he can.

In an era of GTA ripoffs, God bless Nintendo and their innocent ways.

Haha.. but, no. Sorry. Close buy no guitar. ;)

While yes, the image has been used on your trunk, it was also used many places other than that.

The snapshot in question is from a school folder bought from Jamesway back in 1989.

I have another featuring a rather artsy form of drawing with Mario holding am ushroom jumping out of the TV while taken from the first person view of the player who is playing with an NES Advantage. Meanwhile, Hammer Bros, Goombas, Bullet Bills and Bowser come after him. That one portrays him as a nicer man. Less evil look in his eyes. (That one was made in 1988. So Mario musta snapped at one point.)

Is this game still in the works? I remember they announced it around the same time they announced Mario & Luigi, and I was very excited about it! I absolutely loved the Gameboy version of Donkey Kong, and I think this game would kick large amounts of ass.

However, I haven't heard any information about it since then :(

About the GBA Mario & Donkey Kong game, at last I heard it is still in development. However, it has undergone a name change.

Oh, I have that pic with the little girl princess! It's on a trading card.

Recently I was looking over my wishlist in the user pages section, and I noticed two game cancellations which I had never previously heard about from you guys. Animal Crossing 2 for GameCube and Donkey Kong Plus for Game Boy Advance both had small red words indicating that they had been cancelled. Since when? I still see no information on your site about it, so please tell me it was just a little mistake.

It's another example of us streamlining the list of games in our database. Donkey Kong Plus should have been flagged as "CANCELLED" back when Nintendo announced Mario and Donkey Kong back at E32003. It's only now that we got around to cancelling it in our database.

-- Craig

If so, it seems that they're confirming that the name was changed TO Mario & Donkey Kong, and although they don't say that the game has been cancelled, they don't really say anything at all. Nintendo might have cancelled it and just not told them yet.

Ah, I see. My bad. Though, I suppose Craig Harris should be counted as an authoritative source in these matters.

Man, if they could make a mario game with graphics that look like that old school folder/trunk thing, that could truly put life back into the mario games.

Excellent... I guess Nintendo will start an advertising campaign for it pretty soon then.
