I know we have a lot of shooters fan on here, and there's probaly a bunch of people who are going to pcik this up when it comes out in early April. I just figured I'd pass this on to you guys. :)

When I was at my local EB a couple days ago, I chatting with the manager there, who is a really nice guy and knows me by name. I picked up Tron 2.0 now that the price is $20 and at the counter I asked to put a pre-order on Romance of the Three Kingdoms IX, because a 'cult' game like that may not be promised to come in unless I reserve a copy. He responded "Good idea, and I'd suggest doing one for Gradius V also." (he knew I was going to get that one because we talked about it and Ikaruga couple weeks ago.)

"Why is that?" I asked in response.

"We're not expecting it to do very well. You know the sad state of afairs that shooters are in. We're only getting in one batch on release day for pre-orders and no other copies for a week, and eve then I don't expect more then a few dozen. Same thing happened with R-Type Final." (Sure enough, there was none in the store either.)

So I put a pre-order down on that one also.

Just FYI. :D

I want to pickup R-Type final, and at $30 it's really hard to pass up... but damn, I really wish I could buy all th new games you do man! Seems like you've always got a preorder on something, haha.

Well, just to be clear, I DID'NT get, nor do I want, R-Type. :)

Never been a huge fan of that series. Not sure why, just naver apealed to me. Gradius holds a special place in my heart, though. I was just mentioning R-Type to give a example.

And I really don't think I buy that many games....between now and the end of April I plan to get three GameCube games, a GBA game, and two PS2 games. That's not that much. And I usually get the money for the games by selling older games on Amazon. ;)

Also, I'm single and even though I'm in debt (per my note on off topic) I make enough to set aside a little money each month for games. Wht does'nt get spent carries over. (This was the first game buy I had made in two months.)

Besides, if I hate the game, it goes right up for sale on Amazon and I get almost all my money back for it. Hence why I'm not worried about getting Gradius V. :D

Ahh, not a collector, I thought you were. Makes more sense now ;)

And I've never really been a fan of shooters in general, but R-Type Final is getting some great reviews and it's already a budget title, so the savvy gamer inside is telling me to own it.

No, Sir! I'm a gamer, not a collector. I thoguht everyone knew that by now. :D

Why do I hang around, you ask? Well, the talk here is very good, the people are mature and polite, and it's cool to talk about video games while killing time at work wishing you could go home and go to bed. ;)

I am VERY harsh with my games. My rule of thumb is "If I don't play it in 12 months, it gets SOLD!" Many games have passed through my hands, but I only have about a dozen or so games each for the PS2, PS1, GBA, and GC that are 'keepers' in my book.

All those games I mentioned eariler I DO plan to buy new, but in many other cases I wait till used. As long as I cap myself at about $50 a month in game buying, I'm fine. January through April is $200, which is close enough by itself to buy what I want.

(And I just hold off on buying history books I want..... LOL )

just a warning:
I heard/read that it suffers from H-E-A-V-Y slowdowns (actually the worst slowdowns in any shmup EVER...think of SNES "Super R-type" but worse)

Read it here:

Yes, there's slowdown in R-Type Final, but not incredible amounts of it. The only time I've ever noticed slowdown to a crazy extent is at one point in level 3 where a mech comes out, right before that there's crazy stuf happening in the background. If you're charging your laser with a force at 100% dose, yeah, it slows down. In general though slowdown is negligable and more often then not, I don't notice it's happened.

Seriously though, Gradius V will have a hard time being more fun then RTF.

One way or another, I will have both of these games. In fact, I'm hoping to snag R-Type Final today. Gradius V I will get the day it's released, come hell or high water - just you watch.

Although Im loving R-type Final, I saw the screen shots to Gradius V and they look steller. The visuals in Gradius, i must say, are nicer than R-type final. But I guess I'll have to wait for the release to give a proper review.

I snagged R-Type Final - :D - and preordered Gradius V. However, Gamestop has it listed as coming out in JULY! Does anyone have any idea what the actual release date is?

JULY?!?!? :bullshit:

Dire, have you ever believed in the integrity of Gamestop's knowledge? Nuff said. :P

I'm actually receiving several release dates from various sources... I've seen the fifth of April, the fifth of March, the eighteenth of February... but nothing as so far as July. It's still inconclusive, but I'd say that July is out of the question.

At least, it had better be. I'm not waiting until school's over to play this.

Both EB and GameFAQ claim April 5th, and that's what I was also told in person there.

No, I can't say that I do believe it - I even told them as much - but with so many conflicting release dates floating around, I felt it would be best to check.
