View Full Version : DP Collector Lists... IMPORTANT!

For our friends at the Retrogaming Roundtable, just a quick heads up. We're getting very close to announcing the new book, "Digital Press Collector's Guide: Advance", the guide you've heard a thing or two about if you've been hanging around these forums for any amount of time. The book will cover systems from the 16-bit "era" to present, including everything from Sega Genesis to Dreamcast and PlayStation.
Here's the rub.
If you look at the lists page http://www.digitpress.com/lists.htm you'll see that all of the systems from our previous book are lists ONLY, no rarities, details about the games, etc. This is all contained in the book. Well for the launch of this new book, the same will happen. So, essentially, all of the lists will become just that - lists.
So the "heads up", as it were, is to GRAB EM NOW before they're pulled. While there isn't a whole lot of detail in these lists, and many have not been updated in quite some time (also intentional, sorry), there's still a ton of information there that could come in handy that won't be available there in the next week or so.
Before anyone gets on my case about taking away something that used to be free, save it. We are ALSO working on a database projet that will put the entire DP database online at your disposal, completely free of charge. It's a much different presentation, not really very good for travelling as the book and lists are today, but terrific for quick reference while you're online. We're trying to make everyone happy.
Hope this advance notice gives you enough time to grab the lists that you can use now, and we hope you'll plunk down some cash for the real deal book in September too!
Game on, brothers and sisters.

Is it pulled already? That link is dead

Looks like I gave you the wrong link! Use the "rarity lists" link at the top of the forums or on the left if you're viewing through the DP main site.

I have some impending CGE site things to take care of but if I have time I'll set up a pre-order page this weekend. I'm pretty excited about this one as well since it's a refreshing change of pace from the consoles we've covered for so many years.
As always, info will be here as soon as it is available.

YAY! I've been waiting for this book...how big is it going to be? Any pricing speculations?
Anyways, as for the lists, I have most saved on my computer already, I need to go get what I dont have though. I seen this coming, it was only common sense! The book goes in more depth though, I prefer to have it over the PDF files anyday!

I'm 95% sure we'll be targeting the same size as the first book, 512 pages. If we come up short I'll actually be HAPPY - I'd like to put more photographs and scans into this edition.
If the size holds true, the price will as well: $25 shipped to USA. I'd like to incent pre-orders with something too, I'll come up with something between now and pre-order time :)

Sounds good to me! If you don't mind I'll throw an idea your way...a discount if your pre-order both the guide and a subscription to Manci Games magazine. :D I know Manci isn't yours but you and them could work something out Im sure! Oh well....just an idea, I know whatever you come up with will kick ass. You can count me down for an order.

I'd say a 12 months of Janice calendar would be a great incentive for some of us cheapskates (thanks Scott) to fork over the $25 for it.
BTW, I will finally be getting my DPGuide ordered in the next few days, maybe you could hook a brudda up, Joe, if you know what I mean...

My plans are to keep the new guide EXACTLY the same size, and the same 2002 rates, as the previous book. See? There's no such thing as inflation 'round here!

I'm going to pull everything that would potentially be in the book.
Once everything is in I'll see what kind of space I've got, I won't know for sure what will be in or out import-wise, until that final construction phase. Either way, all of the team's research will be included in the web-based database tool. Nothing ever goes to waste around here!

If I can make a request: the csv file you provided for Genesis is *fantastic* (I love having rarity lists on my PDA - I've got 2600, NES, N64, DC, PS, and Genesis on there now). If possible, can you provide the lists as csvs as well? I know I'm not the only die hard who will manually enter rarity values to get something on the ole' PDA.

As planned, this activity has been completed. We hope to announce the new book this weekend!
As a concession to everyone, I've added the rarity to all of the lists (even the classic game systems) as well as converted everything over to HTML so it fits better (and runs faster) with your browser.
Hope this trade-off is enough to hold everyone over :)

I'm kind of confused about some of the lists. Like the C64 list. The C64 page says that that is a "complete checklist of all US-released titles." Aren't there thousands upon thousands of US-released titles for the C64?

Good news, I'll order the book for sure. (which reminds me that I still didn't buy the DP collectors guide, I'll order it today)
Just for clarification, there won't be release dates in the new book? I wouldn't care about rarity ratings, pricing, short comments, but to include release dates (maybe just the year) would be incredibly helpful.

Thanks for pointing that out, it's kind of a generic descirption where it should be very specific in some cases. For computer-based consoles we do not include cassette or diskette media, it's just too huge for our current team. So what you're seeing here (as well as with VIC-20, PC Jr., TI-99, Aquarius, etc) are "all game cartridges" released for that system.
If anyone spots anything else that looks particularly weird, please let me know. I built the HTML generator in Access myself, an undertaking sure to have a few "hiccups".

Everywhere we CAN verify the release date, we include it. Some systems (especially Nintendo's, who have this readily available) are right down to the day, others are to the year. I'd say more than half of our database has release dates and more than 75% of the "Advance Edition" includes this information.

Are some of those lists going to be finalized for the book? I know some of those lists listed "COMPLETE" whereas some listed that they are still being worked on. I didn't save any of those (wish I did, now), but I am definitely curious to see if some of the lists (like the N64) are complete now.

They'll all be complete - the section editors are currently researching info for the descriptive stuff and we're all working with the pricing and rarity. Even the most recent PDF files weren't completely up to date, though the actual LISTINGS themselves (minus the genres and rarity ratings) that you see out there now should be.

I only just noticed this so is that only if you contributed 25 games screenshots or 25 games worth of information? Just wondering if the PAL Saturn list I'm working on counts?
Oh and Joe I need the .xls files you mailed resent in a .zip or .rar file if possible my e-mail shows the .xls files as a garbled mass of text on the e-mail instead of an attachment I can download so I've not been able to check them out yet.

Hello RichD,
First off, thank you so much for all the time you took with your Game Gear post. I truly appreciate it and it helps me BIG time in making the most complete Game Gear section possible. I am having a blast putting together the Game Gear section, I LOVE it so much :D It is really great to see other gamers, such as your self, supporting the Game Gear.
If there is ANY thing at all "special" that you would like me to do for the Game Gear section, please feel free to ask. I can tell you right now, that the Game Gear section is gonna have some kick ass info on the Game Gear and games, that is sure to please any Game Gear fan. Forgive my arrogance, but it is true.
Once again, I truly thank you for all the time you took with gathering the Game Gear info and posting it here. Take Care :D :D :D
Game ON,
