either they got the wrong screenshots on the box, or it's a Sega in Nintendo's clothing.

i recognize some of the screenshots on the back as famicom games, so it's definitely one of those look-alike famiclones.

Looks like a Famicon to me. From the box I am guessing a famiclone. The lister just seems to be an idiot to me.

Well I can definitely recognise a number of SEGA Master System game screenshots from the back of the box:
Space harrier, Bank Panic, unknown, unknown, F-16 fighting falcon, unknown, Spy Vs Spy, unknown
Fantasy Zone, Rocky, unknown, unknown, unknown, Pro Wrestling, unknown, unknown.
Unknown (could be ANY football game, really), unknown, unknown

even the guy selling it doesn't know what the hell it is

It looks as though it takes the famicom style cartridges though the screenshots on the box include Space Harrier, Choplifter, MetroCross and Galaxy so I can't say for sure which system they're from originally

people say "Famicon" because if you translate the kana to romanji it comes out "Fa-mi-co-n". There is no single-m character in japanese, only m paired with vowels.

ma mi mu me mo... n.

Adam's right, but... Since Famicon is short for "Family Computer", or "f(u)amari konpyuutaa" or so in Japanese, I have to point out something... When the syllable "n" abuts a "b-" or "p-" syllable, the "n" is often pronounced "m" in combination.

In other words, "Famicom" could be thought of as a more proper phonetization than "Famicon", especially since it gives us a clue as to the source of the English words it was borrowed from in the first place. I'm not really taking sides here, but if you'd rather there be "n" than the "m", shouldn't you spell it "Famikon" to be closer to the Japanese syllabary?
