NES Club - Final Opinions?

Here are my ideas for the NES Club. I got approval from the boss to do it. Feel free to post your opinions as this isn’t carved in stone.

A different member every week would choose a game that everyone in the group would play, and then give their opinions of the experience. This can be any NES game, it doesn’t necessarily have to be rare or unknown. If someone wants to submit SMB1 as the game, so be it. It's as fun now as it was then. What a person posts is up to them, but it may include:


Opinion: What did you like and dislike? Was it as good as you remembered? How does the game compare to arcade or other system if applicable?
Platform: Was it played on NES, emulated on PC, GBA, etc?
Progress: How far did you get in the game?

Also, the member who chose the game could propose a challenge or unique agenda. For example, how far can you get in a SMB1 in 5 minutes? Can you finish Megaman1 by beating the enemies in a certain order, which is different from the preferred path? How many levels deep in Bubble Bobble can you get on 1 guy? NES games, since we know many of them so well, can really provide inspiration in creating unusual but compelling topics.

Anybody particularly like/dislike this or another format?

I have about 600 NES Roms all are half a megabyte or less. Does anyone have a complete set?

I'd be happy to distribute the weekly rom file via e-mail or whatever. Can they be hosted on the DP site?

Otherwise, I'm all set to roll out the first game. Any last minute additions of new members or opinions on the proposal?

@Bratwurst- I appreciate you being willing to host images, that would be great.

I think I burned somewhere around 700 onto my NesterDC disc, but there are definitely some that I missed. Goofy pirates and english translations of Japanese games are usually what go missing in many collections. The roms I notice missing most often are Doki Doki Panic and the Japanese Super Mario 2.... I made a specific point to wait until I had those before I burned my NesterDC disc.

If anyone picks anything odd like that, then I'm sure someone will be able to provide it. I imagine the pirate Super Mario World rom will eventually be chosen... that's always an interesting one.

I'm afraid it doesn't really work like that... We go down the list, and each week the next person on the list picks the game for that week. I'm assuming that CueWarrior gets the first pick, since he started the whole thing, and he's at the top of the list.

When it's your turn, you're certainly free to choose Wrecking Crew if you want... but that'll be quite a while from now (9 months or so by the looks of it).

I am not sure how many are in a complete set but i have about 1450 nes roms so if you are looking for something you can't find let me know and i will check.

I have over 8000 nes roms so I think I am more than in. That is including imports, hacks, and pirates. :D
