Hey everybody! I was at my local funcoland, browsing the game bins like I always do (I am so pissed that they're going to stop taking older games) and as I was looking in the genesis bin, I noticed something.

I saw the top label of sonic 2, but it looked different. The logo was bigger and the text was blue with a yellow outline. Intrigued, I picked up the game, and I noticed it said "Sega Mega Drive" where the genesis logo should be. It looks exactly the same as a genesis game in shape, but I don't know if I should try it. But aren't mega drive games shaped differently from US genesis games? I'm so confused...

I bought it for $2, but I never tried it, because I don't have a Mega Drive and I'm afraid to put it in my genesis. I thought it was cool that I found a mega drive game in a place where you wouldn't normally find one.

I've had a lot of good luck at this store! I've also found tengen tetris and NES Qix sealed there! I just wanted to share this interesting experience.

Japanese Megadrive games are shaped differently, European ones are shaped like US ones. I've got 2 European Megadrive Games (Super Fantasy Zone, Super Hang on), and they both work fine on my Genesis 2.

ARe you really that excited about the mega drive game? It's not like you got a great deal. How much did the 2 sealed games cost? And why owu be afraid to put the game into ur sega genesis? It wouldn't work, but it pwouldn't give it a virus or blow up or anything.

You got a European Megadrive game. I also have Sonic 2 for the Euro Megadrive...and it works fine in my Genesis 1.

I found a PAL Tunnel B1 for PS1 at Blockbuster once for 6.99, also found a Japanese Devil May Cry for PS2 for 6.97 at a pawnshop once...nothing great, it's always odd finding import games in the US.

I can echo your statement almost verbatim. I came across one of those Euro Sonic 2's on Friday.

I find it really odd that these import titles find their way into pawns and game stores. Didn't the original owner have to go out of their way to get the game in the first place? It just strikes me as odd that they would let something like that go.

That's why I'm picky when buying imports. I have to REALLY want it.

My guess is that these Euro carts found their way into the US via Canada.
AFAIK (could be wrong) there were no dual-language Genesis carts for Canada, so multi-language Euro copies were probably imported into French-speaking regions instead.
