Hi Folks,

Thought I'd share this close call with you. Yes, I used esnipe, but what stunned me was that I won it at the very maximum bid I put in...like they were psychic and KNEW. Lol. LOL

That's happenned to me a few times...I don't really get it...very eerie. Not complaining, just thought it was a weird coincidence. Oh, and look, a 3 feedback newb drove it up on me $40, that little whippersnapper.

I remember seeing these at E3 99 and 2000 and was pissed I couldn't buy one. However, here's a link to the company that makes em for Nintendo, if you are interested:

Not sure if I should laugh or cry here (or even if I should be posting this, but I feel I need to speak out about folks like Linjr). Linjr is a d00d from Hong Kong who makes a mint getting lucky off people who think the stuff he's reselling is rare. He doesn't have any particularly good connections, and his prices are just your average overpriced crap. Back in 2001 I thought his stuff was hot as well...but no, just overpriced "hot button" items (maybe that's changed, as we'll see). You don't see many of these things in the US, for sure, but somebody offloaded a ton of them recently (as mentioned in that other topic).

That (and this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3245599571&category=13667)) aside, many of his auctions seem fairly priced now. The BIN auctions on This Page (http://www.stores.ebay.com/id=14442465&ssPageName=L2) look fairly decent to me, including that Sharp Famicom Titler, for example, but you could do better through Yahoo! Auctions Japan.

If you bought that because you really wanted it, well, that works fine, but don't expect it to be worth half of what you bought it at for a while :o

Still, taking the long view and saying "hey, this is like a Super GameBoy" should let things work out. It's hard to price this one 'cuz they're a virtually unknown product, for sure...

I am working with a fellow who lives in Japan to see about getting much better deals on game stuff out of that country, though I can't say whether his prices will be much better than LinJr's, I can say that his shipping should be.

Only question, tho: Is it legit (the seller is based in Hong Kong...)? Not that you'd care if all you wanted was a GBC-to-N64 version of the Game Boy Player...

Linjr's other stuff (hardware for sure -- everything I looked at in his online store) is legit. I'm not sure if this was an official product, but I've read it is.

I have no idea on the value since I have never seen one of these myself, but its pretty cool nonetheless.

The worst that could have possibly happened is that you have a fairly unique conversation piece :)

Only plays GB/GBC?

We had one at the last place I worked that played GBA.

Yeah, figured I payed a *bit* too much for it, but they are rather hard to find and were only given to developers and magazines and stuff. I've seen these go for about this price before, so I think the deal I got was just fine. They are a pain in the ass to find, so I'm not really too concerned. I don't think I payed too much at all.

I'm sure it's legit because there's pics all over the web of these. Apparently they used to sell for about $1400 when bought by a developer. The manufacturer's website used to be a LOT better...lots of pics, lots of proprietary dev software for Nintendo licensed developers (password protected downloads). Now most of that's gone...hmmm.

Now, if someone can find me the old GB to NES adapter, I got a big payment to send you. The original wideboy is a rare animal indeed.

Hey, that works. As long as you're buying it for the right reasons :)

Too many folks find themselves shelling out big bucks for things they only sort of want...that's not the way to go.

I couldn't agree more. It was an informed purchase, that's for sure.

But that newb, seems they are after me sometimes. :-)

Cool find. I just bought the super gameboy player for the snes the other day and of course have the GB Player for the gamecube and was thinking why Nintendo never came out with one for the N64, an Official brand one.

I know what you mean about how you put in a price and it meets the next bidder to the exact penny, I feel so lucky when I win those, I would be really pissed if I lost by only a couple pennies!

Yeah, isn't that weird....it happpens to me a lot...I mean, like every auction I do over $50-70. It's very creepy, and starting to seem a lot more than coincidence...but that's all I can attribute it to.

Now if someone bids high and retracts the bid, will you see it in the auction history?

If not, that would be a sneaky way to find out what the max someone will pay is. However, I usd esnipe, so they couldn't have without hacking my esnipe account, LOL LOL

I don't know about retracting a bid, but I had to cancel a bid on one of my auctions and was able to see how much the second highest bidder wanted it for.
