I have a question about the "Omake" thing (or whatever it is), the final choice on the main menu. I was wondering what is the conditions of unlocking some of the items on this menu are. I have some of them unlocked, but some things have a minus value next to them. Do you have to kill enemies or collect bunnies to open them up?

BTW, how rare is the PSX game Keio Yugekitai Gaiden (The board game)? I've never seen it on eBay and was curious about the value...

I don't know about the unlcoking requirements but I've managed to unlock all the stuff just by playing through the game twice. So just go through it again and you'll undoubtly unlock more.

As for Rami's Oo Edo Sugoroku game, I see it pop frequently at Yahoo Japan. It's usually priced above 5000 yen or higher.

There's also some Keio Yugekitai Katsugekihen book that comes with a cd, Keio Yugekitai Okiraku Tamatebako. It has a demo of the first level, some extra new FMV that shows some of the story that takes place before the Keio 2 game starts. It also has what looks like some brewed mini-demo game, similar to the Keio 1 game except all the enemies and stuff are real big and such. Odd looking and tricky to get to the boss on that. Of course the book is also priced rather high.

To unlock the stuff, you have to get teh point value next to each item. For the minus point stuff -- you have to get minus that many points (by getting hit and whatnot).

Oedo Sugoroku varies in price. It's very rare, and when it's on Yahoo Japan, people usually ask 10,000 yen or more for it. But, it's a board game, so most people won't go that high. Someone listed one for 500 yen not long ago, and it finished at 1800 or so, which is about how much I got mine for (but not on Yahoo Japan).

The book (which I'm about to add to Japanese Gaming) contains a cd with a lot of the omake stuff from the game, a demo of stage one (taken from the PAL release) and a bonus shooter stage (which wasn't included in either release) and also was apparently slated for at least the PAL release, as everything's in English.

There's also a strategy guide which isn't near as good as the other book.

Sounds about right. Not a bad game if you're into board games. There's a nice FMV sequence. The board characters are polygons though, not sprites.

Throwing some objects and killing some enemies will drop your score, oddly enough. Nearly any part of the scenery that you pick up and toss will reduce your score, including tanuki statues, phones, and whatever else you can get your grubby hands on. You'll also lose points by attacking the workers in the mine shaft near the beginning of the game. This strikes me as rather odd because the workers are most definitely not harmless, and will injure Keio on contact.

The score, written in kanji, is incredibly hard to read, so just keep this rule of thumb in mind... red is good, and blue is bad. Anything you do that causes red symbols to appear will increase your score, and actions that cause blue symbols to appear will reduce it. It's easy to reduce your score- just run into one of Dr. Pon's goons with an item in your hand, then pick the item back up and repeat the process.

Raising your score is a little more difficult, although the forest near the end of the game offers plenty of opportunities for patient players to increase their scores... simply find an enemy, kill it, then walk backward and return to the enemy's spawning point. Repeat this for about an hour and you should have enough points to see all the artwork in the game. You also get a huge point bonus if you can find the RCA Victor dog and bring him to the phonograph near the end of the forest stage. This isn't easy to do... the phonograph is tucked in an out of the way area, and any contact with enemies will cause you to drop the dog, forcing you to do it all over again, but it's worth doing just for the challenge.

Hope that helps!

I've attempted that numerous times but always failed. I always get hit eventually. Is it just points? I was hoping a music sample or something would play when that happens.

I think it's just for points (100 of them, if I recall).

If you still want to try for the bonus, here's what I'd suggest. Periodically rest the item on the floor (press down and A) and scout ahead a little bit, wiping out any enemies and springing any traps you might find. Don't scroll the item off the screen or you'll lose it.

Also, I think you can only bring the dog to the phonograph, and not the other way around, due to the design of the stage. I'll have to play the game again to verify this.
