Sadly, today marks the 2 year anniversary of the final game released for our beloved Sega Dreamcast (US)-- NHL 2K2 released 2/12/02. Everyone please bow in a moment of silence....... :(

I was so pissed when I heard Sega was going to stop supporting the Dreamcast as I loved that system. The came the X-Box which I quickly modded and I haven't looked back! :)
Sad indeed. :(
Not too many consoles had so many great games in such a short time.

I hate to admit it, but I'm one of the people that bought the system during it's downslide. If it wasn't for the fact that it was super cheap, and the game prices were dropping like flies, I probably wouldn't have bought it, since I had very little interest in "modern" systems.
Definitely amung my favorite systems now though. It's really too bad it didn't do better, even if it would have meant I would have missed out on the whole thing.

I would love to see sega come back with a secret console for the next generation of console wars. Think about it, how cool would that be if they said f... sony, microsoft, and nintendo

we can only hope. i personally feel that even though sega's systems weren't as powerful as some of the others out, they were always ahead of the times. dreamcast was a prime example with its VMU's, well crafted controller(its the best controller ever imho) and web capabilities. the other next gen systems didn't have online play till a year or 2 after their release date. maybe i'm just a sega fanatic but they truly are a top notch company that'd could make a killer comeback with the right funds behind them and a clean slate.

the DC is a very good game machine....and its graphics still look cool today...just try jet set radio or sonic adventure 2.....
i played sonic heroes on xbox today...and it doesnt look that much better than the sonic adventures for DC....thats a big feat for the DC, considering it was released 4 and a half years ago

Ahh yes, you are right! I stand corrected. The DC lives on with titles still being produced in Japan, and through emulation.

While it's sad Sega pulled the plug on Dreamcast early, the lack of mainstream appeals is what draws me to the system, besides the fact I can load up so many games at bargain prices. If Dreamcast was really popular back in 2001/2002, I would not end up getting complete collection, imagine all the EA junks the system will have.
The system is still supported so not all are lost, not surprisingly, most new releases are 2D shooters and fighters, it might become the next Neo-Geo.

I just got one this morning, which I won in a competition from www.diehardgamer.co.uk Absolutely thrilled! Already have one, but it got broken when I moved, which was a tragic moment indeed. I was very sad!
Plus this one is boxed 8) Plus it comes with three games and a SCART cable, which I also didn't have. I can't wait to get home and get stuck into Powerstone 2, Border Down, Ikaruga. Plus I have downloaded Beats of Rage and have been waiting for a chance to play it ... now i can burn it to disc and play it at last!
Of course, all my workmates think I am crazy, because I have a big Dreamcast box sitting on my desk. But I care not!

I felt the same way about the Saturn. I don't think the ps1 was anything so special that it deserved to take off like it did. I don't think much of the ps2 either now that I think of it. What would make me happiest though is if rather than making a new system, Sega rereleased the master system. But that's just TOO wishful thinking. THough with a low enough price tag .... could that work?!

If they released it with every game that was ever made for it (or whichever games to which Sega owns the full rights), that would be something.
They'd probably be quicker just to make a retro compilation for whichever systems are current.
I wouldn't mind some of that AGES stuff.

The thing Sega did wrong, was they tried too hard to be the first to come out with the new systems--people would be skeptical, and wait till the other companies would release thier system, and then buy. I truly feel a new Sega system would succeed if they would be a bit more patient this time around. I'm not saying they should wait a year or two after the next system, but not be the first out of the gate--let hype and anticipation do some selling for them. But I think I am dreaming anyway, because there is no "next" Sega system, not in the near future anyway--not even on the radar screen..... :(

While it's sad that the Dreamcast died way before it should have, the good thing is that there is still a very active homebrew game and emulation community. Like Beats of Rage for instance....it's one of the best homebrew games I've ever played. I know it's on PS2 and PC also, but IMO it's best played on Dreamcast. :)

yeah, but they do just repair old broken consoles and re-sell them with boxes and Puyo Puyo

The... Dreamcast... is... NOT... DEAD!!!! I refuse to swallow that truth down! It still lives as long as I play it. And play it I do! Between my Mars Matrix and Street Fighter III: Third Strike addictions, it is hardly deceased.
...
But if it really were dead, it would be sad that THAT game was the last release. :(
But it's not. Believe me. ;)
