Hiroshi Yamauchi recently did an interview with the Nikkei Industrial Daily, which 1-up has posted (albeit in a rewritten form) Here (http://www.1up.com/article2/0,4364,1527042,00.asp). A number of developers gave their opinions on the device, from Sonic Team's Yuji Naka to Koei's Kou Shibusawa, which may be found Here (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=Koei%27s+Shibusawa&spell=1).
Thanks go out to a fellow named Roshin @ GameSpy for reposting these stories for us.

The DS represents a critical moment for Nintendo's success over the next two years, Yamauchi said -- "if it succeeds, we rise to the heavens, if it fails, we sink into hell."
:( Nintendo....you will be missed. :(
In all seriousness though....if Nintendos future is depending on this handheld as they make it sound. They better wise up and make this sucker rock! I'm still against dropping the second screen though cause I don't see it as something that will last in the video game market.

Better send them a bottle of 2 million SPF.

It seems a lot of prominent Japanese developers like it. When you have companies like Namco, Sega, and Koei showing enthusiasm about a system, it should not be taken lightly. My favourite quote is:
The first time I saw it, I thought "?", then when reading the specs, that turned into "!"

Nintendo doesn't make hardware that doesn't have a clear and well-defined purpose, and so its hardware design teams are seeking to infuse their next product with that kind of purpose
What about Virtual Boy? From what I heard, the system's proposal and launch received many objections even within Nintendo, but it got a go ahead simply because of Yokoi, just like Sega's 32X, which practicaly killed Sega's hardware domain.

Yeah... boy, I didn't like the sound of that line either. The DS sounds like an interesting idea and all, but it seems like an awfully risky move to me.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I sure hope this doesn't backfire on them.

Everyone's excited to see what it's all about... I am! Excitement doesn't translate into "we intent to make new and exciting games for this system", though.
You know what worries me? You read the article, and developers are like "hey, two screens, cool! I'm sure we could do SOMETHING with that." Great. Any good ideas? "We could show 2 views of a battle!" and "we won't have to worry about menu layering!" Umm...
There must be a great use for 2 screens somewhere... most people agree... they just can't think of one. ;)

I agree...and no one really knows much at the moment, or will know anything until E3. But I am still happy to know that along with Nintendo, Sega, Konami, and Namco already have games in development. I don't know how that can't make a good launch for the system.

Ah, thanks, sorry about that folks!
The actual link I posted was essentially a paraphrased version of what you have there...this version is better, I'd say. It also has Kou's name right :)

Windows 2000 has native support for dual monitors. If it was such a great idea you would think someone would have already explored the option.
If the DS fails, that heaven/hell quote is going to be thrown around a thousand times. It seems odd to me that Nintendo is putting that much stock into a product that, at best, has most people saying "?".
