I can't promise anything yet but a few of us Bay Area (and Atari alumni) are kicking around some ideas. If we can get it together expect something pretty awesome all the way around. Food, fun, games, location and "special" guests from the gaming world past and present.
Contests galore and some great prizes. Anybody up for an electronic baseball and football contest? How about on completed never before seen Atari board games from 1976 :)
Or you could just chill out, drink, and listen/watch some Video Music with the original designer.
Of course Pong and Computer Space will be availible for constant free play as well.

I wouldn't quite call it a party but a few of us will be chillin, drinking, or just gaming it up at Dave and Busters after CGE on Sunday evening. It would be cool to get a bunch of CGE attendees and DP people to round up there and hang out. Let me know if you'd like to join the Messiah folk.
Cheers.

Hey Jerry, I'm stoked to hear you'll be there again. I really enjoyed getting to meet you in 2002 and see all the cool schwag you brought, including the vintage Computer Space you let me pose with. If you're partying in any capacity I know the Mrs. and I would love to participate, and even split a pitcher if you're so inclined. See you in San Jose! :)

We've got two weeks left, so I wanted to make some kind of semi-official announcement :)
Kevin Staszkow (kevates), with me as his sidekick, has planned a party for Saturday night! The kind souls over at Digital Eclipse have graciously agreed to sponsor the party :) We'll have snacks donated from our very own Darth Vader, a variety of adult beverages, AND a small surprise for those attending.
It looks like we may have a suite and two adjoining rooms for the party, or at the very least the suite, so we should have plenty of room. The party will open its doors shortly after the auction finishes up Saturday night. Hope to see you there!

I would offer to have a party in my SF apartment, but you'd only be able to fit about five people inside...
Jerry, I'll see if I can't make it to your shindig.

Is there going to be an "official" party announcement? I'm getting lots of questions about this, like "is it a DP-only thing", "is there a cover charge", "what room is it in", "what time is it", etc etc etc.
Let me know and I'll even sticky it here! Thank ya, party crew.

I look forward to seeing you....I hope, nah I have to make it!
After a painfull 6 months of brutal workloads I had to abandon any hope at throwing together an "official" party as I had hoped. Both myself and Larry Anderson have just been to busy to think about it. Hell I have not logged onto this board in 3 months.
I do promise to try and round some people up for some off site fun, maybe I can grab some of the old gang like Larry Kaplan, Steve Woita, and Howard Warshaw to join us. Larry has never been to a CGE ever and your in for a treat! Not to take anything away from the other Activision guys but Larry is a blast!
The never before seen, working, electronic board games will be there and the hardware guy (Atari employee #7) will be there to show Rob Fulop......he programmed them. Lot's of other surprise guests will be there not listed on the guests page. Many of the AtariTel crew will be there and (hopefully) the designer of Video Music.
Looks like we could have a number of modern day designers on hand as well, from Japan.
I'll miss Vegas but the guys have thrown together an awesome list of speakers (as usual) and I can't wait to see if Alcorn and Wozniak can be coaxed into discussing the Steve Jobs Atari Breakout story :)
Safe travels all and see you in San Jo!

Hey if they have classic video games to go with the pizza, that would be good enough for me. Back when they were still called Showbiz I whiled away many an hour playing Ladybug and Zaxxon at the one in Des Moines. :D
By the time I got to the party I was lit like a Christmas tree. So, I apologize now if I offended anyone.
I know I drunkenly chewed Dave and Scott's ears (read: bored them to death) about the virtues of downtown San Jose's bars and how we all needed to go back out right then and there to get a brew at Gordon Biersch (no one budged). I also ate a ton of pizza (do I owe someone some $$$?) and gave John Hardie a huge bear hug (who also was lit like a Christmas Tree).
Then I walked all the way back to the Marriott talking to some really drunk British guy (what's his name?) who didn't remember not one iota of the conversation the next day. When I approached him the next day to say hello, he had to study my badge for any hope of recognition. Nothing registered. Ha ha. Oh well. Oh, and I got a cool shot glass out of the deal.
I didn't feel well the next day. Good party.

...And it's especially funny if the host isn't there when it gets busted!

Dude! I so wanted to go there for beer and garlic fries, AND to Tied House just a couple blocks further!

If anyone, probably Jamie... But a bunch of us put in money and had pizza left over, so I don't think you really kept anyone from their due.

Gotta be Mat I assume.

Heh. I only had four beers, but had a small localized headache in my right temple... Had to be the Coors Light. Corona & MGD aren't good, but they're not as punishing methinks.

It was a pretty badass.
Question-I drew a fluffball cartoon character on the dry erase board. Did ANYONE(outside achika) get what it was from?
Also, here's another note-never let Betty talk you into doing shots. I didn't feel particularly well the next day.
Contrary to popular belief, I didn't actually pass out...when I drink, I get sleepy, and I decided, in my drunken mindset, that taking a nap on the couch would be a good idea. And, it was. But hell, it was worth getting that drunk to keep having Sean Kelly walk up to you constantly to tell you that you look drunk LOL

Yep that was me Cav, and no, I still don't recall a bloody thing about walking back with you! 12 shots of Centipede piss saw to that... (and before you ask, I do vaguely recall leaving the party but nothing until the point of actually getting back to my hotel room!).
Dude! I so wanted to go there for beer and garlic fries, AND to Tied House just a couple blocks further!
Augh! Drunken flashback! That's right! I was yammering away at you too. I think Ian was also there. Starting to sound like Wizard of Oz now...
Marty "the Party" Animal was also having a helluva time. I probably even tried to get him to Gordon Biersch as well. I wouldn't have put it past me.
Mmmm...garlic fries. If we're downtown next year for the show we'll go grab some fries AND Tide House brew.
And yeah...Mayhem...we had a helluva conversation about classic gaming in the UK in general, Chuckie Egg specifically, and god knows what else. Your reaction the next day was priceless though.
"hey, it's that dude I walked back with!"

I keep seeing references to "Centipede piss" -- is there a real recipe for this, or was it just a mix of what was there?
@Ubersaurus -- I didn't realize it was you that was so drunk then; Betty looked pretty lit too, leaving as Scott & I entered. I didn't see the cartoon character, so I can't comment on whether I recognized it or not. It's nice to know that no matter how drunk Sean was, he still had a sense of humor...
@Cav -- for what it's worth, I don't remember you "yammering" at me. In fact, if it wasn't for your "beefsteak tomato" red complexion, I probably wouldn't have even noticed that you were drunk.
And yeah, Ian, Dave G and Tony B were all chatting about that time, I think. It was a hoot.
@Joe -- I'm not a lightweight (too fat to be called that!) so much as just a slow drinker; I know I can't keep up to a real althcoholete, but maybe next time I'll bring along a Cocoa Crunchies board to play... Somebody remind me!
@Chunky -- it's nice to know that Sean actually spoke to you about making an honest woman out of your lady friend; he sure mentioned it to the rest of us after you left. :-)

No wonder I was so fucking ill Sunday morning then. 12 shots of the piss, at least 3 beers, 2 lemonade things, this bottle with stuff in it courtesy of Chunky AND I've been told at least a few other shots along the way of spirits. And only some nachos and pizza (which I didn't remember eating until... well you can figure it out) to soak it all up. Pity I can't remember some of it. At least no one's told me I did anything daft yet :P

I am SO glad so many people had such a good time at the party. As anyone else that was there can probably attest, I had a fantastic time; according to some others, I apparently looked like I was having the best time there of anyone. I apologize to the people that weren't able to find out about the party in time, or were confused by the vague information about the party. Lack of better organization on my part is to blame for that. But that only means next year will be that much better!
