Good: Controller, Sleek Look, Games aplenty
Bad: Loading times, graphics sometimes "bitty"

Good: better 3rd party support than N64, much more diverse game library than N64, Castlevania Symphony of the Night

Bad: load times, jagged graphics (no anti-aliasing), way too many sports games, no real killer app titles

are we forgetting the #1 BAD thing about PS1?

BAD: Systems cop out and stop reading disks after about 3-5 years. :o

It's the only system that I currently have 3 non-working units of, and sadly my PS2 is about gone also. Cmon sony, cant you put out a system that actually lasts?

You won't believe but my PS1 (SCPH-1001, yes the first and the worst one), only "died" now, after 8 years X_x

The cd does not spin anymore (motor problem), and the lens itself are wasted. I'm gonna fix it and keep it safe. Gonna buy a PSone and put him to work

The curious thing is that my PS1 was modded to play imports. Well i guess i was lucky or way to careful :D

Back to topic:

GOOD: Controller, Lots of games i like, Huge support from game companies, Net Yarouze, made Memory Cards being a must on any system, lots of arcade ports.

BAD: Cheap look, low RAM ( a big problem on some games ), 2 controller ports only ( 4 is already the standard, but sony kept the same mistake on PS2 ). People don't want to buy Multitaps anymore

GOOD: Games are cheap as dirt, readily available EVERYWHERE, and they are fun.

BAD: WHAT??? READ ABOVE???

The good: lots of games, plenty of rpgs, Gran Turismo, Twisted Metal 2.

The Bad: The controller is seriously the worse I have ever used. Any games that require extensive use of the shoulder give my hands serious cramps (ie Twisted Metal 2). Whoever thought to make the handles stick out to the side should be shot. And the analogue stick is pathetic and gives no resistance. Also the loading times sucked big time in most games.

Good: HUGE library, lots of really fantastic RPGs, nice controller (I've never had any cramping problems with it)

Bad: Some of the fugliest graphics ever (who the hell decided that "serious", "adult" games have to have a palatte of brown, dark brown, and really dark brown? Lots of XBox games are fugly for the same reason). The only time in my life I have been physically unable to play a game due to terrible graphics was with a PS1 game, Azure Dreams. Ushered in the era of all-3D, even with games that would have been much better in 2D. Began the trend of non-game companies making consoles.

Well come on man look at the damn genisis. Whenevr I think of that system I think of madded and hockey games. That is the reason im not big on genesis.

Funny, when I think of the Genesis I usually think of games like Gunstar Heroes, The Revenge Of Shinobi, MUSHA and Mystic Defender, and a score of others that aren't even remotely connected to Madden, NHL, EA or sports at all.

Good: Large and diverse library, (currently my most prominent collection) well-designed controller, a great load of quality titles including, but not limited to, Tenchu, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, R-Type Delta, Thunderforce V, and although you'll have to import it, Gradius Gaiden... also, the memory card allows easily portable data, and the rumble feature is also a nice touch.

Anti-Good: LOAD TIMES, it's not well-known for 2-D games, and combining the two, it has sucky load times on 2-D ports of games on other systems (Metal Slug comes to mind). And I guess the graphics could be better on most games, yes.

Agreed.

The PSOne is the only system that makes me immediately think of sports games. It seriously must have about 30 football games alone. Genesis makes me think Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Shinobi etc........, which are some of my favorite games of that time period. The N64 got my favorite games of the PSOne's era.

BAD : Sometimes load times, but especially Bubsy 3-D

no real killer app titles

Well, I don't know about that.

Good: Huge library, interesting titles (ie Intelligent Qube, Incredible Crisis), great controller.

Bad: GH Packaging, console tends to wear out quickly (I've bought 3 of these things).

Bad: Too Many Sports Games
Worse: Sony's lack to build a better drive.

Good: Best controller overall on the 32 Bits...only Saturn Jap. Pad beats it.
Better: PSone with Monitor rules
Best: Ultimate Collecting Saga. There may be 1280 games, but you know you can find them all, you just have to find them. (And not pay $1500 for them like some 2600 cart :D )

Bonus: They Make Great building blocks when you're bored with no legos LOL

You know, one of my brother's friends complimented me on my impressive collection of PS1 games. All the PS1 games I have fill in only half of one shelf. Maybe it's best that I don't tell anyone who knows me well about this website... trust me, it's for the best. :eek 2: :eek 2: :eek 2:

Oh, and Konami Arcade Classics is also a big plus. :D

My favorite thing about the PS1 at this point is the fact that the PS2 is backwards compatible with it. Long live backwards compatibility. For the average gamer (i.e. not a collector) it really extends the life of a system library. Oh yeah, DEEEZAM what a stack of games!

I know I'm totally in the minority in this... but I hate the Playstation. I really do. I think the controller is terrible and uncomfortable, the system is unreliable, and I think the vast, vast majority of Playstation software is pure crap.

Not to mention the fact that the Playstation almost single handedly started the huge surge of piracy that afflicts the industry today, and it started the whole "3D push" that caused a lot of excellent 2D games to get left behind because Sony didn't think they were good enough (Incidentally, the games I feel like I'm missing out on the most by not owning a Playstation are the Megaman X games, and Symphony of the Night).

No sir, I don't like it.

PS - That collection is incredible though, I have to admit that. I'm probably the only person who actually noticed the boxed C-128 in the background though.

Not to mention the fact that the Playstation almost single handedly started the huge surge of piracy that afflicts the industry today,

You know...I usually tend to think that the seed for that was planted long before the PSX, when EGM ran a nice picture of the SNES/GEN disk copiers with a complete article on it, as well as the CD-Rs back in the day. I still remember the Disk Copier picture showing off Mario World getting the ol' back-up job. Also, considering how many clones and pirate games the NES/Genesis/Atari etc, I think that's passing a wee bit of too much of the blame on Sony. The only thing they can be blamed for is releasing a system at a time when the means to do the piracy became financially feasible to the common person.

and it started the whole "3D push" that caused a lot of excellent 2D games to get left behind because Sony didn't think they were good enough
No sir, I don't like it.

That what Importing was for. That and the Saturn. :)

no real killer app titles

Klonoa, Bushido Blade, FF7/9/T , Intelligent Qube, Raiden Project, Metal Gear Solid (Integral), Jumping Flash, Rage Racer/R4, Tobal, Street Fighter Alpha 3, R-Type Delta, Vandal Hearts, etc etc!

And yes, that is a picture of my personal collection. Thanks for the compliments guys. 68 more to go and I have the complete set. :rocker:

Piracy is not necessarily a bad thing - many economists think Sony deliberately allowed the Playstation to have poor copy protection to help videogames break into the third world. Sony has tended to only go after pirate game copiers that sell in the US/EU/Jap market or the very largest of the Taiwan/Malay/HK outfits. In the long run, having the Playstation established in places like India, the Arab World and Latin America, even if it was established because of $1 copied games, is a good thing for Sony.

And I will say outright that the Playstation has, in pure quantity terms, more great games than any system ever released. You release 1280 games, you're going to have some good ones.

I, too, am damn impressed with Dangerboy's collection.
