The Playstaytion, in any of its incarnations. I don't like the slow-loading CDs, and I hate the graphics.

Mine has to be the Odyssey2 or the Jaguar. Both have really bad games with few exceptions (K.C. Munchkin and Tempest 2000, respectfully) and terrible controllers.
A system I used to hate was the Playstation. That all changed when I bought Alundra :) Then I got Chrono Cross and Final Fantasy VII and now I love it.

My parents bought a Lynx for me in 1990, which I wanted instead of a Game Boy. I was impressed with some of the games (California Games, Klax, Electrocop, Ninja Gaiden, etc.), but the battery life was horrible. It would've made a great home console though.

me too i would have to go with the n64,, some people might praise it for games like no mercy goldeneye, mario banjo, and stuff like that but apart from them look at the other games ,, and the ways you have to hold the controller

I don't like the look of the virtual boy. I peered into one a shop had imported back in the mid 90's, it seemed cool back then, but i dont think i could spend much time playing on one today.

Well I will say that the Jaguar in my opinion is just hideous visually (I still have nightmares about the god forsaken controllers) and the games were lack luster and boring (and Atari's marketing certianly did not help at all). I would also add 3DO and Saturn to the list of systems I just cannot get into.

I will agree that the CD-I is a horrible system, but because I never personally owned it I can't say much. The 3DO on the other hand..is one system I would leave in the dust. I owned one...now the controller, didnt bother me, there was nothing wrong with it, but the games themselves...I cannot recollect any games on the system that were remotely close to playable, except for the ones that ended up on the playstation.
3DO is one console which will never find a welcomed home in my house - sorry to all the die hard 3DO collectors out there, nothing against you!

this is all trivial. All systems have good and bad points(some worst than others). to say coleco, genesis, and atari suck is just plain crazy. it seems 15 year olds hate coleco, how shocking. I could see why young people cant fully get into old systems. to someone like me who is in his mid 30's' i appreciate every system for the leap in technology. I own almost every system. i am always playing and appreciating every single one. Today a little 3do and genesis

I think the only system that I don't like because of the poor play would be the famous & amazing 64 bit Atari Jaguare.... Horrible system!!... I think I'm going to drop it off at goodwill pretty soon. :)

Hate is too strong an emotion to direct at an inanimate object ...
I don't think there has ever been a system with absolutely ZERO titles worth playing.
Even though I regularly get "frustrated" (and in some cases speak out about said frustration) over hardware, software, creative moves, corporate decisions, delays, cancellations and so on and so forth for every system since PONG ... there's always been something worth trying on (and in most cases enjoying) ... and I can't think of any console or portable that I'd go so far as to say I "hate".
Plus, we all know the reason why people "hate" in a public forum ... it's a lot easier to find solidarity in a group of people who have similar "hatreds" than it is to openly accept people who have divergent interests or challenge the way you might think (even when it comes to a hobby as seemingly innocuous as Video Games) ... I mean, just ask any card carrying member of the Nazi party if they hate people of the Jewish faith and they'll likely say "Scheißt ein Bär im Holz?"

I'd have to agree with everything Frankie said so eloquently.
With that understood, I'll have to pick the Colecovision as the single console I never saw any redeeming qualities in. :-D
After longing for a Colecovision for 15 years or so, when I finally got one I tried to play Donkey Kong and the controllers were so awful I abandoned playing the system after about 30 minutes and never looked back. I can't believe so many people accept these, and complain about the 5200's sticks. (But what do I know - I really, really like the 5200, and I think the Jag's not nearly as bad as it's frequently made out to be!)
I do have to admit though, I played Spy Hunter on the CV for a few minutes at an early Philly Classic, and it wasn't bad.

I have never been a huge playstation fan, since the one I got originally had the overheating problems and had to be played upside-down to make it semi-work. I have finally started getting back in playstation games since I got a ps2 but I still will try to get a game for another system first even if I means losing some video or graphic quality (when getting a game for n64).

The console that has never really done it for me is the Odyssey 2 bought one ages ago and its never fit in :(

I really can't find anything good about the 32X I owned. It came with a box of 2600 games I bought several years back and I just don't feel like using it. I don't think it even came with all the needed cords.
I'm too scared to touch a Virtual Boy, especially after that AVGN review.
EDIT: Do certain variations count? I hated the Game Boy Pocket, it ate up batteries like crazy.

The system that really never appealed to me was the N64. I was in love with my PS1 at the time, but like everybody else, I was completely blown away by Mario 64. However, when I saw that there was little else to offer, my brief infatuation with the system fell to the wayside and I moved on.
I have freely acquired 2 of these systems and gave both of them away. First of all, the controller looked and felt like it was manufactured in a third-world country, after a robot had puked on it. Second, the blurry wish-wash graphics prevalent in almost all of the games were very unappealing to me. Speaking of the games, besides Mario and Zelda (which I had been playing since the NES days), what else was there? Very few RPG's, shitty fighting games (a big problem, for me anyways) and almost no 2D games (all I can think of is Bangai-O at the moment). The Saturn had awesome 2D games, the Playstation was breaking new ground with games like MGS and the Dreamcast was kicking down my door with better-than-arcade home versions of games like Soul Calibur.
People I know still defend this system like it was the greatest thing since tossed salad. I just call it 'nostalgia'... to me, it contributed nothing to gaming except for the analog stick.

Super Famicom. Don't get me wrong, it has a few good games (Super Metroid is the single greatest game ever made), but the MegaDrive has so much more, same with Nintendo's other consoles. Though I do own an surprisingly amount of SFC games (30 - 40). The smallest part of my collection, after Saturn (26), 32X (14), and Mega CD (9). I like to count my MD/MCD/32X collection as one though. So we're at 130 for that.
Anyway, the SFC easily Nintendo's worst console, and the MegaDrive kicked it's ass. Factor in the Mega CD and 32X, and it's simply no contest.
Nintendo's best console is/was a toss-up between N64 and The Cube. I like the NES quite a bit, but it's just about even with the Master System. Though as hardcore of a Sega nut as I am, I will admit the N64 does have just a slight edge over the Saturn. Then again, I love all five fifth generation consoles just about equally.
Though I will give Nintendo some credit, my two all-time favorite games are exclusive to their consoles. Super Metroid, and P.N. 03.

You could just give it to me. :) I've been wanting a Jaguar for years, and hope to be getting one in the next few weeks.

More than a year before the PlayStation "broke ground" with Metal Gear Solid, there was Goldeneye 007 on the N64.
The N64 also had very highly rated WWF and WCW wrestling games and the highly rated All-Star Baseball series. What else? The Banjo-Kazooie games, Blast Corps, Space Station Silicon Valley, 1080 Snowboarding, Wave Race 64, Ogre Battle 64, etc.
For 2D games, try Mischief Makers, Yoshi's Story, and Goemon's Great Adventure. If you're up for it, import Rakuga Kids and Wonder Project J2, one of the most impressive-looking 2D games ever made.
to me, it contributed nothing to gaming except for the analog stick.
And texture filtering, the Rumble Pak, four built-in controller ports, and really fun games like Mario Kart 64, The New Tetris, and again, Goldeneye 007.

Are those the floodgates that I hear breaking? I agree for the most part about what you say as you make some valid points.
Goldeneye was a great game with some interesting concepts to it. Mario Kart was decent fun, especially with multiple players. But Goldeneye was just a main course 1st person shooter with all the trimmings and I've been shooting shells and tossing banana peels at fools since the SNES days. Games like MGS, while technically not the first game of it's kind, offered something new and exciting in not only it's gameplay but also in its' narrative. Something like this would've been difficult to replicate on the N64.
When I say 2D, I mean good ol-fashioned sprites and pixels. The Saturn was awesome at this. The chaos of Guardian Heroes immediately springs to mind. Yoshi's Story, while somewhat pretty, is not even comparable, graphically or gameplay-wise to something like Yoshi's Island, a game from a previous generation. I'll definitely look into your recommendations, though, as I've barely even heard of these games.
While much as been said about the gee-whiz special effects that the PS1, Saturn and N64 have brought to the table, we just have to face the fact that PC gamers with high-end systems have been enjoying these graphical treats way before we knew what a filtered texture was.

You forgot one thing: not only was Goldeneye 007 an intelligent, perfectly designed first-person shooter, but it also featured one of the most well-remembered multiplayer modes ever.
Multiplayer was one of the N64's best features. Goldeneye 007, Mario Kart 64, Mario Party, Mario Tennis, highly-rated wrestling games, The New Tetris, Bust-a-Move '99, etc. So many games featured fun four-player modes.
In Mischief Makers, some levels are strictly 2D sprites and 2D backgrounds, while other levels are a combination of 2D sprites and 3D polygons. It was developed by Treasure, so of course the boss battles are great.
Goemon's Great Adventure is 2D gameplay with 3D polygon graphics. It's a great game though and features two player co-op.
I agree with you about Yoshi's Story. It features some amazing high-res 2D graphics, some giant sprites, and cool effects like rippling reflections in the water, but overall, I prefer the art direction and gameplay in Yoshi's Island.
Rakuga Kids is a strange, stylized 2D fighting game released in Japan. It looks cool, but it might not be your thing. Wonder Project J2 is a strange game with tons of Japanese text and voices, so you might not get very far in it, but the 2D graphics and animation are TV quality. I bought it in the late 1990s because it was very cheap and I was blown away by the visuals.
While much as been said about the gee-whiz special effects that the PS1, Saturn and N64 have brought to the table, we just have to face the fact that PC gamers with high-end systems have been enjoying these graphical treats way before we knew what a filtered texture was.
Not necessarily. I watched videos of Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire for Windows and the textures were severely pixellated, while videos of the same levels in the N64 version feature smooth, filtered textures.
And again, in 1996, a high-end computer system was more than $2,000. The N64 was $200 and produced comparable graphics.

Every consosle has it gem. But by and large I really dislike the CD and DVD based consoles. Call me an idiot but the quick reset of the cart based systems turns me on like no PS3 can. The games are great, I just hate the startup and level switching times
I think we will eventually return to non-optical systems when the production price and speed of various memory comes down, or when games are stored totaly on the net and save state is restored at boot. Yes, even on the consoles.
With all this stated I still bought a Wii for the family. I even stayed up for 36 hours playing SMG over New Year's just to show the kids I can whip their butts, and to enjoy having my daughter be the second player. But I don't play the Wii much.
