Anyone else here prefer, or not prefer, these to the traditional rectangular NES controllers?

I prefer the rectangle original controllers. I've gotta get a retrocon controller....

I perfer the dogbone controller. A few years back I used to carry one around in my car because i always hated playing with a rectangular one at friends house's. That has since changed as i have no problem playing with one now. Dogbone is prefered... but it was just a phase for me.

I just held a dogbone nes controller for the first time on sunday. the kid next door (i live in a dorm) brought up his nes and it happened to be a top loader...i offered him 2 regular nes's and $40 for it and he still wouldnt sell it. but anyone he had a dogbone and it just fits in your hands perfectly. i am definitely going to have to get one.

I LOVE dogbones... as I love the SNES controller and then the PS1/2 controller. The square NES controllers hurt my hands with the edges.

I prefer the older block controllers.
Maybe I'm just a freak, but I seem to have trouble using the dogbone controllers on games that require both buttons to be pressed at once. Something about the angle of the buttons... x_x

I just got and held a dogbone controller for the first time today, used it and I liked it alot. That's one the reasons I made this topic. :)

I dig the dogbones. I've got two....wouldn't get rid of them ever. So much easier on the hands!

It's funny. Growing up and playing the NES for years, I thought the original controlers were fine. They hurt my hands after a while but they were'nt the worse I had used so I just tolerated them.
Now that I'm usuing a dogbone controler for my NES emulator on my computer, I don't think I could ever touch a original controler again. :) SO much more confortable!

I prefer the original controllers more, but only because I'm more used to them.

Neither model hurst my hand, I don't see what all that pain nonsense with other controllers is all about, but I do prefer the dogbone to the original, but I would like it even better if the AB buttons weren't slanted like in the original. Whats the benefit of the slant? they didnt slant the D-pad, so why slant the buttons?

Exactly. The problem is that they messed up the button placement. It's unnatural. Luckily, they corrected it for the snes. Consider: in Super Mario World, the A and B buttons are slanted in the same way as a dogbone (A above B). Yet, they made Y run/fire, and B jump, instead of using A + B (like a dogbone). The dogbone is ergonomically incorrect. Nintendo realized this and fixed it for the SNES by reallocating the buttons the way they did. If the dogbone B button would have been above the A button, it would have been the *perfect* controller. (A above B is good for the nes advantage because you use your fingers, not your thumbs).

Didnt the Top Loader come out after the SNES was released?
I personally dont have a real preference between either, but i do enjoy the rounded edges of the dogbone.
I do have to agree on the slanted A & B buttons, why?

I for some reason as well have a slight more difficult time pressing both buttons at once, compared to the old square controllers. I have NO problem doing it with the snes ones. I just think I am not used to the dogbone controllers yet. I just got 3 brand new ones in yesterday.
I will get used to and eventually love them though.

The NES 2 came out in 1993 whereas the SNES came out in 1991.
I *ALSO* have problems using the dogbone controller! I prefer the dogbone on most games, but when I play TMNT 2, I cannot do that 4 hit point attack at all! I struggle and fail. But when I try it on the original style controllers, I pull that move off every time I push the buttons.

I prefer the squared controllers as opposed to the dog bone. The dog bone feel too small for my manly hands.

Interesting point, Dr. Morbis.
The original ones are prettier. Everyone knows that.

Which begs the question: what were they thinking? If they already had the button layout perfected for snes controllers, how did they manage to mess it up? The Max has the same A/B configuration as the dogbone. Maybe they didn't want to mess with "success".

As I understand it, the Max sold like shit, but maybe I'm wrong.
Also, I'm quite sure I'm the only oneon the planet who prefers the Max controller over the original.

Is it hard to use the dial control pad on the Max? I just started using my dogbone controller today and loved it.

Do a search on ebay for "nes max". It's a POS in my opinion.

Rumor has it that the NES MAX also functions as a makeshift boomerang, but I've yet to see any proof of this...
LOL. Yeah, it looks pretty uncomfortable.

Brand new? Good price, then. I checked and did'nt see any dogbone controllers that were brand new so I paid the $15 to get mine from Nintendo.
