I just saw an episode of Filter where they had a top ten of the best wrestling games of all time...have we ever done a discussion like that here? If not, what do you feel are among the best wrestling games and are there any you can enly without being a wrestling fanatic? I haven't really watched wrestling since the 1980's. If I got a game, I'd like one with a fair number of female wrestlers. I read that Konami is working on a wrestling game featuring only female fighters so perhaps I should just wait for that one...

WCW/NWO Revenge, Wrestlemania 2000, WWF No Mercy, all N64...there is no need for discussion. :P

Seriously, there are no other wrestling games I play. The Smackdown series is way too fast and sloppy (though the newer ones have taken major strides), I'm not even going to mention Acclaims attempts on the PS1/N64, and EA's breif stint wasn't much better. Def Jam wasn't too bad, but it's not a "REAL" wrestling game per se'.

Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain is my current favorite. I hear no mercy is good, but that game seems too slow paced.

Plus, in this one, we went crazy with the create a wrestler, with guys like Foodle Spanes, The Boogieman, Red Monster, Raptor-Man, Evil Lincoln, Winston Churchill, Coleman Young, Fred Sanford, Dr. Robotnik, and Puffy AmiYumi.

Wrestling... meh, definitely not my genre. :|

HOWEVER! However... Pro Wrestling is one of the greatest NES games ever. EVER, I tells ya. Beats the heck out of any licensed WWF/NWO/WWE/WHY/WTF title any day, IMO. :)

If you are really into it (and only if), you can't go wrong with Fire Pro Wrestling.

Toukon Retsuden/Power Move Pro Wrestling on the Playstation is classic 3D wrestling.

Def Jam Vendetta, as well as AKI's N64 games (Wrestlemania 2000, No Mercy) are fun even to non-fans.

On Filter's survey (which was done by online voting), WWE SmackDown: Bring On The Pain was #1 with WWF No Mercy coming in 2nd. Def Jam Vendetta and the NES' Pro Wrestling also made the top ten. So I might try that SmackDown game if I come across it at a good price.

You forgot WCW vs. nWo World Tour! The fantasy wrestlers are modeled after Japanese wrestlers. Atsushi Onita, Tarzan Goto, Great Sasuke, The Gladiator (Mike Awesome), Jinsei Shinzaki, Hayabusa, just to name a few. You cannot beat that.

Otherwise I agree 110%! :2gunfire: the rest.

Any N64 Aki Game
WWF Raw/Royal Rumble SNES nothing says fun like nailing luger's "bionic forearm"
Pro-wrestling NES
WWF Wrestlefest Arcade
Fire Pro Wrestling D
To some degree the smackdown series

that's all I can think of on the spot

What does everyone think of the NES WWF titles HAHAHA *poop*

PRO WRESTLING is good but TECMO WORLD WRESTLING is better. Both really good wrestling games. I like the 16-bit Acclaim titles but at times the button mashing is no fun. N64 had the best in those WCW games, though.

For the old nes I love wrestlemania and for the snes wrestlemania and royal rumble.
As far as today's standards go I don't buy wrestling games as much as I used too. (They were my top genre for about 5-7 years straight) Anyways, today I won't buy a wrestling game unless it's made my THQ. I have wasted some much money back in the day when a new wreslting game was coming out, when I got home and played it it sucked. THQ has never done that to me, well yet, all their controls and pretty much everything about the game is smoother than the other games.

Epyx Championship Wrestling for the C64.

End of list.

Fire Pro D = best wrestling game I've ever played. Tons of US and foreign wrestlers from multiple federations, on point control, 8 man tag, exploding steel cages, lightbulb matches, UFC styled matches, and one of the best Create A Wrestler features, ever. Check it.

Ya, Firepro is the series for sure...

I also love it because you don't see any power meters. There's nothing that takes the fun out of wrestling more than power meters to me..

I sort of prefer Firepro Six Man Scramble, just because you can have 6 guys on a single Saturn without net play, and it is pretty close to the DC one anyway.

Great point about the energy meter -- or lack thereof. Makes you focus on your player and the breathing button almost dares to make wrestling --gasp!-- more realistic.

And let's not forget the all important CRITICAL!

Having Chyna CRITICAL me with a low blow was the lowpoint of my FPD career LOL

Before you check this out, I'll say that I highly disagree that Shaman is "Biff Wellington" :bullshit: ! Shaman is Mike Awesome as far as I'm concerned! The moves do not lie. Who the hell is Biff Wellington, anyway?

He's unlisted, but Dim Sum is Gedo if you ask me. I always thought of Powder Keg as that fat dude who does the dance like Powder Keg and then does a body smash at his oppenents in the corner. He comes to the ring with those two guys who are dressed the same. I think they're some kind of 3 man alliance, but I don't speak Japanese and I don't know the guy's name. I think the guy has some cape he wears to the ring, too. LOL I kind of thought of Paco Loco as that guy with the yellow hair from W*ING when the FMW vs. W*ING feud was on. He always wore that Top Dog clothing jersey. He was an up and comer at the same time as Kanemura and Masato Tanaka. Don't remember the guy's name, either.

Otherwise I agree completely with THIS!!! (http://www.geocities.com/stunning1_2000/worldtour/roster/)

That's just plain offensive. And ridiculous. You could probably name 10 games better than Bring The Pain.

PRO WRESTLING is good but TECMO WORLD WRESTLING is better.

True dat. Poor Tecmo World Wrestling wasn't played by anyone, but seemed like an evolution in wrestling games at the time. But Pro Wrestling had "Starman." That guy kicked ass.

I dont know about top ten of all time, But the new Westlemania 19 for gamecube has got some awesome 4 player action. The wrestling has cut scenses after a fancy move is preformed and it is shown in 3 different angles. Also, this game is very customizable. It allows you to change everything right down to the camera angles and fireworks explosions that are used in your lavish entrance video. The create-a-chatacter is well done as well. The real down side to this game is that the 1 player sucks donkey nuts. Its mostly composed of running around and beating up security guards and anyone else beefy thats standing around. Also, this game is really hard on your controllers. Jeez, My friends have friend 3 playing it, be they are WAY to into it. They even have a bealt the pass around depending on which one of them has the title. They log it history, have challenges, and all that jazz. Aside for the multiplayer, werestling 19 is a really solid titles. I liked it much better than smack down. Whats a wrestling game for only 2 players?

I need a wrestling game that's a good 1-player game since I have no friends (woe is me!) that are into video games...

The only wrestling game I own is Simpsons Wrestling. Ack. The only reason I still have it is for the sake of a collection. A piece of crap.

However, one of my friends has Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain for PS2, and it looks pretty good.

The only wrestling game I've played for the NES was Wrestlemania, that was fun.

Pro Wrestling was great. No power bars, no nothing. Just a timer and an alarm to let you know you've been beaten down. Tecmo World Wrestling was good but I think that also used a power bar which cheapened the whole thing IMO. As for Fire Pro Wrestling-never played it. I wanted to get it for Saturn (the 6 Man Scramble or whatever it's called) but the language barrier for CAW is really holding me back.

For 3D- the AKI WCW/WWF titles rock so much they "rawk". Yes they are slower but that's how wrestling is. The only"status" bar is your spirit meter. That's it. The other wrestling games on the PS1 seemed more like fighting games as they relied more on button mashing and quick moves as to the slower calculating approach the AKI games had.

I've yet to play a current gen wrestling game that was good. Raw 2 was piss poor and the latest Wrestlemania game had poor controls IMO. Then there was the game based on MUSCLE (or whatever)-bleh. And AKI did that one.

6 Man Scramble doesnt have a move preview like in Fire Pro D?

Oh, and how could I forget to mention Aki's Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 for the import 64? My second favorite grapplin game behind FPD.

I've not heard of All Star Dreamslam...would that be an import game? And if so (or even if not), what system would it be for?

For true wrestling experience, nothing beats the Fire Pro series...I like all the AKI wrestling games, but they do not come close to matching the depth of the Fire Pro Games at all... Don't worry about the language barrier, there are literally hundreds of sites devoted to the games and their translations. Fire Pro S is my favorite in the series, but if you have no friends (as you say) The Dreamcast version is everybit as good.

Unforuately, I only own one wrestling game and it's for the 7800
Title match pro wrestling.
it plays pretty good you only have 4 characters to choose from, but you can do tag teams or singles matches.
the one game I would like to get is mat mania for the 7800, saw it once but I did have achance to buy it.
