The first system I can remember playing was a Commodore 64, I think. It would have had to have been in '93 or '94. My family also had Atari 2600, Odyssey2, and NES.

The first system that was mine would have to be a Nintendo 64 in probably 2003 or 2004. Then after that, a PlayStation.

My first brand new system was a PS2 in late 2006, I believe.

Since, I have acquired many more systems.

My VERY first game console was, technically, a Game Boy Color, which I believe I got in either '99 or '00. My first game for it was Rocket Power: Gettin' Air, which is a horrible game, but I was obsessed with Rocket Power in those days.
My first what I consider true console was a Sega Genesis which, believe it or not, I bought at the Oshkosh Wisconsin Air Show in around '03.
They had a whole bunch of weird tents off away from the main stuff... one sold old games.

The VIC-20 eventually became mine after my brother got a C-64 (And his C64 eventually became mine after my brother got an Amiga).

Your bro has a good taste in computers!

I had a hand-me-down Atari 2600 when I was, like 3 (I still remember playing my then-13-year-old brother at Combat) and a Vic-20, but my first real console would be my Master System when I was 8. Some good memories right there. :)

I vaguely remember my parents having an Intellivision, but then our aquarium busted and ruined it. Then it would have to be the NES.

Mines was the SNES (the one that came bundled with Donkey Kong Country xD) on one late December of 1997. The moment the system was set up, me and my little brother were deciding which of the two games we should try out first (the choice was either Super Mario RPG or Donkey Kong Country) and we chose Super Mario RPG because it was in 3D. ;) We were disappointed that it was only a one player game but we took turns battling the enemy. I missed those days. ^-^

Mine was an Atari 2600 back in 1985. My dad bought it off the neighbor kid across the street who was selling it to buy a drum kit, if I recall.

I remember playing Donkey Kong and Adventure that night, and loving them.

The first console I personally bought was a brand new NES toploader in 1993.

My first console was an Atari 2600... it was between 1985 and 1988, then a Nintendo in either 1987 or 1989. The first console I bought was a Super Nintendo, and that was probaly 1994 or 1995, and the first brand new console I bought was a Wii 2 years ago followed by a 360 this year. (I ended up trading the Wii, Guitar Hero 3, Paper Mario and Twilight Princess for an xbox 360, xbox, and about 40 games and a year of LIVE that I never used because it was linked to my friends account).

Mine was Intellevision 2, with Lock'n chase and Burgertime. I had played apple computer games before that on big floppies.

My favorite was the NES though. We had bought the mega pack with the robot and Geromyte. Still have it, but lost the box... Keeping video game boxes seemed worthles at the moment. Now the Earthbound box is worth as much as the cartridge itself. lol

Ah, yes, the first game console. Games really had no priority in my family for many years. We had my father’s Pong system (an APF TV Fun) and eventually an Atari 7800 with two games. Later on, we purchased a Sega Master System from a garage sale with somewhere around 7 games. That was where most of my memories of classic gaming "back in the day" came from (outside of the Pac-Man and Popeye machines we had in the basement at one point). But, in 1991 (I think it was somewhere around then, may have been ‘92), I became caught up in the marketing craze of the Sega Genesis. I HAD to have one. My parents were building a spec home at the time, so I was put to work picking up nails, being paid a penny a nail with the money going towards a Genesis. LOL I’m pretty sure I didn’t find enough nails to cover the cost of the Genesis, but when Christmas rolled around that year, there was a brand new Genesis with its flashy colors, amazing sound, and Sonic the Hedgehog. I guess that was really the first console that I had the say in purchasing, but I still consider the Master System my first. I love that console and play it almost as regularly as the Genesis.

My 1st console was a Master System. It was before I got huge into Sega stuff, and now regret not caring if my parents got rid of it (we still had the box and all documents for it)

My first console was a Sega Dreamcast. I still remember saving for it and my parents surprising me with it after I got my report card. My poor Dreamcast broke my freshman year but I refuse to get rid of it.

had an atari but never really played it....I remember my dad broke a promise to me and he felt horrible afterwards, so the next day when he came home from work he had the action set NES under his arm! probably the best day of my life, for sure.

SUPER PONG in maybe 1975. I really liked it and to this day I think it is probably the nicest PONG system.

Then I was so excited when the 2600 came out back then I thought games like Slot Racers, Combat, Western Shooter and Night Driver were just the cat's meow. And then we got Asteroids, Space Invaders, ET, Pole Position and all the rest. Boy I was hooked!

Also Intellivision.

The first console in our house was an Atari 2600 that my father bought my Mom as an anniversary gift.

My brothers and I finally got a Sega Genesis model 1 as our first console. Then a model 2 Genesis and so on. We didn't have an NES or SNES until much later. We were pretty much Sega-only until after the Saturn. (Excluding Pokemon and the GameBoy).

So I guess you can say we missed out on a lot of other games, a neighbor had an NES and our dentist office had Super Mario World on the SNES, so it wasn't all that bad.

i would play on my uncles Atari 2600 1987-88
then he came home one day (keep in mind i was only 4 at the time and he was 17 so still at home kinda deal) with a brand new NES.
Plugged it in and we played that thing and i was like a kid who just walked into Disney world for the first time!

Sega Genesis, in 1998. I was 5. We got a Nintendo 64 not long after that, then a Play Station 1. I was hooked to the PlayStation for a long time, especially with Crash Bandicoot games such as 2, Warped, Crash Team Racing, and Crash Bash. Good times (:

I was in Japan at the time so it was the original red and white Famicom.

Thinking back, I find it VERY bizarre how the 2nd Player controller had a built in MIC. Truly ahead of its time, although I never remember any games making use of that feature, except for Doraemon.

My first console was a Sega Genesis Model 2, acquired in 2002 at, of all places, the Oshkosh Air Show.
They have some pretty crazy booths in the back.
Came with Sonic The Hedgehog 2 and Sonic 3D Blast. I still have it as my primary Genesis (the one I have hooked up all the time, and the one I use most peripherals with).

We had Pong in 1977 and the Atari 2600 in 1980. The first system I bought was the NES in 1989, then the Sega Genesis in 1989. By the time SNES was popular in the mid-90s, I didn't play video games and had sold them off.

I had been playing video games at friends houses for a long time but my parents never wanted to buy me a video game system. Finally they got me and my brother a Genesis model 1 for Christmas in 1992. It's still the best Christmas gift I've ever gotten. I still have that exact Genesis hooked up and I play it quite often.

NES, but not by much, as I got an Atari 2600 roughly a month later. Whenever I got tired of Dragon Warrior, I'd switch to the 2600 and fly a few missions in River Raid. Great way to deal with the stress of five-year-old life.

Me and my sisters always grew up with the Super Nintendo so I guess that was my first. I remember when I was about 5 years old watching them play Super Mario World and Donkey Kong Country 2 and 3.

Around 1997, I was in summer day care and I noticed everybody had Gameboys so I asked my mom for one and for my birthday the next year I ended up getting a red Gameboy Pocket with Pacman and Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. So I guess that would be considered my first system.

It's still the best Christmas gift I've ever gotten. I still have that exact Genesis hooked up and I play it quite often.

That's how it is with our Super Nintendo. My sisters all grew out of video games so I took it over and it's been hooked up in my room for years now. Just played some Yoshi's Island about an hour ago, too.

I was a very late bloomer. I got my first console on my 15th birthday. It was 1994 and the fateful glory was a model 2 Genesis with the Sonic 2 pack-in and a separately-purchased MK II. I've been hardcore for the Genesis ever since. :)

My own very first game console was another Famiclone my uncle gave me for birthday when I was 5 or 6.

My first console was a second-hand Sega Master System (mark/model 1) in 1991, at the age of 10. It had two built-in games (Hang-On and Safari Hunt, with the Light Phaser).

It also came with a separate game, Double Dragon.

My first game console - or at least the first game console in our household - was a Philips G7000 Videopac computer, outside of Europe known as a Magnavox Odyssey²

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/3b/Videopac-pete-screen-800px.jpg/220px-Videopac-pete-screen-800px.jpg

The hardwired joysticks were crap, and once they broke my father tossed the system out, so unfortunatey I don't own it any more... :(

/edit: It could have been the Schneider G7000 Variant as well, since that one was produced in Germany. I unfortunately don't know exactly any more (that thing was even older then me and got tossed out not long after we got our Commodore 64, so I was 3, 4 years tops at the time.

The first system I got to play at home was the NES, which was my sister's (I don't even remember her getting it, one of my earliest memories involves playing with a Mega Man 2 cartridge, not playing the game, but running around with the cart in hand). It's mine now but only on a technicality, she hasn't touched it in easily 20 years.

The first system that was mine was my SNES, which I got in the summer of 93 with the Super Mario World bundle and Super Mario Kart. I still have it, although the original controllers are long missing, and the case has some raised bits on the top where I put the screws back in the wrong place about 2 years ago, and it has finally started to lose the battle against the evil that is ultraviolet light. I can rebuild her, and she will always be mine.

The first console my family had was an NES, which my sisters and I got for christmas in 1987 with SMB/Duck Hunt, Bugs Bunny's Crazy Castle and The Adventures of Dino Riki.

The first one that was all mine was a Game Boy I got christmas of 93 or 94 (I don't remember which) along with Darkwing Duck, TaleSpin, Wario Land and Super Off Road. They must have stopped packing in Tetris by then because I remember getting that game seperately later.

Mom told me later that she originally got the games as a way of improving my hand-eye coordination (which I guess was important for an autistic kid). I don't know how much it helped, but I sure had a lot of fun.

The good old NES...That was my first too. I got it on my 4th birthday. Opening it up and playing Super Mario Bros would forever change me... It wasn't too long that I discovered Contra, Double Dragon, and Mega Man and it was all downhill from there. Not long after that, I got a Sega Genesis and the rest is nerd history.

I received an NES on Christmas when I was 4 in 1988 :) I didn't even know what video games were outside of the green Apple II screens at school. It was a nice surprise and I spent many days playing Super Mario Brothers with my dad....I will never forget how he would pull the couch up right to the TV and whenever he would make Mario jump...he'd jump out of his seat!

My first game console was the top loading NES, i don't remember how i actually came into posession, I think it might have been
a friend of my mother's. My favourite games for it were Mario Bros and Battletoads. I still own my top loader but i have only 3 carts for it a 3 in 1 with (SMB,Tetris and some soccer one). Flintstones and Battletoads. Most of my best memories were when i visited my uncle who had a Mega Drive and i'd play with him, mostly MK3. When he moved onto bigger and better things (PC gaming) he gave me his games and mega drive.

Deja Vu as I thought I posted something like this before, but at any rate the first system we had was Intellivision. I was very young and didn't really understand what it was, I just remember the dealer in Las Vegas Poker & Blackjack and then some memories of Bowling (still a GREAT classic bowling game). I always seemed to enjoy my neighbor's Atari 2600 more, but it wasn't until I got older that I really realized how great the ole INTV really was. I played a LOT of Burgertime, Utopia and Astrosmash.

I swear I had posted in the thread before but apparently not!

My first console was the Mattel Intellivision II that my parents got me from K-B Toys in 1983. It seems like it was around summer. I had a grand total of three games for it and all of them were "Space" something. (One of them was the one with the overlays that had "triforces" on them and made "fart noises" as the AVGN put it...)

Someone mentioned before that most people's first console was also their favorite. While I liked the Intellivision and I enjoy playing Intellivision Lives! on Gamecube, it is far from my favorite. My favorite console is actually the third (if you count the Commodore 64 as a video game console...I know that's all I played on it!) one I got: the Nintendo Entertainment System. It may not be the system I have the most games for, but it is the one I have the most love for.

My first system was an NES because someone in my house had it already. I remember playing Super Mario Bros and Duck Hunt. We also had Tetris, Double Dragon II and Super C, but I wasn't allowed to play the last two.

Later around 2002 I got an N64. I read in a catalog that it was $300, so me and my dad saved up the money, then bought it for $30 at a thrift store. Don't remember what games we bought for it originally, but it was so exciting to have it. Played a lot of Banjo and Mario 64. I played Banjo so much that I posted a glitch I found on Gamewinners when I was 5! Back then I was Mario 64 Man.
