Just wondering if it's worth donating to get those Saturn ISO's.

You can get ISOs from this site as well... but you've got to jump through a lot of hoops first. You've got to join both their forums and Metropoliglobal before you can access them.

Someone posted a bitchin' Saturn movie clip site on another section of the forum. I strongly recommend you check this one out:

elportal is a pain in the rear for me. I registered to their forum and to that metropoliglobal, and it still won't let me download.

Question. Do I have to mod my Saturn to play these ISOs?

You can either mod your Saturn or use the swap method. It's not that hard if you've got a Pro Action Replay... just put in the disc you want to play, then get to the screen which offers the option "Start Game Without Cheats". After you pick that option, you'll hear the CD lens move upward. At this point you need to quickly swap out the disc with an official Saturn disc. The lens reads the security code at the top of that disc, then moves back down to the center of the disc. After that, you take out the official disc and put the burned CD back in. Presto, your disc will boot.

The mod-chip is $17 shipped and it is the easiest mod-chip to install.
I would suggest buying a mod-chip because the swap method is very hard on the laser and motor and it's a pain in the butt. LOL

Wait, wait, where are you getting your chips? I ordered mine from Jandaman and it was ANYTHING but easy to install. The chip I had prior to that was solderless and a snap to put in, but it eventually burned out on me! Oh, woe is me.

Does anyone know where to get the solderless ones these days? I have a 1 wire one I tried to use for a friend, but I just plain suck at soldering to pins that are close together like that.

I get mine from jandaman also.
But there is a shortcut so you only have to hook-up the power wire and not the blue wire that goes to the 32 pin chip. :D
Just solder the blue wire back to the spot next to it on the chip and then make sure the 2nd spot on the bottom left is soldered together, as shown in the pic.
Then just hook up the red power wire .

I tried that. I tried EVERYTHING. Nothing worked. I did a little surfing around and discovered that Jandaman's mod chips don't seem to like working in later model Saturns, which use a 64-pin IC to control the CD drive.
Until someone offers a version 7.0 mod chip (which requires NO soldering and is sinfully easy to install), I'll stick with the swap method.

Hey, does anyone (or more accurately, NE1) know how to download Saturn games through IRC?

If you have a Model 1 Saturn the swap method is a breeze. It has an led that flashes and tells you when to swap discs. It also has a larger timeframe for which the game can be swapped after
the code is read.
Model 2 is a different story. I would suggest modding a Model 2 as it took the Model 1 to teach me how to swap on it. There is no led and the timeframe after the code is read is almost impossible. If you can get god like reflexes though it can be done. I can teach you the EXACT timeframe if you have this model, just ask.
One strange thing i've noticed with using a memory card on either though is that the boot procedure changes.
You have to go to the dashboard first with a regular game then put the cd-r in then the original then the cd-r before loading to make the memory card work. Another side affect i've had from this boot procedure is some sound is missing in some games and the game will boot back to the dashboard at times for no reason. No biggie for me though I just swap data between the Saturn and memory card when needed "which isn't much, mainly for Dragon Force".
One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that both models need toi be opened and have the cd door switch taped down so the Saturn can load games with the cd door open. This is simple, just unscrew the screws on the bottom of the Saturn, open it up, and look fora very recognizable switch and tape it down, it's way easy.
If you need any help with anything specific just ask, I or someone should help.
P.S. Thanks for the help with elportal ManekiNeko, but I figured out myself "no thanks to you" :P , well, actuallythanks for pointing that site out, it's quite nice. :D

You've got to pay to use that site, unfortunately. If it were free, I'd jump at the chance to download some of those games!
