If the arcade classic Zoo Keeper had been brought onto home consoles, which ones you think would have done the best job considering their limitations?

Coleco.

Funny, I never really thought about this before. This game never came home, did it? Not even on a compilation? C64 version?
Zookeeper has a lot of stuff moving around at once. I would agree with the Colecovision, but I can't think of a game on that system with a lot of stuff happening at once. I might go with the 5200 instead on that one, or maybe even NES.

I could see the NES pulling off the best port, maybe Coleco and the 5200 second. What about the 7800?

I prefer the Dreamcast version... :hmm:

Zoo Keeper is one of my favorite arcade titles. Gotta love the goofy "in-your-face" sound effects and innovative gameplay.
For some reason, I see the 5200 having the best home port. Probably because I think the 5200 would have the most accurate audio representation... not to mention the game already looks like something you'd find on the 5200 anyway.

I think the Atari 7800 would be up to the job. That Maria graphics chip was born for this sort of thing.

I'd love to see someone make a homebrew of Zoo Keeper now that I'm thinking about it.

Zoo Keeper was the first arcade game I trually loved. I stunk at it, but I could not get any better at it because the arcade pulled that machine only after a few weeks. If anyone does a homebrew of Zoo Keeper I would be first one in line to buy a copy.

Anytime I went to an arcade as a kid I had to play a round or to of Zoo Keeper myself.

The Snyder's grocery store near my house had two arcade games: Zoo Keeper, and Moon Patrol. Each week I would save up a few quarters, and on grocery night each week I'd get to play a few rounds of each.

MameOX on the Xbox plays an excellent game of Zookeeper. It gives you that "what if" tingly feeling :D Pretty cool for a nice portable console.
But yeah, I'd have LOVED to see a home version of Zookeeper. One of these days the 2600 proto is going to show up... and we'll all see how probably poopalicious it is LOL :P But hey, I'd just want to SEE it :D
As far as what console could make a good Zookeeper. Good question. With all the animals, it'd have to be scaled down somewhat. I guess the Colecovision? Or the 7800? I'll take anything. I'd just like to see a port :)

ColecoVision and C64 both could have done pretty decent versions of Zoo Keeper. This game has to be the best forgotten classic yet. I can't believe no one has tossed it into a compilation yet.

Coleco, 7800 and NES likely would do the best jobs and maybe evne push the Coleco and 7800's power! What company produced Zoo Keeper again?

Zookeeper was a Taito game. And yes, I'd say the 7800 and C64 were probably best suited for a conversion of it.

Zoo Keeper on a C64..intresting. There's never been a Taito compilation pak, has there?
