I had a doctor's appointment yesterday. I skipped out of work for an hour, and I noticed on the way back I pass like 4 pawn shops and 2 thrift stores in about a 5 mile stretch. Just to pass the time I swung into one of the thrift stores and found a SegaCD unit.
The SegaCD and Sega Genesis are still connected and were $13. Then I found a 6 button controller for .50, one that has a joystick on it for $3, and a power supply for $1. With tax, it was all just under $20.
I never owned a SegaCD before. I noticed that there are two spots for power supplies on the back -- do I need one plugged in to each spot? I have another Genesis that I can test out the video cable from.
I'm sure there's already a thread of "best SegaCD games" so I won't even ask about that.

Yup both the Genesis and the CD need a power cord plugged in.
Add a 32x and you will have loads of power cord fun as all three require a seperate AC to function!

Make sure you use a Sega power supply for the Sega CD. A Nintendo one blows a fuse (I learned this the hard way)
Snatcher is all you need, by the way. Secure a copy ASAP.

But be prepared to pay through the TEETH for it. That is ONE hard game to get in ANY condition. After several months I finally gave up and asked a friend to make me a copy just so I could play it.

Most of the good sega CD games are still pretty expensive (at least on ebay). I guess that's good news for reselling them but I just want to have them. Here in college town I don't have any local resources for games so the cheapest games from the top 20 I have are a copy of Sonic CD that was $8 and a copy of Vay that I got for $20. Both are complete. Here's hoping you have better luck than I've had.

Shining Force CD is indeed a pretty amazing game. Unfortunately there are more than a few duds on the system, as you are no doubt aware. Although in most cases they are still fun in an odd, brief, way. Hmm, this topic's reminded me that I've still got a small selection of games I'm yet to try. Best get to it.

Don't forget Heart Of The Alien. It contains Out Of This World and it's sequel Out Of This World II, which is only available on the SegaCD.
Great game but SO HARD!!!

Are the Genesis and the SegaCD power supply the same thing? I already had a Genesis with a power supply, so if they're the same it looks like I'll be able to hook this bad boy up. I'll try and get some pictures tonight.

As far as watts. I think they are the same, but my genesis plug won't fit in my Sega CD, the plug into the system itself is a different size. Your power supply may be different as I don't know what model Genesis or CD you are running. Mine or both 2s. Best bet, go buy a universal from Radio Shack. That way if you get the proper one later you can use the universal for something else. I run a lynx on one.

Scratch that. I have to different volatges. One is a 9 volt and the other a 10. Then 10 is plugged into my genny and the 9 is on the CD. I can give model numbers if you wish, but those are the power supplies the systems came with and as mentioned before, I can't accidentally switch them as one won't fit in the other.
