View Full Version : Presale/Preorder goodness?

Are there any presale bonus items that are too ood to be true?

Any we SHOULD have gone for or any we SHOULD know about in the near future?

For example, for Champions of Norrath, the presale got you a Babes of Norrath calendar, which I would really like to get. (I preordered, but only the first few preorder customers who show up in the first 24 hours can get the items, sometimes.)

In the past, I saw Spy Hunter 2 (all systems) had a set of commemorative walkie talkies. I didn't find out if that cost more.

Demo discs are neat collectible, but probably not as cool as a Sonic doll or something more tangible, IMHO.

Some of my favorites, from memory:

Maximo figure + cow-print boxers (with game tip on them!)

Lunar "nun-looking-thingie" boxing puppet

GTA 3 beanie

I have never preordered a game. I dont find it that appealing. There is not one game that I have to have on release day. I like to wait a few weeks and try it out first. Reviews mean nothing to me.

Some is memorabilia, some are pre-order goodies, some are store associate bonuses, etc. but here's what I've been keeping track of for the past few years:

http://www.vidgame.net/toys/swag1.htm

If any of the info is wrong, or someone has something to add, I'd be glad to hear it either here or PM. It should be updated in about 24 hours to add more stuff and fix the 8 or so broken links.

Didn't see the PS1 Arc the Lad Collection pocketwatch that comes in the nice metal case.

I believe I worked for the company that did the engraving on the Auto Modellista Keychain. I remember the A logo. 8-)

Don't bother preordering games, unless it's free (which is rare). Just make friends with the employees at Gamestop, EB, or whatever your local store is. I've got lots of free stuff from there cuz two of my friends work there. Shirts, Mousepads, that babes of Norath calendar, some other cool stuff. They usually have too much and just give it away.

There are two versions of the cow. The Save the Homeland one has a dark pink band around his neck. The A Wonderful Life cow has a light pink band around his neck.

Pryo: I don't know where you have been pre-ordering, as it doesn't cost anything. There's a "deposit" that goes towards the price of the game, but other than that, there is no cost.

Bonus Offer - Free stuffed cow when you preorder Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life! This stuffed cow keeps you company as you play Harvest Moon and never complains that you are spending too much time in front of the GameCube.

Holy crap, it's better than a girlfriend! </misogynist>

The best preorder I ever got was the free pac-man Vs. for GC. Okay not the best but close. One day i wandered into this store in Mpls, MN. It was somewhere close to St. Louis Park. I think. Man now the name is slipping me and taking me waaaay off track. ANyways I was wandering around the store and they had a sign for any two videogame t-shirts for like $ 10 bucks. So I find me a nice Metal Gear Solid T with Metal Grar Ray on the back and the logo on the front. Then I take the Ridge Racer Type4 with that hottie that was actually one of the programmers mapped onto the model. Super solid Day. I know I paid for two tee's that were free. But I still sport them both.

The only time I'll ever pre-order a game is if it comes with another game (i.e. - the Zelda: Wind Waker bonus disk). I've been burned by bad games too many times to be pre-ordering anything nowadays. Nintendo's just about the only company I'll trust to release games that are both fun and not buggy. Well - maybe them and Blizzard (and we'll have to see about Blizzard now that some of their star talent has left).

It has to be a hell of a bonus to get my preorder. I'm not broke by any means, but I'm not exactly tripping over bags of money, so I juist can't justify $50 for a game. If you wait just a few months they all hit $30 pretty quick. Between waiting for clearouts or used games 50% of the games I buy are $15 and under, and I've bought maybe 2 at $50 in the last couple of years. And yes, all of my used games are complete and in great shape. To me, buying one game for $50 mneas giving up 3 I could buy for the same cash, so it better be one HELL of a bonus!

As I've said in previous threads, I pre-order all the time. It's much easier to let someone else call me when the game finally comes in. :) If it has a bonus with it, so much the better. Best bonsus has been the watch that you got for pre-ordering Arc the Lad.

I really have never liked ANYTHING as a preorder bonus. But one thing I can remember is when you reserved Zelda:Ocarina of Time of the N64.
You got the GOLD cartridge, and that was more than AWESOME, so I really did like that.
I don't remember, because I didn't do it, if the only was to get Majora's Mask GOLD was to preorder too. It probably was.

they didn't even make gray versions of it. just gold with hologram label and gold without hologram label. you didn't have to preorder for the hologram label, but you had to buy it quickly after release. i bought it a few days after release and got it and my cousin bought it a few days after me and he was too late, he didn't get one of the collector's editions. also, i got a hologram label in the mail from walmart for free for being in some club.

Excellent pix and stuff by the way. Does make me wish I had a Babes calendar. I have something to add to your bits- Grand Theft Auto III Baseball Bat! Will send pix when it comes out of storage. Rather rare.

You all know that pre-orders are mostly free- that you can put money down, but it's credited towards the game or whatever you want if you don't buy the game. It's just like putting your name on a list and getting something for free.

We got a stuffed Mumbo-Jumbo for pre-ordering Banjo-Tooie way back in 199?.

The latest and only thing I've gotten since then was a Spy Hunter 2 motorcycle for pre-ordering "Midway Arcade Treasures". Only because I asked. The guy felt bad they didn't have anything official, so we went through all the stuff they had. That was the only one worth it. (At least it's related.. sorta.)

I'm just pissed there's nothing for Halo 2.

And what's with all the DOOM 3 things. Do we get those if we pre-order the Xbox version? Will there bee one?

Other than those, there's rarely ever any game I actually want that has a pre-order freebie.

Regarding the DOOM 3 preorders. What? No Xbox promo? Screw them.

I'd love a poster though, but I'd prefer the Pinky Demon but only if I can pre-order it at GameStop.

Seriously. Why can't I choose which figure to get rather than which store to go to? This is as bad as the three versions of SC2.

Guess I could go to all three. What would it be? $5 each store? ;)

The last thing I preordered was Crimson Skies. Came with a mini plane. woot.

I also had SvC on homecart preordered, and I immediately got a mini SvC poster, even though I later cancelled the homecart preorder. Actually for awhile all purchases at the neo store came with one of those SvC posters. I wish they woulda made one for SS5.
