Yeah, Hottopic has been making me angry with that though. They have all of these fools at my school wearing this stuff with absolutely no clue about the systems or games. "zelda is a cool game", "i like mario"... yeah well, good for you. My only point is that in my area it seems to only be bought as a "cool factor" rather than "hey, I remember this game *nostalgia*"

Eh, I don't mind. Let the kiddies propagate Nintendo.

Its trendy now, but they are walking billboards for Nintendo, which only helps get that name in the mind of these mostly braindead, tell me what to like kinda people. If they want to use old school stuff to market to today's kids, that is fine. Let the good name of Nintendo get stuck in their heads, and when it's time to buy a system, let them remember "how cool Zelda is".

And what happens when one of us here starts to wear this stuff, buy the car and other accessories? Is it so wrong then? You know, because we want to "support our hobby" or something.

Hey, I already do, an nothing has happened to me. ;)
I might get strange looks from people, but screw 'em.
My Mom bought me some cool schwag from there for Christmas. Pac-Man antenna topper = :rocker:

I never said that anyone and everyone who wears it acts that way. My point was: I find it annoying that people do these types of things and they havn't even played the games or don't really care, but just wear it because the store carries it. It puts an image of falseness all around it. Oh well, go ahead and flame away.

One of my favorite T shirts is one that says
"The Code: ^^vv<><>BA Start" Only a little cooler looking than <,>, etc.
Most people have no clue what it is, so only true gamers know it!
I get a lot of compliments on it...most people say "That's the Contra code!"
Like an asswipe, I say, "Close. It's the Konami code." Of course I thank them for noticing!

Yeah, I can't stand a vow never to weat these shirts because wearing them is like clumping yourself in with all the "punk" kids that wear them just because Hot Topic carries them.
Plus I hate Hot Topic, I hate that store with a passion. We have one opening here in the mall....I hope an electrical fire puts them out of buisness. Why? I just don't like the crap they sell. LOL

Hot Topic is getting rich by making the stuff that kids wear to be "different" the popular thing to do. Some of that stuff would be cool if somebody screened it themselves, but NOOOO. Kids buy the stuff and think "Yea this is cool, i'll get alot of attention for wearing this" and then the next day suddenly 200 kids at school who have never played an NES game suddenly "know their roots". Its ridiculous.

Yeah, people think that by wearing these there "different", but how different are you by wearing a mass produced tee shirt that is selling out all over the place? You may not be in with the current hip hop fad, but your still in a fad nonetheless.
And "know your roots" is an overused phrase that makes me sick to even hear any more. Anyone else feel this way?

My friend and I refer to Hot Topic as "The Ministry of Darkness." The one near me has run out of He-Man t-shirts and only has a few cool video game t-shirts left. I want one of the He-Man ones more than I do the video game ones, I have to say.

One time, when I used to work at McDonalds, some kid came in with a hot topic kung fu nes shirt. And I was like, "cool shirt, wehre did you get it?" And he said hot topic. And I asked if he liked the game. And he said "what game?" And Im like, "are you fucking joking?" And he asked if the shirt was for a game. So I jsut stopped talkin to him.

My wife got me the Nintndo Technical Support work shirt for xmas and my kids have a couple of the t-shirts and a game over work shirt.
And I'll tell you what, my kids know who Mega Man is and they adore Mario so they are representin' a true Nintendo fan. Yeah it's cool for them to wear this stuff too but at the same time they're not posers who don't know what the symbols and characters mean.
In fact you should have seen my 16 year old daughters face light up with joy when my wife and I gave her a purple GBC with Tetris DX on valentines day and my son has his GBA SP with him 24-7. They know! ;)

I wear the Mega Man shirt that Hot Topic sells, and I wear it with pride.
I bought a Mario shirt from there. Shrunk after I washed it a few times.
Exactly why I like them - the tighter, the better ;)

I don't know what's funnier here, the fact that the kid didn't know what it was on the shirt or the fact that you worked at McDonald's.
LOL
I'm sorry, I just had to say it!

That was a good story though....honestly, that's why the shirts tick me off. The people should atleast have a remote clue as to what they're wearing.

Stuff like people not knowing what they are wearing doesnt really piss me off. Who cares what they are wearing? To me its like when people jump on the bandwagon when a sports team is doing good. They snatch up all the clothing they can. You are tell me thatthe average 45 year old house wife knows what position and stats of their "favorite player"

Atleast they know 2 things. That it's a sport they're rooting for, and then i'm sure they know which sport. Some of these housewifes would probably impress you a little with their knowledge of football but I would atleast go as far as to say they know which side of the ball they're on and perhaps position. Anybody that knows anything beyond that is more than a sports fan. You start becoming your own little analyst after that point. Just my honest opinion though....

Its funny whenever i see someone wearing any videogame or (geek) shirt from hot topic. i quiz them about whats on their shirt and 90% of them are dumbfounded(stupid high schoolers).
hot topic fuels the poser culture. it always reminds me of the South Park goth episode where the one kid tells Stan "If you want to be a noncomformist you have to listen to the same music as us and dress like us".
Its ironic to define yourself while mindlessly buying into a corporation LOL

I agree with most of you guys, I also don't care too much for hot topic, or the kids that shop there and wear nostalgia related stuff because it's hip. what bothers me most though is that I also wear that sort of stuff, but I've been into video games, comics and 80's cartoons, since, well the 80's, and I haven't stopped supporting it. yeah it's cool now that you can walk into any pop store and see ghostbusters stuff (ghostbusters is my fav property from the 80's, I saw it in the theatre when I was 4), but at the same time I don't like being grouped in with all the posers everytime I wear a nostaliga t shirt. but I have found a cool remedy, I'm starting to make my own shirts, sure they're the same idea, but when you make it yourself it's just cool. plus for the price of one shirt at hot topic, you can go to staples and wal mart and buy a pack of iron on transfers and a few hanes t shirts, just as good, and way cooler :)

i remedy this in my own way be wearing preorder shirts, that look awesome(most of the time) and its hard to get your hands on a specific one if the games been out for a couple of months :D

Gah, Hot Topic now has their own knock off of the "I beat the 8 master robots" Mega Man shirt from Gamestop. it's black and minus the Capcom logos...
