Hey everyone!

Wanted to let everyone know that ECGX is still happening.

We have now nailed down the date, location, and price structure for tickets and tables. Here's the run down:

East Coast Gaming Expo
Saturday, September 11th, 2004
The Inn at Reading (http://www.innatreading.com)
Reading, Pennsylvania

Price for tickets: $0.00
Price for tables: $0.00
Price for pizza: $0.00
Price for beer: $0.00
Price for soda: $0.00

ECGX's first event is totally free! Come for a day full of video games and fun, on us!

A few tournaments and some door prizes will occur during the show, so be sure to bring your A game.

Tables are first come first served. We'll be taking table bookings and ticket "orders" on the website in the upcoming days. Keep an eye open at www.ecgx.com for when that will happen!

Wow - I have mixed reactions to this. That's some date on which to launch the event.

I wanted to attend the first iteration of the show, and depending on when Yom Kippur/Rosh Hashannah fall I'll be there. On the other hand, that's not the greatest date you could have picked, but you probably knew that already.

I'm assuming the Reading gave you guys a seriouos deal to hold an event that weekend.

Personally, I'm going to try and be there, and hopefully create some positive memories for the day.

Personally, I'm going to try and be there, and hopefully create some positive memories for the day.

That's what we were shooting for. People already have such bad memories of that day, we're trying to bring a little light back to September 11th.

Celebrate your freedom, play your favorite video games. Just look at Greece, banned all electronic games.

Heh, I never made that connection before. 8*)

Sama is actually Japanese, it can mean various things. The itteration of it that I'm using means "person of higher being." So Intv = Intellivision, Sama = God Intellivision God. 8*)

While it's a 7 hour drive...just might have to look into going. The price is right for sure.

And I'll be damned if I'm going to waste a Saturday sitting at home being sad just because of the date...

I thought PC was strictly Dave's gig. I suppose I must have met you then - I've been to every PC so far, and the first one was so small I assume I met everybody there.

You were a PhillyClassic Flounder???

I thought PC was strictly Dave's gig. I suppose I must have met you then - I've been to every PC so far, and the first one was so small I assume I met everybody there.

Yep, David and myself ran the show the first year. Then David, Marc Pallante, Jeff Fowljewski (I probably spelled that wrong, Jeff is the man behind adventurevision.com), and myself organized PC2. I had began organizing PC3 but David, Marc, and I didn't see eye to eye on some aspects of the show so I had dropped out of the scene. I hold no grudges with them.

A lot of people were turned off by the stunt that PhillyClassic had pulled in the beginning of organizing this year's event (website "hacking", Game Jam, etc...), and overall weren't thrilled with PhillyClassic 4, so I set out to start up another show in the direction that PhillyClassic should have went in.

Adam Harvey (buyatari) and myself had originally slated ECGX to occur Feb 14th and 15th of this year, but we set our bar a little too high too soon. While we could have held the show on that date, we had very little planned in the extravagant events and guests section and we didn't expect a turnout to cover 75% of our cost, so we had to postpone.

We've restructured and have decided to do a more intimate one day gathering up here in Reading, PA. While we're still planning, we'd like to do a smaller free show up in Reading and one bigger show in Philly every year. (we had actually planned to do two small free shows this year, one in June and one in September, but the hotel couldn't offer us a Saturday in June) The big show won't occur tho' if we don't get a nice turn out at the free show. 8*) So make sure you support the event!

Also, I've thrown a couple of pics of myself up on my website. Check 'em out at http://toomanygames.com/images/chuck/1.jpg through 6.jpg

I think its great that you guys are having a smaller free show and I understand your reasoning, but I kinda feel bad about not having to pay anything. I'm sure you would get the same amount of people if you charged like $5 or something. Maybe you can have a donations area or something. I'm sure enough people would throw in a little money.

And I am also not so enthused about PC after what happened around here, but I still might check it out. Its great to know that there will be more than one option in this area. Keep up the good work and I'm looking forward to September.

Hey everyone! As I stated in a previous post, the website is now up and current with all the info on the convention.

We ask that anyone planning to attend the East Coast Gaming Expo (http://www.ecgx.com) please "purchase" their tickets as soon as possible. We need to get a feel of how many people will be attending our first show. I say "purchase" because, if you don't already know, THE SHOW IS TOTALLY AND ABSOLUTELY FREE! That's right, come on over to ECGX, the entertainment is all on us!

Remember, to ensure you get tablespace, book it early, it's first come first served and we already have 10 tables booked!

Saturday the Eleventh of September, 2004
The Inn at Reading - Reading, Pennsylvania
Celebrating video games from Adventure to Zookeeper and back again!

Greetings from the crew of ECGE!

We have some good news and some bad news to bring to you...

The GOOD news is that response for the show has been WONDERFUL! Day after day we get orders for tickets and tables for the show, people thanking us for running a gaming convention, showing their appreciation of us supporting our hobby! We're glad everyone's so excited about our upcoming FREE show! We hope response is this good next year when we hope to do a bigger and better show! Keep booking those FREE tickets for this year's show!

Now, we did mention some bad news. Seems that response was greater than we originally anticipated and we've run out of tables! We apologize to everyone who had wanted to get tables, demand just far exceeded what our space supply was! Be sure to keep our official website, www.ecgx.com bookmarked and check back regularly! News updates for the show will be posted there first, and as always we'll keep everyone on our mailing list up to date on all the latest developments on the show! If you're interested in booking a table yet, please contact us! We'll keep your name in our list in case someone decides to back out of their table!

Be sure to tell all your friends, co-workers, family members, and strangers you meet in your favorite game stores to come to the East Coast Gaming Expo! It's a TOTALLY FREE day of video gaming! The bill and the entertainment's on us!

Game On!

I just wanted to let evryone know that I've reserved a table and can't wait for the show. I'll be bringing:

Neo Geo MVS setup + games
VCS POP unit
Plenty of prototypes to show/trade
Lots of other stuff you don't see everyday

If anyone wants to set up any trades before the show, let me know. Can't wait to see everyone there. I don't get to the East very often. Should be an awsome time! If anyone from anywhere near Cincy wants to carpool, drop me a PM. You may not have much room for comfort though. ;) I usually go all out for classic gaming events!

You asked for it - you got it!

We have secured an additional *2,100* square feet at the Inn at Reading. Bringing the total amount of convention space to 4,640 sqft!

What does this mean? It means that we have more room for TABLES! If anyone is interested in booking tables yet, by all means, please contact us. We currently have space for 30 more tables, so if you want to book a table or two, please make sure you contact us as soon as possible so they don't run out again!

We have made some additions to the Events section of the official ECGE website. Check out the info for the Pac-Man Musical Chairs Challenge and the Puzzle Bobble tournament!

Have any suggestions for the show? Want to openly discuss the event with other attendees? Be sure to sign up for our Discussion Forums! Just click on the Forums button on the left side of the webpage and talk away!

Even with the almost doubled floor space the show is STILL FREE! Free tables, free entrance, free food, free drinks, free parking! :)

We've also booked a block of room at the Inn at Reading for anyone who will be spending the night. 10 rooms are reserved at a special $89 price tag, $10 less than the usual rate. You have to mention that you'll be attending the East Coast Gaming Expo to get the discount.

We're looking forward to seeing everyone's smiling faces at the show! Game on!

I love you all. :D

I actually managed to get my ass to the Reading Inn and have a kickass time. Granted, I didn't do as much as I could, and if I had my own car, I'd probably stay there until I was told to leave, but it was excellent nonetheless. I thought I'd never get to play on a VIC-20, Atari 7800, or an Amiga, and I even snagged a couple of games in the process.

Everyone there seemed like a nice guy and a huge gaming enthusiast. I never imagined that I'd win a T-shirt, though! Chuck was right, that question about the Flood from Halo was easy. ^_^

Heh, wish I could have challenged some of the gamers to Hyper Street Fighter 2 Turbo, but my time was kinda short. Aw well. Hopefully, there will be more events such as these that aren't much farther than an hour from my home.

A certain DP member did give me some advice about hosting a gathering at my own house... now that I'll definitely consider. I'm more of a party crasher than organizer, but we'll see what happens in the next few years.

All in all, I had oodles of fun, wish I could have been there longer, but whaddya gonna do, eh? As I type this, the EGCX has three and a half hours to go. Anyone who is still there, I say... GAME... ON. :)

P.S.:... Tim, let me know if you ever sell that damned "loud" Mario pinball machine. ;)

Any other eyewitness reports/photos from ECGX? I've been hoping for word of a kick-ass crowd turning out for this one. :)

i was there for the first couple hours.....doors opened at 10, but at 930 i was inside as were a bunch of other people...by 10 it was really crowded and there was a pretty good bit of stuff to look at

i feel like a complete moron though....flintstones for the NES (the rare one) was there complete in box and i had it in my hands for $20, but i didn't know if it was the rare one or the more common one....i put it down...went to get my DP guide, came back, and it was gone....oh well....(feel free to make fun of me know, i lost a great find)

other than that, the show was pretty good....i got a few long box psx games and 4 more odyssey 2 games for my collection

it is def. somewhere that i would go back to again next year if they had it again

Took a few pictures at the show in case anyone is interested...

I always plan on taking loads of pictures... but then the shows really kick in and before you know it... they are over. :(

At any rate, great work Chuck and crew and I look forward to the next show.

And I agree... much like PhillyClassic2 and to a certain extent PhillyClassic3. Just so you know, PC2 has been my favorite show so far... I know it was crowded but it just had the perfect atmosphere, imho.

Again, nice show guys.

WOW whata a weekend. On behalf of ECGX I wanted to say thanks to everyone who took a chance on a first year show. It certainlly paid off. I'm still in the state of recovery.

In the eyes of the promoters and the vendors I spoke with the event was a complete sucess. We are currently looking at a spring show for 2005. Once we nail down a date and location we will be sure to email everyone on the guest list. So if you aren't already on the mailing list or didn't make it this year be sure to stop on over at www.ecgx.com and give us your info so we can keep you the loop.
