View Full Version : E-Reader question

I am now starting to think of picking one of these up. Some of those "early NES games on a card" games/cards/packs are quite cheap at some stores. I saw "Tennis" for less than a dollar. I am also aware of the SMB3 "bonus" stages cards. I think I am going to cave and buy this (unlike the camera and printer gimmicks, which I did not buy). Question though, is this still sold separately? I am seeing a GBA/E-Reader+game bundle pack for around $60...however I already have a GBA..that's the problem. LOL

Yeah, they still them seperately. I bought mine at GameStop about 2-3 months ago, and it just came with Donkey Kong Jr. (or it might have been the original DK :o ).

It's a good little product, however Nintendo needs to step up in their efforts to support it. I would like to see some more original games programmed for it (like Air Hockey).

Yup they are defintely sold separately also.

Thanks. I remember these being sold separately, but I wasn't sure if they are STILL sold separetely. Hopefully so. I'll check next time I go shopping for games.

Still waiting for NOE to actually get their asses into gear and release this thing here in the UK but then seeing as they boned us out of Animal Crossing already it's seeming less and less likely to see the light of day }:(

Game and Watch Ecards are due soon. Series 1 should be out March or April. There was a preview in Nintendo Power Dec 2003 issue.

I'd love to see more e-Reader games. I've got just about every NES port for it as well as Series 1 and 2 of the SMB3 cards. I've also got a few for Animal Crossing. What I'd really like to see would be multiplayer e-Reader games, some original titles with an old school feel, and maybe even a few more ports. I think that it would be fantastic if some 3rd party publishers would take a chance on it with some old school games.

Of course, most places are dumping their e-Reader card inventory so it's not looking good at the moment.

I've seen this bundle for $40. So... You might want to consider the bundle.

You might want to grab up that bundle soon though, I don't know if it was holiday-only or what, but they're Circuit City is discontinuing them (anything marked with .96 at the end of the price at CC is clearance/discontinued), and I'd imagine many other retailers are doing the same.

The Manimal

I did not know this .96 bit. Thanks! I already have a GBA (Indigo) and I didn't really want another (if so, it would be White or Black), but if the price is right, might as well try and do one of those "afterburners" to one LOL

I'll check the C.C. prices tomorrow.

Not every Circuit City has this sale. I heard about it from a friend. Ive already tried 2 stores and couldnt find any such sale.

The game cards for the NES are out there, and ive seen them ranging from the 4.99 to a buck, depending on the pack and where it is.

There are a total of 13 released NES games so far.
4 series of AC cards totaling well over 300 cards in the entire series... Some of these cards are nearly impossible to get, Ive dumped a gaggle of money into them and i still dont have any complete series yet (6 cards away from Series 1, 12 from series 2, the spread in 3 and 4 were so bad that i gave up completely)
2 SMB3 series ([series 1 and 2] though im not sure if there is any variation in the Series 1 packs, like if when you buy 2 packs of series 1 the same 8 cards are in all packs, because when i bought a pack of Series 1 and 2 the cards just went in sequental order for the different card types.)
2 Pokemon Battle packs. And the last few Pokemon CCG expansions have been e-capable (they incorporate the character evolutions into a dumb mini-games.)
There are also a buncha random promo e-Reader cards that are out there.

If you can find the bundle for 40 snatch it up, so when you play Final Fantasy:CC you'll have an extra GBA just in case a friend needs to play....

13 NES games?

Me thinks I missed some. Can anyone post a complete list?

Mayhem

Balloon Fight
Baseball
Clu Clu Land
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong Jr
Donkey Kong 3
Excitebike
Golf
Ice Climbers
Mario Bros
Pinball
Tennis
Urban Champion

As for the Animal Crossing cards, I got smart and just bought complete sets off eBay for less than it would cost to buy them in packets...

PapaStu

Yeah ive dumped waaaaaaaaaay to much into those damn cards.... last count was something like a total of 150 ish packs for all 4 series.... But the rare spread has been some of the worse ive ever seen in a card series.

Mayhem: how much did you spend on the complete sets?

What ive been looking for are the various promo e-Reader cards.... and some sort of list of those.

Mayhem

Not sure actually... I'd probably say I spent about $500 between the four sets of AC cards.

As for promos, here's what I have off the top of my head:

All the ones that came with the e-Reader
Link AC design (Nintendo Power)
Air Hockey
Fox Box Kirby Slide (I have a spare of this if you need it)

There is a fan site out there with everything e-Reader related on it...

Close.

Threre are 13 NES thet Nintendo admits to, but there seems to be a set missing in the numbering system.

The 2 SMB3-e have different cards than each other, but have the same cards per set. There are 2 cards that came bundled with the game and 7 for an exclusive Walmart bundle.

There are 3 Pokemon Battle sets. Iron Defense, Freezing Ray, and Hidden Ruins. There are also one card bundled in Sapphire/Ruby....a differetnt card for either game.

Also the new Pokemon cards are e-Reader compatible. Some just have info on them, others have mini-games.

Mario Party-e isn't really an e-Reader game, but there are a few cards in there that have Mario Party Style mini games.

And lots of Animal Crossing cards. If anybody has any duplicates, let me know. I probably need them :)

Must find the Wal*Mart bundle now.... Grrrrrrrr.

I totally forgot about the Mario Party Cards (which i have, and your absolutely correct about).

I have only seen 2 of the PokeBattle sets, intriging, i must look some more now.

Well Nintendo did mess up the numbering system in AC and they went to press with them, so im not surprised that they messed up the Ninetndo Classic Games Numbering. But i didnt realise that those had numbers on them.
In AC they messed up the Sibling card numbers. Numbering first as G-1 (for Copper & Booker) then numbered all the other Sibling cards B-1 through B-4. They also messed up the sequencing in the Game Cards, that have Boy 1-8 and Girl 1-8.

In regards to the promo's

The Link AC Design? Is this the Same as "Hero's Tunic"(this is a design for Link's outfit) numbered D7 in the AC Series?

Also there was a Manhole card that comes in the Promo Pack that is only obtainable through buying the e-Reader itself.

Sisko: Ive got a gaggle of extra cards...

I purposefully went for the Walmart version of SMB3 to get the exclusive cards. Someone actually sold that plus the two expansion packs for $25 on eBay so I couldn't really turn it down ;)

The Link design is NES Link holding a Triforce piece up. It was given away on the front of Nintendo Power... erm I think the Dec 2002 issue. That was the only place to find it, bar eBay now. I can scan that for you tonight.

Yeah Dec 2002 was the Link card. (If anybody reading this has one....shoot me a PM please :) )

You might wanna go for the bundle actually. Since for GBA games that have cards as well, you need two GBA's anyway. And at $70, it's a steal.

Yeah, I'll probably buy the bundle...though I wish it were with an SP instead, since I would then have a GBA and a GBA SP. One of each...

One of each...Well, with the $40 you save by buying the bundle, sell the GBA and use that to put towards another SP. If I had the bundle, I'd probably use it just as an eReader system. For those games that require a second GBA.

Does anybody know of any e-Reader-dedicated web sites out there? I remember that back when I was trying to complete my Animal Crossing collection**, there was a Pixelboy site which is now defunct. He listed all sorts of info, like what each card did, what promos were available, all sorts of stuff.

Do they not sell the Pokemon Battle cards for Ruby Sapphire any more (edit: never mind; found them on Gamestop.com)? Are there any rare Pokemon cards besides the Eon Ticket (which I got in NP Magazine)?

**which I have completed, BTW - so if you need cards, please PM me or look at my inventory on Animalcrossingcommunity.com...but no, no extra Mario Bros. or Link - just buy the backordered issue, if it's still available. I don't think I have any extra "islander" cards from series 1, either.

SOMETHING TO CONSIDER.

I'm not sure about this, but I can't scan Animal Crossing cards on the SP. I have to use the original Gameboy Advance. Am I doing something wrong cause i've tried and tried, but I can't use the SP to scan data into the game.

If this is the case then you need both types of Gameboys to get the most out of the eReader anyway, or I could just be doing something wrong. Am I?

When the e-reader first came out a couple years ago, that's exactly what I thought of! (The whole gb camera - printer gimic) So really could gave a shit about the stuff.
But then about 2 months ago I for some reason bought a new e-reader and my card game count is up to 10 and i have the mario party pack too.
I just for some reason ignored this because I thought is was another gimic, but until I really realized they were for old classic NES games. I love the thing now!!

Not sure if I replied to this recently, but I did buy the bundle package a little while back and I have all of the CLASSIC NES SERIES e-cards. Don't have the Mario Party, I will have to pick that up sometime.

And as far as the GB Camera/Printer goes, I bought that last month after reading a thread here about how fun it is. For $8 or so I paid for both, it is indeed fun to play with. I got more than a few hours of fun out of it, and $8 for a few hours of fun is not bad. I'd probably pay more riding a go-cart for 20 minutes.

@calthear - Pixelboy shut his site down over a month ago. I backed up Pixelboy's site (minus images) to my HD. Shoot me your email and I'll send it to you.

@Marty - you sure can use your SP to scan your cards (I do). You have to plug the GBA/GCN cable into the GBA/SP itself, since the port on the eReader is just a pass-through.
