I have a regular GBA and there are times I can't see the screen, even with my Floodlight (accessory that flood flourescent light down on the screen). I've been debating if I should go with this thing called the Halo light. You basically remove the clear screen on the GBA itself and the replace it with the LED light ringed screen. It gets its power from a plug-in that goes into your GBA's cable port.

Does anyone have one of these and if so how do you like it? Basically it's either this (which is about $30) or a GB player so I'm kinda in a quandry.

Why not just go all out and get a SP?

for $10 at Gamestop it's easier and cheaper than an afterburner kit. I like it myself.

I don't know if I got a bad one or what.

But the one I put on was so washed out looking I couldn't stand it and took it back off.

I even bought some Afterburner AR film and put it on the GBA screen and it didn't help.

And do a Google search. They all say the same thing . "A total waste of money, get the GBA SP or an Afterburner "

So I'm guessing they all do this and not just the Halo I got.

Simple: the SP is damned uncomfortable for me. The triggers feel chinsy, the buttons themselves don't seem to be as responsive as I'd like. Because it is so portable my hands tend to cramp faster than the standard GBA with extended use. I also tend to wear headphones when I play and the lack of a head phone jack on the SP doesn't sit well.

On a monetary level, it's cheaper for me to get say either the Afterburner (which I'm kinda against as I never soldered anything in my life that I can recall) or this Halo light than an SP as I bought the GBA/e-Reader bundle.

@AdamG:can you hook up the e-Reader to it? I'm gathering not.

@jonjandran: I know there are two versions. The newer one is a more complete kit and works "better", from what I've read. I googled and couldn't find much of anything on the new Halo model.

Thanks to all who have responded thus far!

The e-Reader works fine with a GBA, GBA-SP, and Game Boy Player (although you can't unplug the e-Reader from a Game Boy Player and continue to play whatever game). You can't quite close the lid on the SP when the e-Reader is plugged into it either.

The most comfortable way for me to play GBA games is with a Game Boy Player and a GBA-GCN link cable to my regular GBA. It might be a bit excessive but it sure does the job.
