I'm talking about everything you see 3rd party, like the several hundered odd quickshot controllers for SNES/Genesis, and the tons of other 3rd party controllers. Basically, if it's there, you buy it.
Personally, I don't, I will pick up a Power Glove or something like that 3rd party...but I normally don't worry about all the other 3rd party accessories unless it's something really popular or something I remember from Childhood. (Power Glove, Game Genie, Action Replay, Konami Laser Scope, U-Force). But when you get into all the controllers made for SNES, and then on up to Playstation where theres SOOO many shitty controllers and accessories it's hard to keep tract of them all. So for the most part I just don't worry about them.
How about every one else here?

I don't collect them per se, but I will buy cool looking, cheap ones, like my Laserscope. Most of them have no collecting value to me, though.

Normaly i hate that 3rd party crap, it looks cheap and mostly it isn't as good as the original. I only get 3rd party when it's official licensed (like the SNES Advantage by ASCII or the Hori Pad), but all those el cheapo PSX controllers ... they are useless to me.
I make exceptions, for my Megadrive i have some Rhino 6 button pads, only cost me € 1,- and they fit much better in my hands than that 3 button batwing by Sega.

Yeah, that thing is pretty awesome looking. Too bad I don't like Soul Calibur that much, heh heh.
There's always instances where a third party releases something that isn't normally on the system (i.e. the Steel Battalion joystick) that's worth getting, but most all of the third party replacements for the original items are junk in my (admittedly Mad Catz tainted) experience.

Having learned from experience, I no longer purchase 3rd party peripherals with the intent of using them. The only exception that comes to mind would be a cheating/hacking device that isn't manufactured by the first party.

I only buy 3rd party stuff for NES. I'm just starting to actually search the stuff out now. Sometimes I'll pick up some random Genny or SNES item though.

I do, but man it is so hard to organize. I mainly buy 2600 controllers. Joe has a crazy controller collection. Some of his coolest are in Tips and Tricks this month.

i like to get the big solid arcade sticks for every system, some games just call for it. i've got this insane metal bodied top fighter stick for SNES, its one of my favorites. i also like to get a good driving controller for each system, gotta have the basics. controller collecting is fun because the prices always drop to almost nothing as soon as the next gen console comes out. i even have a few really stupid things like the genesis bat controller. i've also got a lot controllers for the pre-NES systems, back in that era third party controllers were often better than the ones that came with the console.
